(International) Eagle Point 32-28 Victor Over Talent O Eagle Point Eagle Point high nudged out Talent 32 to 28 here last night in a tight defense basketball game. Free shots made the difference in the scoring. The Eagles got seven field goals to the Bull dogs' eight but from the gift stripe made 18 out of 29 tries while Talent got 12 for ,25. Talent used a zone defense most of the time and Eagle Point chose to try to go around it. The Eagles used man to man defense and managed to pick up their men well. Gary Foran of EP was the standout of the mix, picking off more than his . share of the re bounds and was all over the Qfloor during the night. He led scoring with 10 points. Quarter scores all favored Eagle Point 9 to 8, 16 to 14 and 23 to 20. Prospect clubbed Headquart ers Company of the National Guard 52 to 27 for its third win against no losses. YMCA beat Phoenix 32 to 26. It was the Y's third win in four games and Phoenix's first loss in three tussles. Moose lodge played at Butte Falls last night but no score was reported this morning. Price Gets 20 Prospect was on top 26 to 11 at the half. Dick Price set the pace with 20 points and Ted Greb put in 14. Bruce .Bateman put in 10 for the Guard. The Y-Phoenix mix was tied 14-all at the half. Don Denman scored 11 and Roland Thompson 10 for the victors. Joe Fenton picked up eight for Phoenix. CO., FRANKFORT, KY. t - " . 1 Axemen, Tornado Scuffles Highlight Cage Week End Tussles between the No. 1 and No. 2 schools in Oregon last sea son will highlight a program of nine games involving seven Jackson county preps this week end. The top attractions are battles between Medford and Eugene highs on Friday and Saturday night. Both games will be at the senior high gymnasium here. Eugene was Class A state champ ion for 1955 and Medford was runner-up. to the Axemen in the state tournament. Jacksonville and Eagle Point start off the week end with a conflict at Eagle Point on Thurs day. The two quintets come to gether again Friday at Jackson ville. Crater high will take to the road, playing at Oakridge on Friday and Saturday. A Fri day contest will find Ashland host to Fortuna,' Calif. On Satur day, Phoenix will entertain Yreka, Calif., and Prospect will journey to Canyonville. Jaycees Play Medford junior varsity vies tonight, meeting the Rogue River varsity at Rogue River. Of interest to fans who want some basis to compare teams will be three games outside the county. Fortuna will : play at Grants Pass on Saturday night. Brookings will play Illinois Val ley at Cave Junction and the two clubs Square off at Brook ings on Saturday. Klamath Falls will be "at home" to Reno, Nev., for two week end games. Both the Eugene Axemen and the Black Tornado are without the regulars and the great height that carried them to high honors last year. But each has a num ber of lettermen and have called up boys from strong junior var sity aggregations. Medford has five lettermen on hand and Eu gene has three players back from its state title squad. Eugene is drawing from an unbeaten jay vee crew. Medford junior var sity last season had almost that good a record. Reinking Drills Letterman Ed Reinking has now joined the Tornado for full time drill. He had been hobbled by a fractured ankle in foot ball. He's still limping but has told Coach Frank Roelandt that the ankle doesn't hurt. Dick McLaughlin is still sidelined from regular drill by a pulled leg muscle suffered last week. Roelandt stated that the Tor nado this week is ' aiming at polishing up its game. 'Condi tioning is still getting attenton because the crew is not yet in top ' physical shape. Five quar ters of tough scrimmage were played last night and the Tor nado practiced also on its press ing game. ; ' The Eugene club is expected to be a hard running club. The Axemen have played two games, beating Benson of Portland 63 to 53 and Albany 49 to 46.
