(International) National Guard Unit Holds Dinner Headquarters and Headquar ters company, first battalion, 186th infantry, Oregon National Guard held a company dinner at Medford hotel recently to cel ebrate a successful recruiting campaign. Approximately 85 persons at-H tended, including Mayor . Earl Miller of Medford; Lt. Col. Don ald H Burke, commanding offi cer of first battalion, 186th in fantry, Grants Pass; and Major Forrest D. Taft, unit advisor, Medford. Mayor Miller praised the Na tional Guard and stated that the Guard "is the bulwark of the home defense and that it is im portant for young men of today to prepare for the future through the Guard." Capt. Sebastiano J. Fagone, commanding officer of Head quarters and Headquarters company, reported on the week end firing held at the Camp White range recently. Of the 40 men who fired, 28 qualified with the MI rifle. Sev en qualified as experts with scores of 170 or better out of a possible 200. Experts included Dan and Bruce Kellington, Ray mond Cox, Eldon Francis, ' Jam es Meternich, George Perrard and Robert Guches. He said the "night problem" which took place hear the range was successful, with the men staying out overnight. Police Investigate 276 Cases in March A total of 276 offenses were reported to the city police- de partment during March, accord ing to the monthly report. Tl)ey included 55 "major offenses." Larcenjr-thefts under $50 led the list with 43 reported and 14 cleared. The remaining major cases involved six burglaries, three cleared; four larceny thefts S50 and over, three clear ed; one auto theft, not cleared; and one aggravated assault, cleared. Violations of traffic and mo tor vehicle laws totaled 121, not including 65 violations of road and driving laws and four driv ing while intoxicated.
