I think usually what has happened to them is what I call a tiny stroke. A little blood vessel supplying a small part of the brain plug ged up, much as a small artery plugs up in a heart when a man has a coronary attack. Naturally, there is not much m the way of medicine that can be taken. The little area of brain has been Destroyed, and it will not grow again. Fortunately, in some cases after months, the sense of smell comes back Other parts of the brain "take over." In several cases I have seen, the sense of smell went because the man had a mild depression. In these cases, when the fellow became cheerful again, his sense of smell returned. People Who Think They Smell Bad I have seen a few maiden ladies who when they became slightly disturbed mentally, got the distressing idea that they smelled bad. Actually, no one could smell anything wrong about them. When I asked them where they got the idea that they smelled so bad, some said that when they went into a FORERUNNER The MX- 744, rocket predecessor of the Atlas intercontinental ballistics missile under de velopment at Convair divi sion of General Dynamics Corp. in San Diego, Calif., rises from ground at White Sands, N. Elmo Smith today answered censure action by the Oregon Typograph ical conference by explaining he inadvertently crossed a picket line while visiting offices of the Bend Bulletin Saturday. "I certainly was not aware of crossing a picket line when I stopped by the office of the Bend Bulletin Saturday," the governor said. "The picket was not in front of the Bulletin entrance at the time, and I did not realize until later that the newspaper was be ing picketed," Gov. Smith as serted. Picket Unobserved "The driver of my car said that the picket could not be im mediately observed when I got out of the car.
