o O - Mrs. Harold Geigle Honored at Shower In Central Point Home Mrs. Harold Geigle was hon ored at a shower given October 14 by wives of the Oregon state highway commission survey erew now in this area. The event was held in Cen tral Point at the home of Mrs. Dennis Hayden. Mrs. Vic Bern ings, also of Central Point, was the hostess and she and Mrs. Hayden served refreshments. Games were played and Mrs. Geigle was presented gifts. Others at the event, all from Medford, were Mrs. Jack Row land, Mrs. Roy Stein, Mrs. Earl Purdy, Mrs. Wilmer Robertson and Mrs. Frank Brown. Williams celebrated their golden wedding anniversary October 16 with open house at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Elmer Vickoren, 728 West Eleventh street. The Williams have lived in Medford sine 1911. (McMurray photo). Couple Holds Open House On Golden Wedding Day Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Williams observed .their golden wed ding anniversary October 16 a I open house held at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Elmer Vickoren, 728 West 11th street. They were married October 18, 1905 in Oroville, Calif, and came to live in Medford in 1911. For many years Mr. Williams was associated with the Guggen heim Mining company and for two summers was employed by that company in Alaska. " In 1915 he was employed by the Rogue River Valley Canning company where he was superin tendent for 30 years . until he retired in 1950. Many friends called on the couple during the1 open house and' they were presented gifts and flowers in honor of the oc casion. , 1 - The anniversary cake ' was served by Mrs. Mabel Cox. Serv ing the coffee was Mrs. Orville Evansizer, a longtime friend of the family who was here from Berkeley, Calif. The punch was served by Mrs. Dean - Pruett and Mrs. James Kneeland had charged of the gifts. Mrs. L. E. McMurray reg istered the guests.; Mrs. Vickoren -was ,assisted by Mrs. Kathryn Shipman, Oak land, Calif., aunt of Mr. Wil liams. Others who assisted about the rooms were Mrs. Julia Brown, Mrs. Albert Trautman, Central Point, and Mrs. Carol Vickoren, Eagle Point. Mr. McMurray took pictures of the event. Mrs. Bryant, a past chief of the temple, was pre sented a corsage from Mrs. George Thomas, present chief., A rummage sale was set for November 8 at 106 North Ivy street. Members having rum mage are to take it to the Pyth ian building. Members who wish to contribute toward the fruit to be sent to the Pythian home are to contact Mrs. Polly Offutt. A prize was won by Mrs. Rose man. The refreshment committee for the evening was Mrs. Joe Cook, Mrs. Edna Lamp and Mrs. Leroy Cline. The next meeting, November 1, will be roll call night and the committee , will be Mrs. Max Hawks, Mrs. John Russell and Mrs. Betty Whitney. President Names Committee Heads For Howard Unit Howard Extension unit held its : first regular fall meeting Thursday, October 13, in Har mony hall of Friends' church, Merriman rd. Mrs. Ernest Glea son, chairman, conducted the business meeting. " Committee chairman named were AACW, Mrs. Roy Carley; hospitality, Mrs. William Breeden; citizen ship, Mrs. Herbert Lingren; safety and health, Mrs. Warren Holbrook. , A request for Betty Crocker coupons for silverware was is sued in behalf of Azalea house, a cooperative women's residence hall on the Oregon State college campus. Azalea house, from the time of its construction and fur nishing, has been a continuing project of all Oregon Home Ex tension units. College women wishing residence in the house must submit their application for approval by the County Ex tension service, since this appro val is the basic requirement for residence. One major study project of the Howard unit will be con cerned with Ceylon, which is the site of the 1956 world confer ence of the Associated Country Women of the World. Mrs. Roy Carley, who attended a similar conference in Denmark in re cent years, will lead this study. Mrs. C. C. Peterson and Mrs. Verle Walker gave the first les son on gift wrapping. Hints for pretty packages included util izing available materials, prepar ing things ahead of time, and the shape of a package deter mining the type of wrapping. Many clever ideas were offered for economical yet novel wrap ping materials that the average housewife can find in her own home. A basket weaving lesson was given, by Mrs. M. J. Swing and Mrs. Henry Friesen. Each mem ber made a reed mat. Making a basket will be the project for' the second lesson at the Novem ber 10 meeting of the unit. Hostesses for the luncheon were Mrs. Ralph Merritt, Mrs. LeRoy Bailey and Mrs. Gleason. Tables were recorated with bou quets of fall roses and .colorful berries. Twenty-one regular members attended the meeting, and two new members are Mrs. Earle Fichtner and Mrs. F. C. Freeman. Four visitors were C. E. Qhisum, Mrs. J. R. Tun gate, Mrs. Troy Spaur and Mrs, C. Updike, who is le chapeau departmental du Ore gon, will make her official visit to the Jackson County salon of 8 and 40 Thursday, October 27. A social hour will be held at 7 p.m. at the home of Mrs. .H. J. Meiring, 2460 Hillcrest road, fol lowed by a no-host dinner at Henry's. Mrs. Updike makes her home in Toledo, Ore. . . All members of 8 and 40 are invited to attend, as a discus sion period will follow the din ner. v Junior High To Organize PTA Unit Mrs. Wayne Jamison ; is ser ving as chairman of the steering committee for organization of a parent-teacher association at E. H. Hedrick Junior High school. The committee met October 20 in the school' library with Mrs. John Benson,. Jackson county PTA vice president. Organization of new PTA units is the responsibility of the county council president as a member of the state board of managers, with the assistance of any other state board members who happen to be in the given area. Mrs. Benson is also state parliamentarian. Mrs. C. F. Con ley, of Ashland is county, coun cil president. The organizational meeting will be held Monday, November 14, at 8 p.m. in the 'school cafe teria. At that time members will be enrolled, by-laws adopted and officers elected. Vincent Bevis, principal of the new school, asked to have a PTA unit organ ized in his school. Present at the meeting be sides: Mrs. Jamison and . Invites Students To Enter Contest Rogue River Students of the Rogue River schools are invited to enter the annual conservation poster and essay contest spon sored by Oregon Federation, of Garden clubs, it was announced at a meeting of the Rogue River Garden club held last week. .
