LLl .1 Alpha Rho, Oregon chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, conferred honorary membership on Mrs. Henry Roe-Cloud of Portland during the annual convention in Medford last week end. Mrs. Roe-Cloud (at right) shown here with Mrs. Dorothy Elliott, Portland, the sorority's state president, was Oregon Mother and American Mother of the Year in 1950, Indian of the Year in 1951 and winner of the Indian Achievement Award in 1953, is project director of the American Indian Community Development of the Field Foundation. iL -J hi Mrs. Melissa Martin Dawes, Corvallis, a past state president of Alpha Rho state chapter. Delta Kappa Gamma, presided for the candle-lighting ceremony during the annual birthday luncheon of the sorority held Saturday noon. Mrs. Dawes is head of the. modern Idn guage department of Oregon State college. A bowl of the sorority's flower, the red rose, was framed in a setting of gold foil as part of the luncheon decorations. Serving as registrars for the recent convention here of the Oregon chapter. Blue Star Mothers, were Mrs. Helen Watson (at left), Medford, and Mrs. Charles B. Shirley, Grants Pass. Since Oregon has but eight chapters, the convention was small and the registrar's task was not difficult. MedfowwSTribune SUNDAY, MAY 6, 1956 Convention Time By Olive Starcher Spring and summer are favorite convention times, and two Oregon women's organizations recently held state conventions in Medford. Blue Star Mothers, an organization for mothers of men and women in the armed services, met here in the county court house auditorium, and Delta Kappa Gamma, national honorary sororjty for women in education,- held the state convention last week end at First Methodist church. Blue Star Mothers, organized to carry on a charitable and service program for those in the armed forces and for veterans, as yet has only a few chapters in Oregon but has many members in mid western and eastern states. Delta Kappa Gamma seeks to unite women of the education world, to honor outstanding women edu cators, to protect their professional interests, to sponsor and support desirable education legislation and to endow scholarships. Miss Whisenant is pictured here with Mrs. Othar Scott, Bend, state membership chairman for the sorority. She is a teacher of the sixth grade at Allen school in Bend. The next state convention will be held in La Grande, and a fall plan ning session will be held at Bend September 8. Aldrich, Pendleton (center),president of the East Oregonian Publishing company. Mrs. Aldrich, who has traveled abroad extensively in recent years, spoke on the topic "The Past Is a Prologue to the Future." She is an active member of lota chapter, Pendleton. (J Pp N"T-rNw , L wJ.. - ... - Dr. Jessie Brodie (center), Portland physician and state honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, was speaker for the birthday luncheon Saturday noon. Dr. Brodie, immediate past president of the Pan-American Medical Womens' alliance, told of a convention of the group which she attended last year in Chile and spoke of conditions for professional women in South America. Dr. Brodie is seated between Miss Mathilda Gilles, Salem, (at left) and Mrs. Kathryn Stancliffe, Phoenix teacher and retiring preiideM of Epsilon chapter, hostess group for the convention.
