Before entering the hospital early Monday, she had been liv ing in a two-room apartment in Ambridge, Pa., with three of her eldest sons. The birth of triplets came just two days before her twin son and daughter celebrated their gecond birthdays. Actually the triple births were the 13th, 14th end 15th offspring born to Mrs. Vos, who was married at 17. One other child died at the age of eight months. Mrs. Vos separated from her husband, Peter, last July and ob tained a final divorce decree in November. She worked as a waitress in a Sewickley lunch room until her condition forced her to resign in September. Baker Temperature 18 Below Zero Portland U.R) The mer cury plummeted to 18 degrees below zero at Baker early today es Oregon was in a "deep freeze" from the coast to the Idaho border. It got colder as you headed east. Newport had 26 and North Bend 29 on the coast. Portland had a reading of 13, Salem 18, and Eugene, Roseburg and Med ford 22. Eend and The Dalles had 9, Redmond 12. Then it really began to get cold. It was 11 below at Burns, 6 below at Pendleton and 3 be low at Klamath Falls, according to official weather bureau read ings. Strong east winds in the Co lumbia gorge were reported, with gusts up to 54 miles per hour at Cascade Locks at 7 a.m. and to 37 MPH at Troutdale Just east of Portland. Redmond had the only mea surable precipitation reported in Oregon during the 24 hours end ing at 4:30 a.m., .01 of an inch. Forecasts called for more cold weather with: temperature ris ing to above normal by Friday or Saturday in western Oregon. Very little precipitation is expected. Sales Tax Opposed For Education Use O Eugene (U.R) Dr. John R. Richards, chancellor of the state system of higher educa tion, last night spoke out in op posion to proposed use of a state sales tax for educational p"urposes. Richards told an educational tax clirHcethat in some educa tional quarters recommendations have been made that the 1957 Legislature earmark a sales tax foreducational purposes only. In a statement of opposition, he said: "Earmarking of such a sub stantial amount of money for only a part of the state's pro gram would tie the hnds of the legislators when they sit down to apportion the income. To bring pressure upon them to pin point these funds does a disser vice to the men and women of the legislative body who are Studying the state's taxation problems and who are looking at the needs of the state as a whole," he said. Oregon Seeks Share Of Priesf Dam Power Portland (U.R) Oregon utili ties begin negotiations tomorrow to -get a share of 31 per cent of the power from the Priest Rap Ids dam project in the state of Washington. Work on the dam starts next July. It will be built by the Grant county, Wash., Public Utilities District. Combined with the Wanapum dam 16 miles up stream the project will cost some $349,000,000. Oregon has been allocated 31 per cent of the power, subject to negotiation by various public and private utilities. The power i is expected to help avert a power shortage in the 1960s. Venezuela Airplane Wreckage Discovered Caracas, Venezuela !U.R) The wreckage of a private plane, car rying 10 persons, including four Americans, was found crashed against a mountain in a remote part of Venezuela today. There were no survivors. A National Guard communi que said the plane apparently struck Capya Mountain in the Acevedo District of Miranda State. Ground and air parties were dispatched to the scene. More Realistic Prices Richard Westerberg, Ashsand, president of the Oregon Milk Producers, and Lester Adams, manager , returned recently from a meeting of the Western States Milk Producers associa tion Portland Jan. 28. The association was organized in October, 1955, to create order ly marketing of dairy products tnrough cooperation of produc ers from the western states. The next meeting will be held in Phoenix, Ariz. Portland (U.R) A holdup man fled with $70 from a gro cery store here last night. It was the 16th holdup in Portland this month. Guided Missile, Fells To Earth Porterville, Calif. (U.R) The Navy said today bad weather conditions were responsible :for severing a guided missile from its control plane in flight and sending it crashing into a orange grove near a farmhouse. The - missile, described by a Navy spokesman as a remote controlled "drone" aircraft, spun to earth yesterday on a igission from an undisclosed base in Southern California's Mojave Desert, about 85 air line miles south of here. The pilotless plane plowed a furrow 25 feet long and eight feet deep through the orange grove close to the ranch house of Robert E. Wolfram. Its frag ments were scattered over a 190 yard area. There were no reports of injuries or other damage. A Navy missile team rushed to the scene to retrieve the wreckage. The Navy would not release detailed information on the drone, saying it was classified. However, the spokesman said it was considered a type of guided missile because it is remote con trolley . . Alaska Guard Chief Dies cl Crash-Hurls Anchorage, Alaska (U.R) Brif . Gen. John R. Noys, Al- National0 Guard commander, died in Nome hospital last night of injuries suffered in a plane crash near the Arctic Circle, hospital attendants said today. Noyes had been in critical Hugo Post Office Discontinued Today Grants Pass The postoffice at Hugo, which has been operating for 52 years, went out of exist ance today, Postmaster Harold Prestel has announced. Resi dents will receive their mail by rural carrier. Hugo is about one mile off Highway 99 just south of Sexton mountain north of here. 0 Mr. and Mrs. William Mac Kenzie have been postmasters of the station about 42 years. Mrs. MacKenzie was a sub-postmaster in Perth, Scotland, from where both came to this country. There were0 30 boxholders at the post office. Mail was deliv ered from Grants Pass after the Southern Pacific stopped passen ger and mail service in Hugo last August. eondition suffering injuries since he and three other guardsmen were found alive yesterday in the wreckage of the plane. A major oil company (Pure) is putting up the station en an 18-acre tract that will be able to park 100 semi-trailer trucks. A staff 23 persons will be needed to operate th air-conditioned station on a 24 hour basis to provide meals, sleeping quarters and servicing of the trucks.
