SIX MEDF6RD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Quarterly Session Slated by Friends At Talent Church Representatives from Friends churches of the Saiem area and southern Oregon will convene for a quarterly business and in spirational sessions at the Talent Friends church, Saturday. Pre-juarterly meeting events will include a Christian Endeav or rally Friday at 7:45 p.m., at Medford Friends church for jun i o r , intermediate and senior Christian Endeavorers. Speech and scripture memory contests will be conducted, and awards given for attendance and proj ects completed. Each local CE society is to have a display. Ralph Cammack, ' Salem, will preside. Refresh ments will be served following the rally. On Friday at 7:45 p.m. at the Talent church, the quarterly meeting on ministry and over sight will convene, with Rev. Charlotte Macy, Scotts Mills, as clerk. Saturday's program at the Talent church will open with an inspirational hour at 10:30 a.m., at which Dr. Alvin Roberts, Cen tral Point, will speak, telling of his recent visit to Friends mis sions in Central and South Am erica. Clynton Crisman, pastor of the local church and quarterly meeting superintendent, will preside. Dinner will be served at noon by the host church, followed by a business session at 1:30 p.m, Clifton Ross, presiding clerk, Mrs. Homer Nordyke, recording clerk, and Mrs. Forrest Cam- mack, assistant clerk, are all of Salem. Sunday will be George Fox college day in the Friends churches of our area, with offer ings to be taken for the support of the college. The Rev. Richard M. Jones, pastor, will be narrator of a script written especially for the service. The choir will sing six num bers: "Hodie, Christus natus est," (Today Christ Is Born) by Healey Willan; "Children of the Heavenly Father," arranged by Myrick (a Swedish folk song); "Sun of Righteousness," by Healey Willan; "The Cherubic Hymn" by Tchaikovsky; "The Beautitudes," by L. Eastwood Baptist church is an American Baptist church cooper ating with the American Baptist convention. On Wednesday evening, May 16, members and friends of the church gathered for a family night dinner. The stress of the evening was upon 'Family Wor ship and the pastor- introduced devotional material recommend ed for worship in the home. The evening was closed by the film, "The Bible on the Table." Presbyterians List Program; Classes To Open The Sacrament of the Lord's supper will observed at both morning worship services of the First Presbyterian church Sun day. Dr. D. Kirkland West will speak on the theme, "Christian Fellowship." During the first service the high school Westminster choir will sing and Chancel choir will sing at the second service. Both choirs are under direction of Allan Lehl. During both services Mr. Lehl will sing a baritone solo, "Bread of Life." At 5: p.m. on Sunday, Dr. West will commence a new series of churchmanship classes. The clas ses will be held for five weeks. All persons interested in becom ing members of the Presbyterian church are invited to learn the nature of its beliefs on govern ment and history. The Senior Hi Westminster fellowship will have a discus sion, "How Young People Look at the Drinking Problem," which will be led by Deanna Bruning. Temple Baptists To Conduct Course Method courses in Baptist training union will be offered to all persons over nine years of age, who are interested, at Tem ple Baptist church, 794 Lozier lane, beginning next Monday. The classes will be conducted daily through Friday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The groups will be divided ac cording to ages, the boys and girls from 9 to 12 to be taught by Mrs. Carl Behler; 13 through 16 by Mrs. Martin Landers; 17 through 24 by Mrs. Floyd Yeats, and those above that age will be instructed by various persons. HENRIKSEN Prospect Speaker Evangelism Series Now In Process At Pines Chapel Prospect Chapel in the Pines congregation at Prospect began an evangelistic campaign last Wednesday evening to con clude on May 27. Speaker for the series is the Rev. G. W. Hen riksen of Portland, who is now serving in the field of full time evangelism in the Church of the Nazarene. He will speak each night ex cept Saturday . throughout the week May 20-27. Services will begin at 7:30 p.m., daily. The Rev. Gerald Gardner is pastor of the church. Missionary Couple Visit in Medford Dr. Kenneth Stark, returned missionary from South Africa and member of the local Church of the Nazarene, was ordained to the ministry during district as sembly sessions held in Portland last week. ' The Stark family is visiting relatives and vacationing for a few weeks in Medford before going oh their deputation sched ule,, which will take them throughout the United States and Canada during the next 12 months. ' Dr. Stark and his . wife have served for seven years as medi cal missionaries in South Africa. They are in charge of one of the denomination's hospitals on a mission station near Acornhoek. Talent Project To Open Sunday A concentrated four-months "talent project" is slated for the First Church of God, beginning Sunday, May 20, to close on Sept. 16. The aim is to increase the present new church building fund. In the worship service Sunday every member wishing to participate will receive a five dollar check from the church. They will invest this as a talent and present the results to the church in a building victory march in the church worship service on the closing date. Old Church Mortgage Released by Directors Garden- City, Kan. U.R A mortgage older than Finney county and almost as old as Gar den City has been released by directors of the First Methodist Church. The mortage goes back 73 years when the denomination's Board of Home Missions in Phila delphia furnished the Kansas pi oneers $250 to help erect a small frame church. ... The $250 is going back to the board to be ' used to help start some new church. Nazarenes Conduct Cottage Meetings ' In preparation for the com memoration of Pentecost Sun day, May 20, members of the First Church of the Nazarene, Kolly and First sts., have observ ed special sessions of prayer. Cottage prayer meetings will be held in five homes today at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 6 a.m., members will meet for prayer around the church altar. D. McAulay, di rector of the school of education at Southern Oregon college, has announced.
