O : G TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, January 8, 1956 Miss Baker Wed To Jack Dugger Trail Miss Darlyn Jean Sue dell Baker became the bride of Jack Joe Dugger in 6 o'clock evening rites read December 27 by the Rev. J. Thomas Dixon at First Methodist church, Med- ford. Mr. and Mrs. John T. Baker Trail, parents of the bride at tended the couple. Mr. Baker also gave his daughter in mar riage. For " her wedding the bride wore a brown suit. She formerly lived in Yucaipa Calif., and has attended Sacred Heart school at Redlands, Calif. St. Mary's school, Medford, and was enrolled as a sophomore at Prospect high school. The Bridegroom lived for 13 years at Trail and now is em ployed aa, a logger at Bridge Ville, Catif. He attended Trail school and Prospect high school and served for four years in the Army. Nurses To Hear State Officials The meeting date for the local chapter, Oregon State Nurses as sociation, has been changed so that members may have the privilege of meeting two offic ials in their profession, Mrs. Genevieve Tachella, president of OSNA, and Mrs. Nova Young, civil defense nurse consultant. The meeting is set now for Wednesday, -January 11 at 8 p.m.. and will be held in Sacred Heart hospital recreation room -All registered nurses of the vicinity who are interested are invited. A review of a speech made by Dr. Richard Steiner, pastor of the Portland Unitarian church, at a convention of OSNA last fall, will be given by Miss Dorothy Collard. Schmidts Travel East and South Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schmidt, South Pacific highway, return ed last week after a trip east and to southern California. The Schmidts left here in October. The couple visited their son, Lt. Rodney Schmidt of the Unit ed States Navy, Mrs. Schmidt and two children in Charleston, S. C. over the Thanksgiving holi- . day. The officer has been assign ed to duty in London, England, and his family will accompany him to the new post. Enroute west, Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt stopped in New Orleans, La., and after arriving in Cali fornia spent some time in .On tario, Calif., where they former ly Jived. They were guests of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Trask, San DiegOj) for (Christmas, and also visitedi another daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Stockdale and a brother of Mrs. Schmidt in Los Angeles. A third daughter of the couple, Mrs. Jack Draper, and Mr. Draper are the parents of a son born December 17 in Al band, Ore. Mrs. Lanford is the former Carma Helen Ferguson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ferg uson. 888 Second avenue, Gold Hill, and the bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Nancy Lanford, 214 Willamette avenue, Mediord The double ring ceremony iSimpson Family ; Home From Trip; Visits in Mexico Mr. and Mrs. Lewis L. Simp son, 801 King street, arrived home Friday evening after a three-week trip to southwest states and Mexico. They were accompanied by their four children, Ferris, Martha, Susan and Sally. At Mexicali, Baja, Mexico, they visited Mrs. Simpson's uncle, Lloyd Loudon, and his family. Mr. Loudon, vice-president and general manager of the Mexicali Industrial Power com pany, conducted the group on a trip further into old Mexico. They returned to the states by way of San Luis to Yuma, Ariz., and at San Diego, Calif., they spent the New Year holi days with Mr. and Mrs. Fred McMullin and family, until last October, residents of Medford. Mr. McMullin, a Boy Scout ex ecutive, was .transferred to the California city from here. In the Los Angeles area they spent some time at Disneyland and were guests at Disneyland hotel! The family also visited at Santa Barbara. En route south they went by way of -San Francisco and Palm Springs. ! They reported exceptionally good weather conditions on their entire trip, and remarked on the cotton industry which has grown to large proportions around Mexicali; on begonias, poinset tias and gladiolus in blossom on New Year's day and the harvest of tomatoes in fields north of San Diego. G. MacDougall was soloist, and Mrs. Richard Schuchard was at the organ. The bride wore a gown of white chiffon velvet which she had designed herself.. It was trimmed with seed pearls and worn with a pearl-trimmed Juliet cap, which held her finger-tip length veil. The bride carried a white orchid and stephanotis on a white lace-covered Bible. The Bible belonged to the bride's maternal grandmother and was a wedding gift. Miss Betty Miller," Portland, was honor attendant and also attending the bride were Mrs. Wayne Shaw, and Miss Nancy Reine, both Eugene. -They wore red chiffon velvet frocks with matching headbands and all carried sprays of cedar center ed with white lighted candles and decorated around the base with red and silver Christmas balls. The bouquets, which were sprayed with white snow, were designed by the bride. Marilyn Mae Ferguson, niece of the bride from Idaho, Falls, Idaho, was flower girl. Her frock was also of red chiffon velvet worn with matching headband and slippers. Mr. Ferguson gave his daugh ter in marriage and Jerry Rotert, The Dalles,. Thomas Dickey, Eugene, and Richard Ferguson, Gold- Hill, brother of the bride, were ush ers. The bride's mother wore a frock of blue print silk with pink accessories and corsage of pink carnations for the wedding and reception. The bridegroom's mother was attired in a brown suit with brown accessories and corsage of yellow carnations. Baskets of white chrysanth emums, sprays of holly and cedar and white candles were used for the church decorations. The reception which followed was at the Medford hotel, with about 80 guests attending. Mrs. Carl Stem,, aunt of the, bride who flew from Garden City, Long Island, N. Y., for the wed ding, and Mrs. Donald W, "Ferg uson, sister-in-law of the bride, cut the wedding cake. Mrs. Paul Thompson poured- and Mrs. Floyd O'Brien assisted. Mrs. Everett Burwash, sister of the bridegroom, took charge of the guest book and Donald W. Ferg uson served punch. Others here for the wedding were Wayne Shaw, Eugene; Dean Miller, Newport;. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd O'Brien and daughter, Barbara, Eugene; Earle Terry, Jay Dunton and Gordon Given, Portland and Mr. and Mrs. Ger ald Smith, Grants Pass. The bride attended Gold Hill High school and was graduated from the University of Oregon, where she. was a member -oi Delta Delta Delta sorority. She is employed in Eugene as a dental assistant. Mr. Lanford attended Medford High school, Southern Oregon and was also graduated from the University of Oregon, His fraternity is Sigma Nu. He is a field representative for General Motors Acceptance corp oration in Portland. The bride's parents were Hosts for a rehearsal dinner for 23 guests. It was given at Mon Desir inn, Central Point. Riverside Club To Open Series Riverside Bridge club an nounces a new contest series to open Wednesday, January 10 and continue for eight weeks. The club plays each Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pruitt, 1012 South Holly street. Herman and Mrs. Van Gilbert, fourth, 87. New Board Elected For Duplicate Club Board members for the new year were elected by Medford Duplicate club members Janu ary 3 during a master point play. They are Howard Boyd, Mrs. W. W. Stevenson, Miss Isobel Stuart, Mrs. Richard Milestone, George Choate, Jack C. Harris and George Rode. Winners in the north - south positions during the play were Miss Stuart and John Solheim, 117 points; Don Reverman and Jack Harris, HOVi; Mrs. Wil liam Kennedy and Roy Pruitt, 104V4; and Mrs. Paul McDuffee and Mrs. George Mclntyre, 91. The east-west positions were won by Mrs. W. W. Stevenson and Mr. Kennedy, 97V2 points; Mrs. Al Gilhousen and Mr. Rode, 90; 'Mr. and Mrs. Choate, 89Vz, and Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Sander son, 87. Howard were hostesses for the occasion; Two Couples Give New Year Party At Emery Home Mr. and Mrs. Don Emery and Mr. and Mrs. Bill McCulley were hosts New Year's eve at a party at the Emery home, 112 Summit avenue. Games and dancing pro vided entertainment and bal loons and other articles appro priate for the occasion decorated the rooms. ' At the event were Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Jack, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Keith, Talent; Mr. and Mrs. Mark Balfour, Riddle; Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Fixsen, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Montgomery, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Raie, Mrs. Vera Funk and Mrs. Dean Mayfield, all of Med ford. Hogans Attend East-West Game Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Hogan, Siskiyou court, arrived home the first of the week after being in San Francisco for the New Year week end. They were accom panied south by their daughter, Miss Sharon Hogan, a junior at the University of Arizona, who had been here for the holidays. In the Bay city they met their son, Pfc. Michael Hogan, who is stationed at Lake Mead base, near Las Vegas, with the Marine corps. They also met there Miss Hogan's roommate from the uni versity and the two students continued to Tucson the first of the week. The group attended the East West football game and New Year's even the stage comedy, "Anniversary Waltz." Medford Family Home from South Returning this week from Los Angeles after a two-week visit were Mrs. Dean Stacy, her son Robert Stacy, and the latter's children, Bobby, Kathy and Laurie, 215 Vancouver avenue. The group visited Mr. Stacy's aunt, Mrs. Opal Cromwell and his grandmother, Mrs. Charles B. Stacy. The elder Mrs. Stacy, formerly a long-time Medford resident, observed her 85th birthdav Nov. 28. California Couple Married In Church Service at Yreka Hornbrook, Calif. Miss Mari lyn Burns of Hornbrook became the bride Saturday, December 24 of Leland Eugene Stickney of Hilt, in a 3 o'clock afternoon ceremony at the First Methodist church in Yreka. The Rev. Har old Coleman performed the rites. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Burns, and their home at Hornbrook, was scene of the reception. The bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Victor van de Weghe: of Hilt, and Edwin Stickney of Sac ramento. He recently returned from Okinawa where he was sta tioned for the past six months with the Navy. He was born and lived for some time at Central Point, Ore., and was employed by the Southern Pacific Railway company at Medford before en tering the service. For her wedding the bride wore a gown of rosepoint im ported lace styled with fitted bodice and queen anne collar, and full skirt of net worn over tulle. Her juliet cap, of lace to match her gown, was trimmed with embroidery " and shells of pearl, and held her fingertip length veil. She carried a bou quet of gardenias and white car nations in a circle of ice-blue net. The bride also carried a lace handkerchief which originally belonged to her maternal great grandmother. For "something borrowed," she wore a pair of pearl earrings and a pearl neck lace. Mrs. Alfred King, matron of honor, wore a rose colored taf feta gown styled identically to that worn by the bride. Bridesmaids were Miss Jo-Ann Burns, a cousin of the bride, Miss Ines Michelon, Miss Carol Phillips and Miss Marilyn Cum mins. The latter three were roommates of the bride at Chico State college. Their matching gowns were of ice-blue taffeta, also with fitted bodices, off-the-shoulder necklines, and floor length full skirts. All the bride's attendants wore wristlets of white gardenias and blue forget-me-nots. Herbert Stickney was best man for his brother. The ushers, all uncles of the bridegroom, were Fred Wolff, Grants Pass, and Robert Wolff and Oris Wolff, both of Central Point. The latter brother is home on leave from Japan where he is serving with the Air Force. Mrs. Lester Spearin, San Ma teo, Calif. , a sister of the bride, was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. McAdams of Montague, Calif., at the organ. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Burns wore a steel gray dress with light blue accessories and matching corsage of light blue carnations and gardenias. The bridegroom's mother wore a navy blue dress with pink ac cessories. Her corsage was of pink 1 carnations and gardenias. Baskets of white chrysanthe mums and blue delphinium deco rated the church which was light ed with tapers in candelabra made for the church several years ago by the bride's father. Mrs. Herbert Stickney and Mrs. Lester Spearin, sisters of the bride, were hostesses for the reception. Mrs. Oris Wolff registered the guests. The couple made a brief wed ding trip and now are living at Ream field, San Ysidro, Calif., where the bridegroom is sta tioned. The bride, a 1954 graduate of Yreka, high school attended Chico State college. F rakes Return , From California: Mr. and Mrs. William E. Frake and their sons, Bill and Jim, re turned to Medford early last week after a trip south. They visited Mrs. Frake's " mother, Mrs. Mabelle A. King, in Santa Ana, Calif., over . Christmas. ' Enroute home the Frakes were guests of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Clark in Berkeley, Calif. While in southern California the Frakes made a tour -of "Dis neyland" and were enthusiastic over the attraction, terming it wonderful. . George K. Williams is a stud ent at San Jose Junior college and Miss Williams attends San Jose State college part time and also is employed as a secretary at a doctors' clinic. Return Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Wagner, 112 Cottage street, have return ed home after spending the holi days visiting with their sons and daughters in Santa Monica, San Diego and Los Angeles, Calif. Parents Observe 77th Anniversary Mrs. Joe Clark and son, Gail Jensen, 229 North Ivy street, returned home the first of the week from Fairview,,, Utah, where they attended tMte 77th wedding anniversary observance December 11 of Mrs. Clark's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Peterson. It is believed, Mrs. Clark related, that her parents have been married the longest time of any couple in this coun try. While in Fairview they also celebrated Mrs. Peterson's 95th birthday anniversary which was December 28. Mr. Peterson was 95 last September. They also attended the wed ding of another son of Mrs. Clark, Kent Jensen, to Miss Lucy Nelson. The bride is a student majoring in children's work at the agricultural col lege at Manhattan, Kan.
