McCulloch, 20, Kla math Falls, '-ts held in Jackson countyQjail yestrday following his arraignment wi district court og charges of forjery. McCulloch yua irrested by state police Saturday just north of the California, state line. He is charged with forging a S143 check drawn on the United States National bank, Medford branch. He was bound over to grand jury. Norman D. Cox, 20, Klamath Falls, who was arrested with Mc6&lloch, was held in jail on a vagrancy charge. State police said Cox is wanted in California for obtaining property under false pretenses. Police said Cox and McCulloch had in their pos session tires which were pur chased with a stolen credit card. Also arraigned in district court was Stephen W. Agee,- 49, 839 f Wabash st., who was arrested , i.l- i 'c- 1 Dy Slate poiiue oLuiudy uii a charge of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor. Judge Rawles Moore set trial foe February 14 after Agee pleaded nfflt guilty. Edwin Donnelly, .43, of 325 Wimer st., Ashland, was released on $300 bail Saturday following arraignment in district court on a charge of disorderly conduct. HeOis to enter a plea Friday, Dec. 23. Donnelly is charged with en tering the Gleason Crowell resi (nce o Table Rock road Fri day night. David C. Festive, Easy to Maka Candies Sure Hit for Last-Minute Gifts With Christmas practically upon us a candy-making session may well be the answer to the last-minute gift situation. A per- f e c t neighbor-to-neighbor holi day gesture would be a variety of home-made candies packaged in attractive usable containers such as vases, bowls, refrigerator dishes, cannisters or casseroles. However, any box or can with lid will take on Yuletide glam our when covered with easy to handle metal foil. Tape on a sprig of holly or tie with a large bow in contrasting color to add that certain something for a gift of "taste" and beauty. Cherry Nut Fudge 3Vz tablespoons (VS package) cherry-flavored gelatin W cups sugar Vs teaspoon soda cup milk 2 tablespoons butter V cup chopped candied cherries Vi cup chopped walnuts Combine gelatin, sugar, soda and milk in saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until the gelatin and sugar are dissolved. Continue boiling, without stir ring, until a small amount of mixture forms a soft ball in cold water (or to a temperature of 232 degrees, if you've a candy thermometer.) Remove from heat; add butter. Cool to luke warm (about 120 degrees). Then beat until mixture thickens and loses its gloss. Quickly stir in chopped candied cherries and chopped walnuts. Turn at once into greased 8x8 inch pan. When firm cut into squares. Top with walnut halves or bits of green or red maraschino cherries. Chocolate-Dipped Nuts Ideal for Christmas giving, if the family doesn't get to them first. Use Brazil nuts or, almonds and candy-making chocolate. Remove from heat and stir rapidly until entirely melted. When chocolate feels cool to the touch or when cooled to 83 de grees by candy thermometer, dip one end of each nut in the chocolate. Then place on waxed paper until chocolate hardens. Of course you can dip it all in, but half-done looks fancier and doesn't get chocolate on your hands. If any chocolate is left over, pour it into a pan lined with waxed paper and keep in cool place (not in refrigerator) to use for future dipping. Or better still add cropped nuts andor raisins, then form into clusters. Place on waxed paper to harden. ' Foolproof Fudge Just what the holidays or dered is a foolproof fudge recipe. Fudge failures such as too soft or crystalline texture, or rock like hardness are things of the past with this tested easy "recipe. The children will enjoy making this. 2 packages (2 cups semi-sweet chocolate morsels 3A cup .sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated) Melt chocolate morsels over hot, not boiling water in top of double boiler. Remove from heat. Stir in milk and mix until well blended. Pour into an 8x8 inch buttered pan, or shape as de sired. Allow to stand several hours. Makes approximately 1V4 pounds. For thicker pieces dou ble recipe. Variations. Pour mixture into pan then cut into squares. Press whole almonds, walnut or pecan halves in each square, or, shape into three-fourths inch balls, then roll in chopped peanuts or chopped coconut. Fudge Decoration Idea. Lots of steam ing hot coffee for the grown ups. 8 eggs V cup milk teaspoon salt Pepper 4 tablespoons butter to 1 cup diced cheddar cheese Beat the eggs well; add salt and dash of pepper and the milk. Melt butter in heavy- skillet. Pour eggs into pan and place over low heat. Stir as the mix ture begins to thicken. . When eggs are partially cooked, add cheese. . Served on toast or per haps with some hot cranberry muffins and butter. Be sure not to overcook. Eight servings. Cranberry Muffins This fine recipe was garnered from the foods editors confer ence a while back. It depends on raw coarsely chopped cran berries and wheat germ for dis tinction. If you plan on using these for breakfast you can speed things up by sitting dry ingredients and combining with shortening the night before. 1 cup raw, coarsely chopped cranberries 13 cup sugar 1 cup sifted flour 2 teaspoons baking powder Vi teaspoon salt Vi cup sugar cup wheat germ V4 cup shortening 1 egg, beaten Vi cup milk Combine chopped cranberries and one-third cup sugar. Sift to gether flour, baking powder, salt and one-cup sugar into mixing bowl. Stir in wheat germ. Cut in shortening until mixture is fine. Blend together, egg and milk. Add all at once to wheat germ mixture and stir until dry ingredients, are just dampened. Fold in cranberries lightly. Spoon batter into 12 well greased muffin cups. Bake at 400 degrees 20 to 25 minutes. Serve hot with lots of good butter. Turkey Timbales With Mushroom Sauce Most of us are always on the lookout for distinctive ways to make the most of turkey, so here is a recipe that does just that. Chicken or tuna may re place the turkey with equally delicious results. 6 tablespoons butter or marga rine 6 tablespoons flour IVi cups rich milk (light cream) 1 cup turkey stock or canned or bouillon-cube chicken broth Vi cup California Sauturne or other white table wine 2 cups ground, cooked turkey (include gizzard and heart, if you like) 3A cup firmly packed soft bread crumbs 2 eggs, slightly beaten Salt and pepper 2 tablespoons minced parsley 1 (2-ounce) can mushroom stems and pieces Melt butter and stir in flour; add milk, stock and wine; cook stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened and smooth; season to taste with salt and pepper. To one cup of sauce add turkey, bread crumbs and eggs. Blend well. Spoon mixture into six well greased custard cups.- Set in shallow pan of hot water and bake in moderate oven (350 de grees) for 30 minutes or until firm. Meantime, add parsley and mushrooms, including liquor, to remaining sauce. Heat thorough ly over boiling water or very low flame. Unmold baked tim bales, garnish with parsley and serve at once with sauce. Six servings. Sweetbreads and Chips A delightfully different meat dish. Cranberry sauce or other tart relish goes especially well with this. Add a buttered green vegetable, hot rolls and dinner is ready. ' , 1 pound sweetbreads 1 egg Vi cup orange juice 1 teaspoon salt IV2 cups crushed potato chips 1 tablespoon butter Place sweetbreads in boiling salted water. Lower flame and simmer gently for 25 minutes. Cool. Remove thin outer mem brane, then cut in half lengths. Combine egg, orange juice and salt. Dip sweetbreads into mix ture and then into crushed po tato chips. Arrange in a small baking pan. Pour remainder of egg mixture over top and cover with remaining potato chips.
