Miss Simms husband, Lorring Buzzell, said the 23-year-old singer received notice that her services will be ended as of Dec. 2. "It's kind of a shock. She's a little bewildered," Bruzzell said. "She took a leave of absence from the Godfrey cast to have a baby last spring and has been on salary ever since. "All she did was have a baby," added Buzzell, "the most normal thing in the world." It was only Tuesday that God frey gave the heave-to to pro ducer Larry Puck, musical con ductor Jerry Bresler and .an nouncer George Bryan of his "Talent Scouts" show. Beverly Hills. Calif. DEAR DOCTOR DOG-IN-THE-MANGER From 'way down south says she has had one difficult deliv ery and one easy one. She had her second baby at home and wishes she could have her third, soon to arrive at home. But she can't find a doctor who will. at tend confinement in the home. I can only infer from the post mark that the lady lives in a town or village so small that its name is not in the gazeteer, not in the medical directory and not on the map. It may be that the doctor who will not attend a confinement in the patient's home just can't spare the time from his practice. If so, then why does the doctor not refer the lady to a doctor who does attend confinement at home? Again it may be that there is no other doctor in the vicinity. This lady's complaint reminds me of the difficulty the young Chicago couple had finding a doctor who attends confinement at home. They didn't like the idea of be ing thrust apart by hospital regu lations and routines. They were in earnest about it, so 'they didn't give up just because several doc tors brusquely refused the en gagement and told them a hos pital is the safest place to have a baby. Finally they found a doctor who not only accepted the engagement but delivered the baby without the use of an esthetics, by natural childbirth, at home. The complaint reminds me also of the difficulty many fol lowers have had trying to find a doctor who treats infected ton sils with diathermy (electro-coagulation), or one who gives of fice (ambulant) treatment for hernia (rupture, breach), or one who gives ambulant (painless in jections in office) treatment for internal piles. Formerly I tried to help these people choose the method of treatment they wanted, by nam ing doctors in their own com munities who were skilled in these modern methods. But the task of compiling and maintain ing such a directory became so laborious and so costly that I had to discontinue that service. It is not at all likely that the Chicago doctors canvassed by the young people who wanted to hallow their home were unaware that some of their colleagues at tend confinements at home and practice natural childbirth if pa tients prefer and I'm in a posi tion to tell the old timers that a steadily increasing number of prospective mothers do prefer this method. This dog in the manger atti tude of the old timers in the pro fession, in respect to new-fangled ideas or improved methods de veloped since they finished study ing, is on the same plane as the bitter prejudice and intolerance of the profession for homeopath ic doctors, in the past, and for osteopathic doctors even now. Wayne Morse yesterday urged denial of Idaho Power Com pany's application for rapid tax writeoff certificates or the com pany's proposed Brownlee and Oxbow dams. The Oregon Democrat made the recommendation in a letter to Arthur S. Flemming, director of the Office of Defense Mobilization. Morse said that under the ac celerated amortization program, Idaho Power would be accorded tax savings of $31,357,000 on its Brownlee and Oxbow projects. He said the sum could be in vested and over the 50-year period of its Federal Power Com mission license would yield $338,406,000. Southern Pacific freight train rammed a panel truck load ed with Mexican laborers at a private crossing 11 miles south of here. , According to the Monterey County coroner's office eight bodies had been delivered to Sa linas mortuaries, whijfe six in jured were in the Salinas Val ley Memorial hospital. Earlier, Southern Pacific reported nine persons died in the accident. The accident took place at 7:15 a.m. near the little town of Chualar, eight miles south of Salinas.
