Towne Beats Milo Savage In 10 Rounds New York (U.R) Middle weight Artie Towne of New York blamed himself today for "waiting too long to get a knock out opeping" in Monday night's lack-lustre television victory over sixth-ranking Milo Savage of Salt Lake City at St. Nicholas Arena. "I'll do a hundred per cent better the next time," promised the brawny ring veteran who won a 10-round split decision over Savage bythe scanty mar gin of a single point. Cult Loos To earn ' that margin Towne cut loose in the 10th round of the dull bout and staggered Sav age with a right to the chin, and then inflicted a 12-stitch gash on Milo's right brow in the barrage that followed. The close win over contender Savage pably gained Towne a berth among the top ten as nirants for the 160-pound crown, but it brought him no immed iate offers of fights. Artie, a last-minute favorite at 6 to 5, weighed 161 pounds to Savage's 159 as he regis tered his first New York victory on the comeback Jrail and his eighth win in nine fights since he returned to the ring early this year after three years' retire ment.
