TEN MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Tuesday, February 14, 1956 Charles Stanley Eiecled President Of Stockmen Here Charles Stanley, Lake Creek rancher, was elected president of the Jackson County Stock men's association Monday at the annual meeting in the Central Point Grange. Warren Bayliss, Crater Lake highway, was named vice-president; County Agent W. B. Tuck er, secretary; and John A. Boh- nert, treasurer. Directors chosen are James C. Miller Jr., Ashland; Merton Bradshaw, Lake Creek; J. W, Bigham, Eagle Point; Ogden Kellogg, Rogue River area; Ern est Lathrop, Central Point; John Horner, Applegate; Alfred Peile, Sams Valley-Shady Cove;. Herb Carlton, Prospect; and Collier Buffington, Medford. Burdette Dodge was chosen flood representative. Speakers Listed Speakers at the meeting in cluded Dr. H. L. Dinesen, assist ant state veterinarian; Don Smith, manager of the Red Bluff, Calif., bull sale; Bruce Bolde now, 4-H scholarship winner to the range summer, school; and James Miller, retiring president. Mrs. Buffington was elected president of the association aux iliary, the Cow Belles, at an organizational meeting. Mrs. John Bohnert was elected vice president, and Mrs. Clayton Charley secretary-treasurer. Charter members also include Mrs. Gordon Stanley, Mrs. Mer ton Bradshaw, Mrs. A. A. Smith and Miss Marilyn Bohnert. The group plans to invite wives of association members to join . the Cow Belles, and to undertake the sale of beef cook ery books as the first project. Quake Rocks Tokyo Causing Minor Damage Tokyo U,R) The stiffest earthquake since World War II rocked this sprawling . city of 8,000,000 early today, injuring two Japanese and causing minor damage to buildings. The quake opened a one-inch crack between the main build ing of the "earthquake proof" Imperial hotel ' and a recently erected annex and buckled the sidewalk outside one of Tokyo's biggest office buildings: The tre mor also toppled several chim neys. Birthday, however, ' and all state offices were closed. Kaye Brothers Circus Schedules 78 Acts Here Kaye .Brothers circus will be at the Medford . Senior High school. Feb. 22. It will be spon sored by the Medford Active club and part of the proceeds will be used to purchase needed equipment for the Jackson County Disaster Car. The circus' will include 18 acts and will give two perform ances, one 'at 4 p.m. and the other at 8 p.m. Children's tickets will be sold to enable school children to attend and transpor tation will be furnished. Lignite is found in North Da kota, California, Arkansas, Mon tana, Texas and some parts of Washington state. - Flood Control Topic Set for OLBA Meeting Cooperation and support of other businesses and organiza tions seeking to secure flood con trol ?n the Rogue basin will be discussed by the Rogue chapter of the Oregon Licensed Bever age association tomorrow night. Association members, who will hold a dinner meeting in the Sequin club at Grants Pass, will hear a discussion of action needed to obtain flood control by men who have been active in that field. W. J. Sannes, state president of the OLBA, will speak to the group on plans of the state or ganization to provide aid for disaster-relief in stricken areas. A regular business meeting will be held following discussion of flood relief. Edward Dahack, chapter president, has urged all members be present. BAD PENNY . Beaver Dam, Wis. Portland Airport Allocation Approved Portland OJ.R) Official no tice of a $1,000,000 allocation for improvement of Portland In ternational airport was received yesterday from the Civil Aero nautics administration. John J. Winn Jr.-, manager of the Port of Portland, said the money with at least an equal amount appropriated, by the port must be under contract by June 30. Plans and specifications of the airport must be approved by the CAA before bids can be asked. Commissioners said this allo cation, combined with one they hope to receive next fiscal year, would enable construction of the new airport terminal as a unit instead of in separate projects. New Western Union Offices Hours Set New Sunday office hours, ef fective Feb. 19, have been an nounced by the Medford office of Western Union Telegraph company. The hours are 9 a.m. to 1 pjn. and 4 to 9 p.m. : A Western Union spokesman said it is felt that the new sched ule will be of greater conven ience to patrons. The office has been open from 11 a.m. to 3 p jn. and 6 to 11 p.m. on. Sundays. There has been little if any busi ness after 9 p.m. The office is open 7 a.m. to 12 midnight Monday through Saturday. On holidays the hours are 10 a.m. to. 4 p.m. Eighth Grade Students Visit Mail Tribune y Twenty-seven eighth grade stu dents from the home room of Mrs. Marjorie Votaw . at Mc- Loughlin Junior High school, visited the Medford Mail Trib une yesterday morning. The students had earned a half-day holiday for school achievement and used it to. tour the plant and offices of the pa per. Her rancher-father, she said, sub divided his large holdings when "a gambling hotel came in and the land price went up." Actress Makes Records At 16 she left home to travel: In Mexico City "I met producers at a party and they put me in a picture." The vivacious actress, who says she's 23, also scored as a popular singing star on Mexican records. Set of Seven 4-H Club News Butte Falls Boys' Cooking Club Our club met at Mrs. Fuiten's, Jan. 25. One new member joined, Daniel McKeen. Daniel Edmondson demonstrated a raw fruit plate. Later the fresh fruits were served for refreshments to the club and three guests. Our next meeting was Feb. 8. Meeting was called to order by President Don Ash and the 4-H pledge was given. We voted to let girls' cooking club join ours because they only have two members. Gary Price demon strated raw vegetable plate.
