SIX MEDrORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Medford Assembly Plans Reception New members will be received into the fellowship of the Med ford Assembly of God, 1108 West Main st, during the worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday. The church has nearly dou bled its membership within the past year. The Sunday school has experienced a constant increase so that plans have had to be made for enlarging of the Sun day school facilities. At present the Sunday school is engaged in a Sunday school attendance contest with the Roseburg and the Springfield, Ore. Assemblies of God. At the morning worship serv ice the pastor will speak on the topic, "The Spirit of Thankful ness." Music will be provided by the choir. Indoor Meeting Announcement has been made by the board of the church of the forthcoming indoor camp meeting with nationally known Evangelist Arthur Arnold, a con verted Jew, which will begin Tuesday, Nov. 29 and last till Dec. 11. The Rev. Arnold has been camp meeting speaker throughout the United States in the largest camp meetings of the Assemblies of God. He is now engaged in an indoor camp meet in gat the First Assembly of God in Eugene, Oregon. Friends Church Theme Announced "Thanksgiving" will be the theme of pastor Clynton Cris man's message at the Friends church at 11 a.m., Sunday. The choir will sing a Thanksgiving medley, a duet will be sung by Dr. Wayne Roberts and Deane Roberts. Junior church and nursery will be conducted for children. Winners in a Sunday school contest which closed last Sun day will be announced at Sun day school at 9:45 a.m. Adult department w i n n e r s announced last Sunday were, first place, Pat Leek, second place, Roxanne Larson, and third place, Jean Malot. Awards will be presented to the top three winners in each department, and also to all those who totaled 625 points during the five week con test. Christian Endeavor for grade, school and high school young people will be at 6:30 p.m., with three groups meeting with youth leaders. Public worship service will be at 7:30 p.m., with mes sage by the pastor. "Quaker Hour" is broadcast at 9:30 p.m. over KMED. Nazarenes To Give For Missionaries A Thanksgiving worship serv ice is to be conducted in the Med ford Church of the Nazarene, Holly and First sts. next Sunday at 11 a.m., the pastor, the Rev. R. W. Hurn announced today. The observance is part of a month of Thanksgiving being ob served in the Medford church. The local church will receive a special offering for foreign mis sionary work of the church as a part of the traditional Thanks giving Sunday program. The Church of the Nazarene now supports more than 300 for eign missionaries and 1,300 na tive workers. Sunday morning the pastor's sermon subject will be, '"1116 Psychology of Gratitude." Soloist for the service will be Dean von Stein. Gift To Be Purchased For Bishop Coadjutor The Right Rev. Benjamin D. Dagwell, bishop of Oregon, has announced that the annual offer ing at the Advent Communion for men and boys of Episcopal churches in western Oregon will be used to purchase a gift for the hishop coadjutor elect, the Very Rev. James W. F. Carman, dean, Trinity Cathedral, Phoenix, Ariz. It is traditional that the bishop designate the use for this Advent Sunday service offering. Dean Carman, due to visit Ore gon for four days beginning Nov. 27, Advent Sunday, was elected bishop coadjutor at a special diocesan convention in Portland Oct. 17 and 18. Phoenix Church Phoenix Rev. and Mrs. Or ville Kleven are conducting a meeting in the Church of the Nazarene at Third and Pine sts., in Phoenix. The Rev. Mr. Kleven was an elder in the Methodist church for over 25 years and is a grad uate of the Northwestern Bible Training school in Minneapolis, Minn., and of the University of Minnesota. He was a pastor for 11 years ,and has been a confer ence evangelist in the Methodist church for 18 years. He trans ferred to the Church of the Naz arene over a year ago. Mrs. Kleven assists her hus band in the music and singing and plays the vibraharp and piano. She also shows hand painted felt-o-grams, with roto chrome lights, each night. The services which began Nov. 16, will continue each evening through Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m., the Rev. W. V. McArthur, regular minister, announces. Activities Listed For Phoenix Church Phoenix Family night will be observed at the Phoenix Presby terian church Saturday, Nov. 19 and all interested in the Sunday school and church work are in vited to attend with their fam ilies. A covered dish no host supper will be served at 6:30 p.m. Those who attend should take dishes for the dinner including salads, hot dishes, dessert or meats. Dr. and Mrs. Bert Elliott will show slides of a trip to Cuba. The Women's association will conduct an annual praise serv ice, Sunday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. John Kesler Is in charge of the program and Mrs. Roscoe Owens is chairman for the re freshments. A program is plan ned and will include music and other features. An every-member-caavass was conducted last Sunday when 10 couple, participated in the work. beveral projects are planned including redecorating the main church auditorium, the recrea tion hall and some of the class rooms. It also is planned to pur chase a new organ. Sunday school teachers met Monday evening to discuss dans for a Christmas program and teachers of the primary groups met that morning in the home of Mrs. Walter Bolz. John .Dellenback spoke last Sunday evening to the young people's group on the subject, "Choosing Law as a Career." Baptists Slate Sermons, Banquet The Rev. James W. Neely, of the First Baptist church, North Central ave. at Fifth st., will speak Sunday at 11 a.m., on the seasonal theme, "What Is Meant by Thanksgiving?" Music will be provided by the adult choir under the direction of J. Robert Cochran, and Mrs. Ted Graham will be organist. The evening program of the church Sunday will begin with youth and adult leagues at 6:30 p.m. At the 7:30 p.m. evangelistic service Glen Lamb will lead the youth choir in music and the pas tor will speak on the subject, "Victory Through Christ." Monday evening, Nov. 21, at 6:30, a Father and Son potluck dinner will be held in the base ment of the church. All men of the congregation and interested friends are invited to attend with their sons or another boy. The program will be in charge of Dr. R. J. Nordquist, leader of the Boy Scout troop sponsored by the church. A court of honor for boys of the troop advancing in rank will be held, "and" it is planned that forestry films on wild-life will be shown. The day, Nov. 20, has been so designated by the general coun cil of Congregational Christian churches to commemorate the j landing of the Pilgrim Fathers at Plymouth in 1620. The pil grims are the spiritual antece dents of all Americans, but of Congregationalists in particular, since this war the beginning of Congregational churches on this continent. The celebration of Forefathers day fits very well with the Thanksgiving emphasis because the observance of a day of thank fulness and feasting in the fall also began with the Pilgrim fa thers. The sermon by the Rev. Tho mas McCamant will recall some of these historical events. Its topic will be, "Thanksgiving for Forefathers." The music will fol low the thanksgiving theme. K. West To Speak Sunday Dr. D. Kirkland West will speak at the First Presbyterian church on the subject, "Thanks giving Begins Now," at the an nual Thanksgiving services Sun day morning. The Cherub choir, under the direction of Miss Janet Jamison, with Mrs. Earl Lawson at the piano, will sing at both services. The choir is made up of 35 voices. ' Dr. West will speak on "Why do I do Things I Do?" at the eve ning service at 7 p.m. Senior High Westminster fel lowship will have a special meet ing about Thanksgiving. LeRoy Ni dever and Mrs. Nidever of the Phoenix Revival center, Assem bly of God church, returned home Tuesday from a two-week trip to Dallas, Tex. Another speaker was Thomas Hioks, evangelist, who spoke of experiences in connection with his church work behind the Iron curtain in Russia.
