FOU3 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, April 22, 1956 V 1 MISS ELOISE MIELKE Eloise Mielke, Marvin Despain Engaged to Wed Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Mielke, 1700 Prune street, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Eloise Mielke, to Marvin R. Despain, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Despain, 1308 Hilton road. Both are students at Brigham Young university, Provo, Utah. The wedding has been set for early June and will take place in the Latter Day Saints temple at Salt Lake City, Utah. They will then return to Med ford and a reception is planned In their honor at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. 4 Sorority Plans Conning Events; Officers Elected Plans for the annual Mother's day meeting of Alpha Beta chap ter. Beta Sigma Phi sorority, were made at a meeting held April 12 at the home of Mrs. R. J. Higgins, Ideal court. Discussion of plans for in stallation for the new officers was also held. New officers rec ently elected are Mrs. Austin Murray, president; Mrs. L. K. Morris, first vice-president; Miss Joan Pence, second vice-president; Mrs. Herb Robbins, re cording secretary; Mrs. Paul Garren, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Fred L. Griffith, treasurer; Mrs. Iving Thompson, city coun cil representative and Miss Pence alternate council repre sentative. Mrs. Oris Goble gave the Cultural program. Posse Adds Two Princesses To Court for Annual Roundup Miss Juanita James of Med- ford and Miss Marcia Woodward of Butte Falls were selected this week as additions to the court to preside over Jackson County Mounted Sheriff's posse 14th annual Rogue River roundup. Glen Martin, chairman of the court committee, announced their selection Others of the court are Miss Verna Hickman, Eagle Point, queen; Mrs. Glenda Forman, senior princess; Mrs. Tessie Fish er and Miss Maxine Walsh, princesses. The young women were se lected on the basis of horseman' ship. Judges were Lee Pruitt, Grants Pass, Josephine County Mounted Sheriff's posseman; Phil Stansbury, Ashland, and Leonard Ward, Eagle m Point, president of the local posse. Others who participated in trials were Miss Ruth Fisher, Miss Jo Woody and Miss Rosa Layton, all of Medford; Miss Rita King, Rogue River; Miss Mitzy Baysinger, Jacksonville, and Miss Jean Estremado, Gold Hill. This week end the court will Couple Attends Family Reunion In Washington Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ryde, 24 Jeanette avenue, returned home Monday after a trip into north ern Washington to attend a fam ily reunion. The Rydes were ac companied north by Mrs. Win nie Taylor, Sacramento, Calif., Mrs. Ryde's sister, and in Walla Walla, Wash., they were joined by a third sister, Mrs. Jessie Hol- loway. The trio continued to Pull man, Wash., where they were guests of a fourth sister and her husband, Col. and Mrs. H. L. Cole. While there they celebrat ed the 8lst birthday anniversary of Mrs. Holloway, which took place April 10. It was the first time in 29 years that the sisters had been together. Their ages are from 64 to 81 years. Two brothers, Frank D. Con rad of Garden City, Kan., and Claude C. Conrad, Dodge City, Kan., were unable to attend the celebration in the west since the Frank Conrads were cele brating their golden wedding an niversary April 10. However, through the cooperation of the telephone company, the four sis ters and two brothers talked together during a "conference" call. After the birthday celebration the sisters and their husbands took a motor trip to Spokane and on to Calgary, Can. appear at Red Bluff, Calif., rodeo, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Martin. Their appearance there is a part of publicity plans made by Harold S. Hulse of the posse to announce the annual Rogue River roundup dates, which are August 10, 11 and 12. The local sheriffs posse grounds last Sunday was the scene of several activities. In the morning the first drill prac tice for the posse and Ladies Mounted troop drill team was conducted. That afternoon the Junior posse held their first drill team practice and at 1 p.m., a motorcycle club field day was conducted when the Rogue Ram blers participated with guests from clubs from Eureka, Calif., Roseburg, Klamath Falls, Can yonville, Myrtle Creek and Ash land. Ernest Holbrook was in charge of that program which had a large attendance. No admission was charged. Don Sample, Med ford, won the day's contest prize. Mrs. Clarence Dodge is drill instructor for the junior group and the juniors are to appear at the Montague, Calif., rodeo July 20 through 21. Bride-Elect Guest At Shower Party; Service in June Trail A linen shower given last week by Mrs. Ranald Axtell at Folding Hills ranch, Trail, Honored Mrs. Marjorie Hunt, 1006 East Jackson street, Med ford. Mrs. Hunt is the bride-elect of Robert L. Conger, Trail. Their wedding is set for June and they will make their home at Trail. At the afternoon event were Mrs. Lee Wilson, Mrs. Roy Vaughn, Mrs. George Tockstein, Mrs. Glen Anderson, Mrs. Aud rey Collier, Mrs. Harold Barber, Mrs. Carl Richardson, and Mrs. A. V. McKillop, a sister of the bridegroom-elect, all of Trail; Mrs. Laurence Conger, mother of the bridegroom-elect; Mrs. Kirt Langston, another sister of the bridegroom-elect; Mrs. Mable Hedgepeth; Mrs. Everett Shafer, also a sister, and Mrs. Ray Gillespie, all of Prospect; Mrs. Glen Nelson, Ashland, Mrs. R. Hiatt, and the honored guest, both of Medford. Games were played and re freshments served by the host ess. Couple Married In Church Rites Held Last Month An 8 o'clock evening cere mony March 28 at First Metho dist church wedded Miss Rae Lavonne McCurdy and Cappy Winston Mclntire. The bride groom, a Navy storekeeper first class, has left for his station at Pearl Harbor. The bride, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Drury R. McCurdy, 320 Clark street, is a telephone operator for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company, and is making her home with her par ents. In June the bridegroom will participate in the Dewline expedition in Alaska. He is a son of Mrs. Guy Mclntire, Cali fornia, and the late Mr. Mclntire. The Rev. J. Thomas Dixon read the double ring rites and about 50 guests attended the ceremony and the reception, al so held at the church. Mrs. Winston E. Meyers, Grants Pass, an aunt of the bridegroom was matron of hon or and Mr. Meyers was best man. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a satin bal lerina length gown and her el bow length veil was of tulle. She carried a bouquet of white gladiolus centered with pink rosebuds. Mrs. Meyers' gown was of blue net and her flowers were white gladiolus. Acacia and white stocks with daffodils decorated the church. The bride and bridegroom both attended Shasta Union High school and Junior college. The bride-elect is an Eagle Point high school student and will graduate in May. Her fiance is an employee of Laughlin Al loy Steel corporation at White City. Trinity circle will have charge of the salad luncheon which will be served. Mrs. Cook recently visited Presbyterians missions in the Bay area and she will tell par ticularly of Los Gatos home in the Santa Cruz mountains. She will show slides of the Ming Quong home at Oakland and explain work done among the Chinese people and other na tionalities. Grace circle is to give a skit about Cameron house and its founding in 1849 in Chinatown, San Francisco, and outline its early history. The group's "op portunity gift" is to be given to Cameron house. Mrs. Arnold Bohnert will give the devotions and music will be furnished by a high school trio, composed of Miss Janet Jami son, Miss Mira Frohnmayer and Miss Carol Denman. ! Olive Rebekah Lodge Holds Friendship Niqht Observance A style show of women's cloth ing of the early 1890s was one of the many features of a Friend ship night program held by Ol ive Rebekah lodge Monday even ing. Program numbers were furnished by various valley Re bekah lodges who were guests at a meeting, and Grants Pass Rebekahs gave the style show. Gold Hill, Rebekahs did a skit which represented Medford members en route to an earlier Friendship night observance at Gold Hill. Central Point members furn ished a reading. Gifts were exchanged be tween the visiting groups and the local lodge. Represented were lodges at Jacksonville, Central Point, Ash land and Grants Pass. Another Friendship observance will be held at Ashland, Tuesday 24 at 8 p.m., and all Rebekahs of the area are invited. Mrs. J. D. Brummond, noble grand, and her officers, present ed a program on the manner in which Rebekahs in Netherland conduct their lodge meetings and a notable difference was noted. The program was held in connection with International Understanding month, which is being observed during April, and sponsored through Mrs. Margaret Watt, president of the International Association of Re bekah Assemblies. Mrs. Byrl E. Drury, Coburg, past state president of the Ore gon assembly, is representative for the American Rebekah As sembly .She was given a vote of thanks at the recent meeting for an altar cover given to the local lodge. A report was made of a recent cake walk , by Mrs. Lee Garris. Mrs. P. M. Aldredge and her committee presented each visitor and local lodge member badges of pink and green. Refreshments were , served from tables decorated with spring flowers. To Install Installation ceremonies for the Crater Lake Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars and auxiliary, are set for Tuesday, April 24 at 8 p.m., in the VFW hall, at 42 North Front street. The joint meeting Is open to all veterans and their families. Bethel to Honor Late Mrs. Faber Tuesday Evening Central Point The Tate Mrs. Everett Faber will be honored with an addendum to be given during a meeting of Nevita chap ter, Order of Eastern Star, Tues day, April 24. The meeting will open at 8 p.m. in the Masonic temple. The addendum will be given by members of Bethel 38, Order of Job's Daughters. Mrs. Faber was a past matron of Nevita chapter, organized Bethel 38 and was to have been grand guard ian of Job's Daughters for Ore gon for the coming year. Mrs. Melvin McGrew, worthy matron, will preside.
