Think not, the husband gained ' That all is done; The prize ot married happiness Must still be won, ' And, oft. the careless Find it to their cost The lover in the husband may be lost. Lyttleton. The Bible tells us that Joseph, before he called on Pharaoh, changed his raiment and shaved. But what did Joseph shave with? How many times over did he have to shave? Then consider the .case of Marc An- .tony. According to history Marc shaved 10 times over before he called on Cleopatra. This indi cates that Cleo was a girl really ODDOsed to that five o'clock shadow. What did Antony shave with? Can some recognized au thority on the history of shav ing give us the answers to these queries? Exciting Spinster Eartha Kitt, 27 - year - old throaty voiced chanteuse, is be ing referred to as "trie most ex citing spinster in the world." Her earnings average $4,000 per week less tax. Eartha recently observed, "There -is a beast, in side every man. When I sing I just bring it out in a lot of them This brings to mind that ditty titled "There's a Little Bit of Bad in Every Good Little Girl." I wonder what male vocal ist, if any, has a tendency, when singing to bring out the little bit of bad in the good little girls. I would like this information for our Horses and Women files. Briefly The life of a married career woman down in dear old Georgia can be very ' difficult at times In that .State a wife's salary legally belong to her husband . . When "first lady," Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt made many speeches, some were quite lengthy. However,, the longest speech her successor, Mrs. Harry Truman, made during her period as "first lady" was "Thank you for the orchids." Asking - v Queries from clients: Q. What kind of gambling game is the one known as "Stuss"? A. It is a variant of Faro Bank. Practical ly the same as Faro but slightly revised to make it easier to play. The house percentage is a little better for Stuss than for Faro. For further details, consult that highly interesting book titled "Scarne on Cards" by John Scarne . . . Q. A contestant on a television quiz program said the model for Leonardo Da Vinci's painting "Mona Lisa" was the wife of a resident of Florence, Italy. The quizmaster said the answer was wrong, that several models had posed for the paint ing. How about this? A. The model for the Mona Lisa was the wife of Francesco Del Gioconda of Florence. The smile of Mona Lisa is the most discussed fea ture of this painting. However, it has also been said the hands are the most beautiful ever painted. Young women aspiring to be "hanxl models" should take a long look at the hands of Mona Lisa. So They Say s r Men born under Virgo (Aug. 24-Sept. 23) do not view marriage romantically. They have to be sold on the idea they will benefit by. it. They must be thoroughly convinced that two can live more cheaply than one. Virgo men are usually most interested in a girl who has a good position and is willing to keep it after marry ing. Or, so say the stargazers. Love How does your dictionary de fine love? In checking over this, the following definition from Funk and Wagnall's New Collage Standard Dictionary appealed to me as being unusually well put: Love a strong complex emotion or feeling causing one to appre ciate, delight in and crave , the presence or possession - of an other and to please and promote the welfare of the other." Passing By Jim Parley. Distinguished New Yorker. A brilliant politician, an accomplished physiognomist and a very wise man of business. Jim is also a charter member of the association of former right hand ed first basemen. In his youth, Jim cleverly covered the initial sack for the Haversraw, N. Y., semi-professional team. In those days he was known as "Stretch" Farley. Mystery How Sophia : "The Sizzler" Loren, Italian Cinema Queen, retains her slender and well pro portioned figure is a mystery to ' those who have seen .her in ac tion at . luncheon or dinner. Sophia is definitely not on a diet. Recently in the dining car of a Rome to Venice train Sophia was seen consuming a luncheon consisting of spaghetti, beef steak, fried potatoes, ice cream, chocolate cake and mixed fruits.
