FOUR MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Frldmy, October 14, 195S County Children Receive Help From Boys, Girls Aid (Editor's Not: This ! an other in a serin of brief arti cles describing the agencies which benefit from the United Medford Crusade fund drive, now under way. Mem Eighteen Jackson county chil dren received 3,123 days care through the Boys and Girls Aid Society of Oregon during 1954, according to figures released by Stuart R. Stimmel, state direc tor, to M. M. Huggins, chairman ! of United Medford Crusade. The Society served 1,002 children and unmarried mothers last year. Stimmel pointed out that in terms of human needs, this means that a great many chil dren who have suffered perma nent or temporary loss of their own homes, were cared for in good foster homes supervised by the society, until they returned to their parents or were placed for adoption. The 163 babies and older chil dren placed for adoption by the society in 1954 was the largest number ever placed by any agency in Oregon. It represented an increase of 16 per cent over the previous year, and the chil dren were placed in 31 counties throughout the state. Forty-five of the children were under one month of age, and 20 were from 6 to 16 years old. Seventeen be longed to seven groups of broth ers and sisters placed together. Children of all races are placed by the Society, and applications from couples interested in adopt ing are always welcome. Aver age wait by those receiving chil dren in 1954 was less than eight months. Unmarried mothers aided by the Society numbered 340, 168 of whom were under 21 years of age. The service Included med ical care, living arrangements and skilled counseling. The soci ety's new educational program of high school subjects is now available to unmarried expectant mothers who have not completed their schooling. Courses will be given at the society's headquar ters, 2301 Glisan st.,' In Port land. The Boys and Girls Aid soci ety of Oregon is a member agen cy of United Medford Crusade and of Community Chests and United Funds throughout the state. Medford is the only com munity in the state in which a branch office of the society is located. To insure the welfare of Jackson county children who need help, Allen H. Hatch, super visor of the local branch office, urges the people of this com munity to give generously to the United Medford Crusade.
