- FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, November 20, 1955 Newlyweds Now Live at Shady Cove Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gallup Sanford Jr., whose wedding was an event of October 30, are liv ing at Shady Cove. The bride is the former Miss Marjorie New man, daughter of Mrs. Margaret S. Newman, 209 Ashland avenue, and M. E. Newman, Boise, Ida. The bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Harry G. Sanford of Shady Cove and the late Mr. Sanford. The Rev. D. Kirkland West performed the double ring cere mony at 2 o'clock in the after noon at the First Presbyterian church. About 50 guests attended the wedding and the reception, and the couple made a wedding trip to Nevada and Lake Tahoe Miss Anne Sanford, Shady Cove, a sister of the bridegroom was the honor attendant. Dean Engle, also of Shady Cove served as best man. Douglas Johnson and Robert Engel, both Shady Cove, were ushers. The bride's father was here from Boise, Ida., and gave her in marriage. She wore a white wool flannel suit with white orchid e corsage and her accessories were white and brown. Miss Sanford wore a pastel blue suit with blue hat and black accessories. White and lavender chrysan : themums were used to decorate : the church. ! Mrs. Kay Zimmerlee furnished the wedding music. The bride's mother gave the reception at" her home and wed ding cake and punch were served by Miss Myrna Potts and Miss Joan Mete. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Newman wore a blue knit suit with white and brown acces sories and Mrs. Sanford wore a naw hlnA Hrpss with white ac cessories. Their corsages were of white chrysanthemus. The bride is a 1955 graduate of Medford Senior high school, and the bridegroom was grad uated in 1951 from Eagle Point high school. He is employed in Medford by the Solar Lumber company. Out-of-town guests included Mrs. E. E. Shade, Tacoma, Wash., maternal grandmother of the bride; Mrs. Edward Bartolac, aunt of the bride, and Earle M. Newman, San Francisco, a brother. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gallup Sanford Jr., were married Oc tober 30 in First Presbyterian church, Medford. The bride is the former Marjorie Jeanne Newman. Students on Staff Of Radio Station Miss Janice Stevens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Stevens, and Miss Virginia Caldwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nor man Caldwell of 206 Ajax street, Camp White, are now working on the control board and acting as engineers for Pacific univer sity's student radio station KPUR. The station is on the air' from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mon days through Fridays. Miss Stevens is a graduate of Phoenix high school and was active in many organizations. Miss Caldwell is a graduate of Medford high where she was active in chemistry. They both are taking a general liberal arts course. Miss Caldwell is a fresh man and Miss Stevens a sophomore. Ceylon Is Topic For Unit Members; Party Announced Central Point Mrs. A. T. Lathrop reported on Associated Country. Women of the World for. the last meeting of Central Point Extension unit, stressing the women of Ceylon. The meet ing was held in Central Point Grange hall, with 2o women present. Mrs. Lathrop was the hostess. Ceylon is the country being studied this year by extension units since the international ex tension meeting will be held in Ceylon in 1956. Members answered roll call by giving reasons for being thank ful. Mrs. Charles Jantzer gave an interesting demonstration on gift wrapping. Mrs. Arnold Bohnert spoke briefly on program planning and stressed the need for all to help in the planning in order that the program would be of interest to all. Mrs. L. C. Gorden led a lesson on basket weaving. A prize was won by Mrs. Jay Davis. The next meeting will be held December 21 at the home of Mrs. Don E. Faber, assisted by Mrs. Chester Ashton. A Christmas party will be held, and each member attending is asked to take a gift for exchange costing not more than 50 cents. Mem bers are also to take 25 cents for the community service fund to help further the education of the women of Ceylon. Project leaders will be Mrs. Leo Ghelardi and Mrs. Glen Branch who will feature main dish meals. St. Mark's Guild Planning Bazaar ' St. Mark's auxiliary guild members will make final ar rangements for an annual ba zaar to be held Thursday, De cember 1 in the guild hall when they meet Friday, November 25. The meeting will open at 12:30 p.m., and members are asked to take sandwiches. Coffee will be served. Those who attend also should take articles which they have made for the bazaar. John Garner is Boss of Year For Secretaries; Dinner Held With the "Roaring Twenties" as the theme, Rogue River chap ter of National Secretaries asso ciation held the annual "Boss Night" party in the Pioneer room of the Jackson hotel on Friday evening. Decorations carried out the "twenties" theme and included colorful posters depicting scenes common to that era. Favors were flapper dolls. Special event of the evening was naming of the "Boss of the Year." John Garner, president of Cal.-Ore. Machinery company, was declared the 1955 "Boss of the Year". A statuette was pre sented him by Mrs. Kathryn Thomas, president of the local chapter, to acknowledge his con tribution to the organization. Robert A. Shaw, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 962, was the 1954 Boss of the Year. Specialty numbers were sung' by Mrs. Gloria Smith ac companied by Jack Golberg FOR EVERY DIET Collector Writes Stamp Article For Magazine Central Point Mrs. R. E. Car ley, route 2, box 543, Central Point, long active in stamp col lecting and the organizer and first president of the Southern Oregon Stamp club, is the au thor of an article in the Decem ber issue of Covers. The stamp collectors' magazine is published at Albany, Ore., by Arlene M. Van Dahl, and edited by Alma McLing. The article concerns a display of 10 frames of 60 album pages for which Mrs. Carley was awarded a silver medal at a Northwest Federation Stamp club last May in Eugene. Mrs. Carley's article is titled, "Stamps for Bible Verses Re mind of Yuletide." She lists Bible verses with references and which stamps should be used to illustrate each verse.. Mrs. Carley is in her fifth year of sponsoring and acting as advisor to veterans at Camp White for their stamp club. She is dependent on gifts of stamp duplicates to carry on the work and such gifts always are accep table. Annual Meeting Of Scout Council Set November 28 " Plans now are being formu lated for the Rogue Valley Area Girl Scout council fall meeting. It is set for November 28 at the Sacred Heart Catholic church parish hall, 326 South Oakdale avenue. Officers will be elected and new board members will be in stalled during the session which is to be held between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. A noon luncheon will be served by members of the Altar society. Reservations should be made by Monday, November 21 and should be placed by calling district chairman or the Girl Scout office. Those in Medford district may call Mrs. George Ice, telephone, 2-7438; and those who live in the Ashland area may make reserva tions by telephoning Mrs. Calvin Ross, 5592. The district with the largest percentage of registered adults at the meeting will receive a trophy. Mrs. Michele Rossi, council president, will preside and Mrs. Charles Barnes will be chair man of the program. She is area first vice-president. Group Initiates Dinah Hutchison Miss Dinah Hutchison of Ap- plegate was among 85 students recently initiated into the Ste phens Recreation association at Stephens college, Columbia, Mo. . The Association sponsors activ ities which provide an opportun ity for the recreational .participa tion necessary to meet the re quirements for membership. It is affiliated with the National Ath letic Federation for College Women. Miss Hutchison, a junior stu dent, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Hutchison. Thanksgiving Is Theme For Club Meeting Mrs. Marvin Nelson and Mrs. Wilson Bjorge were hostesses November 17 for a meeting- of the Sojourners club held at the Medford hotel. The Thanksgiv ing theme was used and pilgrim figurine cantJles, fruit and pumpkins with spider, chrysan themums completed the decora tions. Over 35 women attended the meeting. Cards were played during the afternoon and prizes were awarded to Mrs. John Graves and Mrs. Charles Camp bell for bridge; Mrs. Lyle Boh rer and Mrs. Etta Pryor, can asta, and Mrs. Lawrence Mc Cormell and Mrs. Victor Kasser, pinochle. Mrs. Jack Weddle al so won a prize during the after noon. .' Seven new members joined the group. They are Mrs. Don Carlon, Mrs. Charles Campbell, Mrs. Bohrer, Mrs. Clyde Knight, Mrs. Lewis Smith, Mrs. Dolor ous Lewis and Mrs: Clarence Staley. The next meeting of the club will be December 8 at 1 p.m., at the Medford hotel. This will be an annual Christmas party and board members will be hostesses. A gift exchange also will be held and officers for the ensuing six months will be elected. The group is made up of new comers to Medford and vicinity and anyone wishing to become acquainted is invited to attend the meetings. Group To Tour Public Library Tuesday Evening Upsilon chapter of Beta Sig ma Phi sorority will meet in the Medford Public library Tues day, November 22, at 7:30 p.m. Miss Helen Webster, librarian, will talk to the group on the library and its place in the com munity and give sorority mem bers some pointers on how to make use of the library in club activities. Members are request ed to attend promptly at 7:30 p.m. since this part of the pro gram must be concluded before the library closes at 9 o'clock. After a tour of the library the meeting will be resumed at the residence of Miss Betty Blair, 1012 Mt. Pitt avenue. Mrs. Rob ert Schroeder in charge of the evening's program will review the book, "Gertrude Lawrence as Mrs. A.," by Richard Aldrich. New Parent-Teacher Group Organized at Hedrick School Hedrick Junior High Parent- Teacher association was organ ized, by-laws adopted, and of ficers elected, at a meeting at the school November 14.r A large number attended. Dr. Lee Mellish is president of ipe new association, with Mrs. J. S. Heatherington, vice president; Mrs. Claud Hoover, secretary and Wayne Jamison, treasurer. The principal of the new school, Vincent Bevis, spoke on the importance of having a parent-teacher unit. The associa tion was formed at his request. Dr. Mellish served as tempor ary chairman with Mrs. A. K. Morse acting as temporary sec retary. The chairman of t h e steering committee was Mrs. Jamison, assisted by Mrs. John Benson, parliamentarian of the Oregon Congress of Parents and Teachers. Other members of the steering committee were Mrs. J. C. Donahue, Mrs. Eric de Place, Mrs. C. G. Van Valzah, Mrs. William Frake, Mrs. Morse, Mrs. Frank J. Van Dyke, and Mrs. Roland Holmes. The by-laws proposed were explained by Mrs. Van Dyke, assisted by Mrs. Frake. They were adopted- unanimously. Both Mrs. Leigh Gustison, representing the Oregon con gress, and Mrs. Holmes, presi dent of the Medford Council of Parent- Teacher associations, congratulated the members on the formation of the new unit. Refreshments were served " to the group by the steering com mittee. Anyone wishing to join the Christian Women To Hold Bazaar The annual bazaar of the Christian Women's fellowship of First Christian church will be held Thursday, December 1 from . 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., in the Fellowship hall, corner of Ninth street and South Oakdale avenue. A hot luncheon will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Gift items will include chil dren's apparel, stuffed toys, ap rons, fancy work, novelties, quilts, candies and other items. A ham dinner will be served from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend the bazaar, luncheon and din ner. Mrs. A. H. Gregory is general chairman of the event. Hedrick PTA will be eligible to become a charter member' if they do so before the next meet ing in January. DOCTOR TO LEAVE Roseburg Dr. George L. Wadsworth, manager of the Rose burg Veterans hospital since 1953, has resigned to become su perintendent of the Anoka State hospital in Minnesota.
