Milwaukee (U.R) Undue leniency in treatment of crim inals in the nation's prisons may be unfair to society and to youth, a Wisconsin official be lieves. State Assistant Atty. Gen. Wil liam A. Platz told a convention of correctional personnel here that present emphasis on reform of criminals and their speedy return to society must be tem pered with "some consideration for society." Platz said that if young peo ple observed undue leniency in treatment of criminals, they would not be deterred from "similar crimes." He urged that a system of criminal law be enacted to meet standards of corrective law to replace the present system which, he said, was "a hodge podge, archaic and difficult to understand."
