The singers (pictured aboveHeft to right) are Harvey Ruegsegger, Dick Speck, Earl Gibbs, and Marion Castle. E. M. Eldridge, field representative of the college, will speak on the im portance of Christian higher education in today's society. The college is located at Eugene. The quartet is made up of the singers who are in training at the college. Each fall tryouts are held for the male quartet and those selected are trained by the music de partment of the college. They then officially represent the college for the calendar year. Friends To Mark 13th Anniversary Sunday will mark the 13th anniversary of the Friends church and also the opening day of the annual fall Sunday school contest. This year's contest theme will be "Mountain Climbing," with individuals competing for prizes in each of the four departments. In an effort to break the pre vious record attendance of 300, Sunday's goal has been set at 301. Speaker for the 11 a.m. wor ship hour wil be the Rev. Dean Gregory, general superintendent of Oregon, Washington and Ida ho Friends churches. Children's church will be conducted for children in grades one through four, and there will be a nursery for babies. Fellowship dinner will be served at 1 p.m. An anniversary cake to serve 300 guests will be baked by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Work-Laniewski. Mathewson, pastor of the Church of the Four Square Gospel, East Jackson st. and Biddle rd., has been ap pointed chaplain of the Medford squadron of the civil air patrol, CAP officials . announced this week. Before ' coming to Medford three years ago, the Rev.. Mr. Mathewson did missionary work abroad and in various . Idaho churches. He has been active in youth activities. Through his guidance it is expected that the Medford squadron will take a more active part in a national CAP chaplain's program of youth guidance. The Rev. Mr. Mathewson will be available to CAP cadets and senior members and will assist them with CAP activities. Char acter guidance lectures empha sizing the important of spiritual values, moral responsibilities and self discipline will be a part of the new program. Child Evangelism SessionsAnnounced A Teacher's training institute will be conducted October 17 through 21, under the sponsor ship of the Child Evangelism fel lowship. The Rev. Arthur Nickel, director of Child Evangelism for the British isles will be in charge. Registration will begin Mon day,. Baptist Officer To Conduct School At Temple Church Bob Dove, assistant to . the Sunday school and training un ion secretary of the Baptist Gen eral convention of Oregon-Washington, will lead churches of the Siskiyou Baptist association in Josephine and Jackson counties in an associational training school next week. Classes will be held in Temple Baptist church at 794 Lozier lane. Administration for each of the departments of the Sunday school, Cradle roll, through the adults, will be taught. Methods of teaching the Bible in particu lar departments will be stressed. Teachers of the departments will be, adults, Bob Dove; Young People, Floyd Yeats; Intermedi ate, Margaret Covey; Junior, Earl Covey; Primary, Ella Lan deir; Beginner, Francis Kim mons; Cradle roll, Ruth Yeats, and Extension, Francis Gilchrist. Except for Monday the classes will begin at 7:30 p.m. On Mon day classes will, begin at 7 p.m. Following the class periods in each department, Mr. Dove will speak to the general assembly. Everyone interested, regardless of denomination, is invited to attend. Congregationalists Slate Observances A double celebration will take place at the - Congregational church Sunday. Laymen's Sun day will be observed, and also the second anniversary of the first service held by the congre tion. There was no Congregational church in Medford prior to Oct. 18, 1953 when the first service was held in the building that had been prepared for that pur pose near the corner of Oakwood drive and Groveland ave. People who attended that first service are especially invited to return for the anniversary. Some have become active members of the church 'which was organized the following April. One, Mrs. Clifford Platz, will speak in honor of the occa sion, on the topic, "After Two Years." Men to Speak In celebration of Laymen's Sunday two of the men of the church, will speak. Arval M. Brooke's subject will be. "The Layman's Part in the Church." Gatewood G. Smith will speak on "The Layman's Witness in His Daily Work." The choir will sing, "The King of Love My Shepherd. Is." At the close of the service, a coffee hour in the Sunday school building will be conducted. Temple Brotherhood Meeting Scheduled W. A. DeVRIES BEGINS A SALVATION HEALING REVIVAL COME EARLY FOR A SEAT milt PAUL SKILES Trombonist NazarenesSchedule Muscian, Speaker Paul Skiles of Santa Cruz, Calif., is scheduled to appear in the Medford Church of the Naz arene, Holly and First, for a fall evangelistic crusade, Oct. 23 through 30. Mr. Skiles is youth director for northern California for his denomination. He is considered an outstanding trombonist and choir director. The speaker for the fall cru sade will be Dr. George Coulter, former Medford pastor, and at present district superintendent for northern California in the Church of the Nazarene. Mr. Coulter served the Medford church during the years 1945 through 1948, and since 1948 has served in his present position. Methodists Slate Reception Service New members will be received into the First Methodist church at the 11 a.m. service Sunday. A coffee hour, sponsored'in their honor by the commission on membership, will be held imme diately following the service. The closing session of the fall School of Christian Living will be held at the First Methodist church Sunday, when Dr. Bal comb will conclude his series on, "The Church Around the Corner." The first will be Sunday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m., in. the tempor ary quarters of the Berean Bap tist church in the Camp corral building at Camp White. The second will be Monday, Oct. 17, at 8 p.m., in the First Baptist church auditorium, dur ing a meeting of the Men's Fel lowship group.
