"I suppose in 1913 he was making close to S10 or $12 a week. I wanted to help." Remember First Pay Day "I'll never forget my first pay day," the secretary said, hitch ing a leg over a red leather chair in his comfortable office. Learns About Father When he got home he learned that the senior Mr. Mitchell not only was a reporter, but a stern father. - , "He whopped me good," the Secretary said. Time marched on and finally Jim had saved up enough of his potato spurring and egg cand ling money to reach for higher learning. And right in the middle of his reaching he met and wed Isabelle Nulton. Mitch ell had a chance to buy $1000 in stock of a chain grocery. He went to a bank in Rahway, N.J., and asked to borrow the money. . '. "I must have looked either brazen or honest," he said, "but the banker went along with me.
