Horses and Women For many years, Gertrude Lawrence was considered one of the world's best dressed women. So, if your loving wife aspires to achieve distinction as a wo man of fashion, she might be interested in Miss Lawrence's seven rules for a well dressed woman. 1 Simplicity is all important. Tailored clothes by day. Basic black gowns by night. 2 Buy hats for the head, not for laughs. 3 Colors according to the complexion. 4 Buy a few very good things rather than a lot of average things. 5 Sim ple shoes. 6 No buttons, bows or frills. 7 Good grooming al ways. Very little facial makeup. Small Business Ever consider going into busi ness for yourself in a small way? If so, a book you should find very interesting is the one titled "How to Run a Small Business" by J. K. Lasser. This book might also be very helpful to those who are currently struggling to make a small enterprise profit able. Marrying Man When the matrimonial career of that quaint character, Tommy Manville, comes up for discus sion, there is frequently some confusion and disagreement as to the names of the gentleman's wives and in what order they became Mrs. Manville. The first Mrs. Thomas Manville was Flor ence Huber. The marriage lasted 11 years. No. two was Lois Mc Coin. That lasted five years. No. thr.ee, Avonne Taylor, one year. No. four, Marcelle Edwards, four years. No. five, Bonita Edwards, 17 days. No. six, Wilhemina Boze, four months. No. seven, Sunny Ainsworth, two months. No. eight, Georgina Campbell, six and one-half years. Last named was only one of Manville mar riages that didn't end in divorce. Georgina was killed in an auto accident. The ninth Mrs. Man ville was Anita Rodd-Eden. That marriage lasted 27 days. Passing By Mrs. Harry James. Profes sionally known as Betty Grable. The wedding ceremonv of Bettv and Harry lasted five minutes. Their marriage has lasted 13 years and still appears to be a very happy arrangement. In cidentally, the record for brief wedding ceremonies is said to be seven seconds. On that, however, I have been unable to check. Don't see how it could be done.
