SHADY COVE-TRAIL PTA Planning Card Party Shady Cove-Trail The Shady Cove PTA will sponsor a card party, preceded by a salad luncheon, on Friday, April 6, starting at noon at the Shady Cove school gym. The event is open to anyone in the commu nity. Proceeds will go toward buying the gym curtains. Child care will be provided for 25 cents. A charge of 50 cents per person will be made for the luncheon. All types of card games will be played. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Schultz and Mrs. Amy Randle, Mediord, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Scottie Parrick of Trail Easter Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Mc Cready of Orinda, Calif., have been spending a week visiting with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McCready Jr. at California on the Rogue, Trail. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Goode and family of Shady Cove were guests for Easter dinner at the home of Goode's sister and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Bev ens of Prospect. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Porter ct Shady Cove went to Portland last week on a business trip. They were accompanied as far as Eugene by Mrs. Claude Hunt of Shady Cove who spent sever al days there visiting her brother-in-law and wife, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Hunt. Joan Houston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orage Houston of Shady Cove made a trip to Port land recently with friends, Clyde Pittinger and Karen Gold ing of Medford. Marilyn Jones of Central Point visited with her girl friend, Kathleen Houston,1 over her school vacation and attend school with Kathleen at Elk-Trail. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Paul son of Shady Cove were called to Sacramento, Calif., suddenly by the serious illness of Paul son's mother, Mrs. Willette Ryhl. Mrs. Paulson's mother, Mrs. Eva McGilvray, is looking after the Paulson children in their ab sence. Members of St. Martin's guild met at the home of Mrs. A. Myklebye Monday evening, April 2. There was a good turn out for this spring meeting, with three visitors present from St. Martha's guild at Prospect, Mrs. Marcus Dey, and Mrs. Leo Hoag and mother. Final plans were made for the variety show to be held on April 21 at the Shady Cove school gym. The members are going to considerable work to make the event a success. Mrs. Ralph Lane resigned her position as secretary and Mrs. Everard Brown was elected to fill the vacnncy. The Rev. Bob Greene, pastor of the Church of the Good Shepherd at Prospect was riresent. The next meeting of the guild will be held Monday evening. May 7, at the home of Mrs. Glenn Anderton, of Trail. Sharon Roberts, Joan Houston and Kathleen Houston of Trail were hostesses at a pre-Easter party for the teen-age Sunday school class of the Assembly of God church at their home on Friday, March 30. Games were played and refreshments served. Guests present were Diana Al len, Delberta Spain, Sue and Bill Harmon, Rodney Collins. Roger Russell, Eldon Elder, Dale Casey, Mrs. Ronald Curren and son, Ron Curren, Pat Goode, Su sie Chubb, Sharon O'Brien, Lar ry Powel, Matrial Andre and Linda Eccleston. Members of Our Lady of Fa tima club held a no-host lunch eon and meeting April 2 at the home of Mrs. Ernest Seggessen man of Shady Cove. Discussion was held and plans made for a Mother's day food sale and also for a spring style show to be held the latter part of April or first part of May. Also several of the members are planning individual projects. Members present were Mesdames Clar ence Meyer, Roy Anderson, Dick Bartuss, Fred Morgan, Harry Casebier, Arnold Winslow, Ole Hornseth and Ernest Segessen man. Sunday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Orage Houston of Trail were Mr. and Mrs. Homer Edgecomb of Susanville, Calif., Mrs. Emma Houston and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cornutt and fam ily of Kane's creek. Lake Counly Geyser Attracting Tourists Lakeview U.R) Lake coun ty is enjoying some unseason able tourist trade as word spreads of the county's second geyser. The newest erupts promptly each four hours and shoots a cloud of hot water and steam 35 feet into the air. The geyser was brought in when Charles Crump, who has a ranch in the Warner valley, was drilling for water. When he reached a depth of about 100 feet, hot water gushed from the hole. The other geyser in the coun ty also is man-made and is lo cated near Lakeview. The hot water is believed to originate in a branch of the Warner fault zone, one of a se ries of faults that lace Oregon, California and Nevada. fe.tMfife&afeayj -mi ii GREETING CHILDREN who gather on White House lawn for annual Easter Monday egg roll, President Eisen hower chats with awed youngster who hopes to fill bas ket with gaily colored goodies. (International Soundphoto) Italy Communists Split Oyer Stalin Rome (U.R) The Italian Com munist Party gave strong indi cations today it' was badly di vided over the move to discredit Josef Stalin and a new campaign to win Italy's local elections with "ballots instead of bombs." Delegates attending the sec ond session of the three-day con gress had visual proof the Ital ian Communists were having trouble swallowing the new Mos cow line degrading the late dic tator. A huge portrait of Stalin hung side by side in the meeting hall with those of the other Com munist "immortals" V. I. Len in, Karl Marx and Friedrich En gels. Modern - day Communist leaders of the Kremlin were not included. Stalin has long been a hero to many Italian workers, and the Russian debunking campaign has not been popular with Italy's 2,500,000 Communist Party mem bers. Thus far congress leaders have skipped around the Stalin issue. English Bride Withstands Torture Oundle, England U.R) Many brides are nervous. But not auburn-haired Margaret Collins. She stood calmly throughout the ceremony Tuesday as she married Patrick Cunningham. And all the time she could feel a bee crawling along beneath her bolero. The bee stung her near the end of the ceremony but she en dured the pain and carried on. But when the wedding was over she dashed from the church and to a drug store for treatment. Her husband ran aft er her. In the store he helped remove the lace-trimmed, tight-fitting bolero, and there was the bee and the swelling wound, Mrs. Cunningham dabbed on some medicine and left calmly for the reception. Carpenters' Strike Spreads To Julelake Klamath Falls (U.R) The carpenters' strike that tied up most major construction in Klamath Falls Monday, spread to Tulelake, Calif., yesterday and the number of men out rose to about 200. Members of the Building Trades council in Klamath Falls stayed off their jobs yesterday in sympathy with the striking carpenters. The carpenters are demanding a $3 an hour wage.
