MSG Picked Over Indians By UP Scribe Br HAD WOOD San Francisco (U.R) All the way from eighth place right back to the top of the heap in the national Pigskin Picking derby. That was this department's astonishing record for last week a record only slightly less mashing than theeBums' win .over the Yankees. We're not in the habit of bragging, but take a look at what our think-tank came up with last week: We picked Southern California over Texas by 13 Final Score: USC 19, Te$as 7. Wt picked Washington over Oregon by 20 Final Score: Hus kies 19, Oregon 7. Also we had California over Penn by 6 Final Score: Cal 27, Penn 7; and UCLA over Wash ington State by 34 Final Score: Bruini 95, Cougars 0. So without taking a deep breath, how about these super ipecials for this week: Michigan State over Stanford: The Indians beat Ohio State last week, but it may be that he Buckeyes aren't as strong as they are touted. Spartans by 13. California over Washington State: The Golden Bears, as Pap py Waldorf would say, are start ins toQjell. Cougars admit they haven't much. By 17. OSC, UO Underdogs Southern California over Washington: Nobody knows just how good this Husky pack is this time. Any club that can lick Minnesota 30-0 must have pretty lair balance. But the Trojans have played the tougher sched ule. By 13. UCLA over Oregon State: The Beavers from the North have an unbeaten record so far, but in years past they usually have folded completely in the Los Angeles Coliseum. Bruins get ting better. By 20. ' Colorado over Oregon: The Buffs haven't been scored on this year in turning back Ari lona and Kansas, and Webfoots may be in for an "off" year. By ix. College of Pacific over Idaho: The Tigers, playing a murderous schedule, may run wild against the Vandal3. By 20. Also San Jose State over Arizona- Tempe State, Arizona over West Texas State, Lewis & Clark over Linfield, Whitwortb over Central Washington, San Francisco State over Cal Aggies, Nevada over Sfjcramento State, Chico State over Whittier, San Diego State over Pomona-Clare-mont, Los Angeles State.over Occidental. - ' - m tmm BIG MAN IN BROOKLYN Dodger Johnny Podres is a ticture of determination as he serves up a pitch in closing inning of final World Series game against the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. Junior HigK Eighth Grade Teams Knot McLoughlin and Hedrick eighth grade footballers fought to a 6 to 6 deadlock yesterday afternoon in the first official rivalry between Medford'i two junior high schools. Hedrick tallied in the first quarter on a long run and Mc Loughlin turned a pass intercep tion into a touchdown in the third period. The new east side school got the first TD despite the fact that practically all of the first quarter was played in its territory. McLoughlin had threatened after Jerry Anderson's opening kick-off rolled only four yards, driving from the Hedrick 44 to the 21 before being thrown back. Hedrick took over the ball on the 28 but was penalized back to the 22. Four plays gained to the 37 then Gary McGill skirted left end with super interference and ran down the sideline in. a 63- yard romp to score. It was the only offensive thrust of the stanza into Bulldog territory. Conversion Nullified Don Cranston ran over the conversion to make it on the next play. The west side Bulldogs threat ened again in the initial panel after big, hard-running Lynn Knight ran the kick-off back 39 yards to the Hedrick 28. Mc Loughlin got to the 22 but a holding infraction ended the drive. Big share of the second quar ter was played in the west school's portion of the field with Hedrick once getting to the Mc Loughlin 21. Rest of the game was battled about evenly. Knight set up the Hedrick TD by his interception of McGilFs toss. He gathered in the ball in midfield and struggled to the 13 yard line. On the next play he went around right end to the goal. On the extra point try Knight had trouble getting hold of the ball and was stopped inches short of the goal line. Best gains for either team dur ing the afternoon were around ends. The clubs played a short ened fourth quarter after stop watch trouble lengthened the third. Friday, October 7. 1955 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE ELEVEN n Standings: Pierce Freight Lines .
