e SIX M2BP08D (OREGOlf) MAIL TRIBUNE Tuesday, September 13. I95S d i I T . ! I . ' ' ' ' .'' 'v I, - ; : WASP WAIST FASTER Convair engineers at San Diego . have disclosed how they gave the F102A jet interceptor a wasp waist and increased its speed, allowing it to slip more smoothly through the some barrier. At top is the WF-102 prototype with a straight fuselage, and at bottom is the F-102, with the pinched fuselage that reduces drag. On The Side By E. V. Durling (Distributed by King Features Syndicate. Inc.) The number of men going in lor appearance rejuvenating is increasing. And why not? It isn't all vanity. The way some business organizations are dis criminating against men, over 40 is sufficient to inspire a man to stay looking as young as long as he possibly can. Another angle is that many wives, though the same age as their husbands, look 10 or 15 years younger. Why shouldn't a man look as your as his wife if possible? Many women don't like the idea of a husband looking too young. They think it will give him young ideas. Maybe they are right. That's hy women make sarcastic remarks about "beauty shops for men" and call health belts "girdles" or "cor sets." This attitude has discour aged men in the past, but lately many males have been ignoring the nasty cracks and going in for trying to achieve a younger Iodic. Please Note Did the better horse win the Nashua-Swaps match? I think so. Still it is open to discussion. However, one thing that cannot be disputed is that the better men won. That is, the better sportsmen. When Nashua de feated Swaps inthe Kentucky Derby, Messrs. Woodward and Fitzsimmons offered no excuses. They congratulated the winner. After the match race the trainer of Swaps intimated Jockey Shoemaker didn't get the colt off as fast as he should. Follow ing that came a series of remarks about Swaps being injured at . the start, having a bad foot, etc. Allotending to dim the glory of Nashua's splendid victory. I sug gest Messrs. Ellsworth and Ten ney give a thought to the Sports man's Prayer, and also cortsider the observation of Oliver Wen- 411 Holmes: When defeated, To own up, put up and shut up These are the virtues of a sporting man.' Horse & Women Does your- wife suffer from corns? That is a painful ailment that can make even a good na tured woman very irritable and difficult to get along with. One of the causes of corns is shoes that do not fit. That is footwear purchased in an effort to make the feet appear smaller. Why do women worry about the size of their feet? Men pay little atten " tion to whether a girl has small or large feet. Anyway, they say the girls with large feet make . the best wives. Has been in the moving picture business 35 years and always as an execu tive. His father, L. J. Selznick, film magnate of the yesteryear, had the interesting idea that a boy should start at the top. So he made his sons Myron and David both executives when they were under 21. Both de veloped into highly successful men. Myron was Hollywood s leading agent for years. David has produced innumerable suc cessful films, including "Gone With the Wind." He also has de veloped such stars as Gregory Peck, Vivien Leigh, Ingrid Berg man and Jennifer Jones. Late Start Have just heard of a Brook lyn woman who at the age of 61 learned to drive an automobile. She had never even had her hand on an automobile wheel previously. She received her first driving license at 61. Can California top that? How about Texas? Caution When traveling by air to the same destination, Larry Parks and his wife, Betty Garrett, al ways take different planes. This in the interests of their two children. They feel if one of the planes is involved in a serious accident with all lives lost the youngstsrs will have one parent left. GIRLS' STRETCHABLE NYLON ANKLETS 49 C Pr.
