Wayne Meets Philadelphia In NBA Finals By UNITED PRESS For a time, it seemed that neither of them would make it, but regular season winners Phil adelphia and Fort Wayne both were safely berthed today in the final round of the National Basketball Assn. playoffs. Each clinched its best-of-five semi-final series, 3-2, Thursday night on its home court Phila delphia by ousting defending play-off champion Syracuse, 109 104, and Fort Wayne by nipping St. Louis, 102-97. The two finalists, who fin ished on top of the Eastern and Western divisions, respectively, during the regular season, will clash in the first game of the best-of-seven final round at Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon. Coley has assisted with football and basketball and is head base ball coach. EPPERLE LOST Corvallis (U.R) Joe Epperle, letterman pitcher on the Oregon State baseball team, has been lost to the Beavers for the 1956 i season. Epperle is scholastically ineligible to compete this spring and has left for his home in Sac ramento, according to Coach Ralph Coleman. BURRIGHT TRANSFERS Corvallis (U.R) Jim Bur right, a speedy end, is the only football transfer to enroll at Oregon State for spring quarter, Coach Tommy Prothro said to day, Burright played two years at San Bernardino Valley Junior College. DAVIS CUP CAPTAIN William F. Talbert talks with newsmen in New York after being named for tiip fourth ear to captain the U. S-. avis Cup Team for 1956.
