Durno, Jackson "county civil defense medical chairman, reported to the Jack son county medical society at a recent meeting that training in the technique of procuring blood will be obtained by local phy sicians and nurses r ot a t i n g through the Red Cross mobile collection unit. Medford Blood Center Medford, Dr. Durno noted, along with Klamath Falls and Coos Bay have been designated as blood collection centers dur ing emergencies, and that local physicians will be educated in procuring techniques of the bloodmobile. The society also announced that Dr. Theodore P. Barrs of Washington, D.C., is en route to Medford to establish a practice in anesthesiology. Dr. Jack Ingram, Medford ear, nose and throat specialist, pre sented a paper, "diseases of the Ear, Nose and Throat Caused by Nerve and Blood Vessel Dis orders." Guests Present Several guests were present, Including Dr. Thomas Bolton, orthopedic sugeon; Dr. Andrew Bulkley, pediatician; Dr. Daniel Boals, anesthesiologist; Dr. .Lau rel G. Case, general practice; Dr. Lee Harlow, dermatologist; Dr. Robert Jackson, obstetrician and gynecologist at Medford clinic; Dr. Stanley Brown of Gold Hill; Dr. John Reed, gen eral surgeon, Ashland; Dr. W. Roney, Dr. John Waterman, child psychiatrist of Portland, and Dr. William Todd of Camp White. Crash Near Arlington Kills Washington Man Arlington fUJ.PX One man died and two othen were in jured Friday afternoon when a car-trailer slipped onto a soft shoulder near here and caused the car pulling it to swerve into the path of an oncoming auto. Frank Meehan, Richland, Wash., died at 6 p.m. in The Dalles general hospital. He was driver of -the car pulling the trailer. In serious condition at the same hospital were Douglas P. Bolton, 46, Warm Springs, N. M., driver of the other car. Bolton's wife suffered less' serious injuries. Meehan, a security guard at the Hanford atomic works in Richland, Wash., was scheduled to retire in 30 days. Use Tribune Want Ads I ( tri work but T 1 1 "SWEEPY" Comic Book ' Assits Training in VA Domiciliary Here 1,000 Expected at Fall Ceremonial ; Set for Oct. 8-9 Nearly 1,000 persons are ex pected to attepd the annual fall ceremonial of the Far-Western Temple association of Nomads of Avrudaka and Dramatic Ord er of the Knights of the Khoras- san, to be held in Medford Oct. 8 and 9, it was announced Saturday. Fuhat Burkan Temple 224 will be host for the gathering, for which delegates frorn some 43 temples and 35 santhas from the 11 western states and three western provinces of Canada are expected. Registration Registration for the gathering will be at the Medford hotel both days. A parade of Nomads and DOKKies will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, and a banquet will be held at the Jackson hotel that evening. At 8:30 p.m., the ceremonial will be held at St. Mary's school. Among the dignitaries attend ing will be Imperial Prince Raymond E. Schilling, Butte, Mont., Imperial Secretary Carl R. Camp White The Veterans Administration has issued four comic books as training manuals in the better hospital housekeep ing program now under way. The lessons are presented with cartoon drawings accompanying the text and four characters Dusty, S weepy, Moppy and Waxey. These four were introduced to the domiciliary Friday at a showing of the characters, pro jected on the screen in the thea tre, and synchronized with dia logue reproduced in the control booth. Training Program The show was held morning and afternoon -as part of the training program for the benefit of members and employees. It had an "electric" effect . in the morning, dusting 'and sweeping for inspection and the buildings were shining as a result. The ' event was arranged by Personnel . Officer Heitkemper and presented by Al Birman and Jim Kea, projectionists of spe cial services. These four elves have much to do with the appearance of VA installations and have a ruling part in the daily routine, as every veteran who has ever visit ed a hospital or home will testify. "This visual aid on house keeping techniques has been de veloped for the Veterans Admin istration by a nationally known consultant in the field of house keeping management," Dr. Joel T. Boone, former chief medical director, explains. Importance Stressed "Hospital housekeeping is a most important phase in provid ing medical services," Dr. Boone states. As an example, this advice is given by Dusty: Don't get "pinched" while dusting; this pure carelessness. You. need all of your fingers, so don't lop them off while dust ing an electric fan. Pipes and radiators can.be "hot stuff" and burns from them can be painful. Don't over-reach. Avoid 1 a wrenched back by stretching carefully when "dusting in high places. Remove articles from top sur face before dusting.
