EST. 1908 Episcopal Ceremony Weds Pair Miss Phyllis Merrick became the bride of Peter Frederick Purdum in a ceremony held Sat urday, January 28, at St. Mark's Episcopal church in Medford. The bride is the daughter of Mr.J and Mrs. Emerson f. MerricK, Plaza apartments, and the bride groom is a sort of Mrs. Ray Pur dum, Corvallis, Ore., and the late Mr. Purdum. The Rev. George Rl'V. Bol ster read the marriase" ceremonv at 10 o'clock in the morning, and Mr. Mer.rick gave his daugh ter, in marriagei. She wore a bal lerina length wedding gown of embroidered i.hrastaljine and net and her sho'uldef-ierigth veil was held by a cap of lace and pearls. She carried a prayer book with sweetheart roses. Miss Madeleine We'tten, Can by; Ore., was maid-of-honbr. Her frock was of rose colored chrys- talline and she carried pink car nations arranged with, tulle. .Patrick' Gaffney,- Bellview, Wash., was best. man for Mr. Purdum and Edgar R. Barton, La - Grande, Ore.; , seated the guests. - Mrs'. Ernest Conrad was at the j organ, playing Bach's "Now Let Every Tongue. Adore Thee" for the wedding-' processional. The altar flowers were white chrys anthemums and the seven branched ' candelabrum held candles.'- A reception for about 40 guests, was held at ths home of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Hammond, 131 Highland drive. The bride's table -.was decorated with pink and white carnations. The orna ment atop the wedding cake was first been used for the wedding cake of the bride's parents and has been used at several wed dings -since.. Mrs. Robert G. Quickenden, .Eugene, Ore., poured, Mrs. Howard Merriam, Goshen.r Ore., vcut the wedding cake and Mrs. Ethel Walker, Eugene, assisted. All three wom en are auits of the bride. Also assisting with the reception was Mrs. George Gates. For the wedding and recep tion the bride's mother wore a pale green knit suit with pink! accessories and her corsage was of pink carnations. The bride groom's mother wore a dark blue shantung suit with pink carnation corsage. ' Mr. and Mrs. Purdum will live in Corvallis where the bride is on the staff of Good Samari tan hospital as a medical tech nologist and the bridegroom is a student at Oregon State col lege. The bride was graduated fromv Medford High school and Mills college, -Oakland. Calif. The biide's father has lived in the valley 50 years, and the bride . was . born, and reared in Medford. Members are invited to take guests: - Recent Rites Of Interest In Medford Of interest here is news of the wedding of Miss Edna Jeane Driscoll and Lt. Robert; Bruce McKay which took place De cember at Long - Beach Navy station chapel, Long Beach, Calif. The couple is living at Carmel-by-the Sea while the bridegroom attends the Navy post graduate school at Mont erey. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Driscoll, Long Beach, Calif., and the bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. R. A. McKay, 1025 Reddy avenue, who went south for the wedding. ' The bride wore a nylon tulle and Chantilly lace . gown with full skirt trimmed with panels of the lace. The bodice was trim med in sequins and pearls and her lace-edged nylon tulle veil was held by a juliet cap, also with jewel trim. She carried a white orchid with lilies of the valley on a Chantilly lace cov ered white Bible. Mrs. Paul Wicorek, sister of the bride, was matron of honor, and Miss Margaret Marshall was bridesmaid. Both wore ballerina length dresses of azalea rose delustered satin, and matching juliet caps with face veils. Their bouquets . w e r e nosegays V of garnet roses and pink carnations backed by rose, nylon lace.. The , best man ' was Lt. (jg) Brian Jar chow. Paul Wicorek and Edward Keller were ushers. The reception attended- by about 100 guests' was held at Allen center. . Mrs. ' Driscoll ' wore a black suit with pink pearl-trimmed hat and gloves, while Mrs. Mc Kay selected blue with match ing accessories. Both wore pinK camellia corsages. The bride was graduated from Wilson high school and Long Beach City college -where she was active in SFO and Sigma Phi Gamma sorority. Her Bach-, elorette membership is relin quished with her marriage. , The bridegroom received his early education in Medford and iater attended Willamette' un iversity. He was graduated from the University of Washington and the USN language, school in Washington, D. C. His fraternity is Sigma Phi Episilon. . lain, performed the rites. The bride wore a white wool jersey street length dress .with"" shoulder-length veil . which was held by a crown of pearls. She carried a fan with violets and a green orchid. ""he diamond earrings which the bride wore had' been given her by her late grandmother, Mrs. Mary A. Doty, who had had them for 50 years and who gave them to her ' granddaughter to wear first for her wedding day; Mrs Anna Lou Marrs, a sis ter of the bride, and honor at tendant, wore a deep blue; vel vet street length frock. Her bou quet was of white" chrysanthe mums with, yellow centers, bor dered with acacia. Miss Shirley Lynch, -Medford, came from Eugene where she is a student at the' University of Oregon, to serve as candle light er. Miss Barbara Cook, organ ist, also attends the university. William Hercher, Eugene, was best man. Mr. Doty gave his daughter in marriage, and . ushers were Charles Plummer and James Hollowell. . : Violets were used.io decorate the altar -and were entwined on the candlesticks. Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Sims were hosts for the reception at their residence at Camp. White. About 60 guests attended. Mrs. Marrs cut the wedding cake and Mrs. Floyd Barnes, aunt of the bride groom, served the punch. Miss . Lynch . registered the guests and in charge of the gifts were Mrs. Howard Watkins and Miss Jean Johnson. The bride's' mother i wore a hyacinth blue dress and her flowers were salmon colored or chids with white hyacinths. The bridegroom's mother was dress ed in navy blue and her corsage was a white orchid with pink hy acinths. The bride attended Medford schools and is a graduate of Medford High school. She also attended Southern Oregon col lege and Oregon State college. The bridegroom attended Roseburg schools" and until the wedding was employed by the Woolworth company at Eugene. He received a transfer to Rose burg arid will begin his new du ties. February 6. The couple left Saturday for their.; new home there at 1J56 N.E. Lady Elks Plan Leap Year Dance Salad Luncheon Lady Elks have planned a "Leap Year" dance Saturday, February 11, for Elks and their invited guests. Once every four years the ladies entertain the men at this special event. Favors and decorations in the Leap Year theme have been prepared for the occasion.
