By UNITED PRESS A killer blizzard raked three Canadian provinces today and swept the Northern United States with wind-driven snow. The Canadian blizzard was the worst of the season and had killed at least one person. Six oil field workers were reported stranded without food in aa iso lated camp, scores of other per sons were forced to take refuge, and business came almost to a standstill. Bus Driver Stranded The provinces of Saskatche wan, Alberta, and Manitoba all felt the blizzard's wrath. In Alberta,' a school bus driver was stranded in his bus for 12 hours just after he had driven 40 children to their homes. Else where, motorists were strand ed, schools were closed, and hest-high drifts blocked the highways. The blinding snowstorm was not as severe in this country, but it still whirled to near-blizzard proportions In North Dakota. The schools at Williston, N.D., were closed after a 40-degree temperature drop yesterday. But school officials announced it was all a mistake. Someone sent in fraudulent report to a radio Srftion during the lunch hour that the schools wouldn't reopen. As a result, 2000 children stayed home. Mors Snow Predicted More blowing and drifting snow was predicted for the Da- kotas and Minnesota today. Houghton, Mich., reported a seven-inch snowfall in 24 hours and Duluth, Minn, residents measured four inches of snow. The cold air mass crowded southward from the Canadian border, reaching near zero levels in the northern snow area and stretching as far south as North ern Texas. Meanwhile, what will prob ably be the last heat wave of the year ended in Southern California. X-Rays For Store Employees Planned Gail's Market in Gold Hill has been the first of food estab lishment in county communities outside Medford to make ar rangements for chest x-rays for all employees, the x-ray com mittee of the ' Jackson County Public Health association, has announced. The committee said a drive to have all food establishments in the county have employees x-rayed for tuberculosis and other chest diseases - will begin aftfr Jan. 1. Alvin York and "William Hoxie are co-chairmen in charge of arrangements. Food firms in Medford which have provided chest x-rays to employees are Quality Market, Big Y, Groceteria, Fluhrer's and Beck's bakeries, the Top Notch, Franklin's Town House cafe, and the Jackson hotel. 5 117 S.
