Leniency Knocked in
Treating Criminals
. Milwaukee (U.R) Undue
leniency in treatment of crim
inals in the nation's prisons
may be unfair to society and to
youth, a Wisconsin official be
lieves. State Assistant Atty. Gen. Wil
liam A. Platz told a convention
of correctional personnel here
that present emphasis on reform
of criminals and their speedy
return to society must be tem
pered with "some consideration
for society."
Platz said that if young peo
ple observed undue leniency in
treatment of criminals, they
would not be deterred from
"similar crimes."
He urged that a system of
criminal law be enacted to meet
standards of corrective law to
replace the present system
which, he said, was "a hodge
podge, archaic and difficult to
understand."

Scores of Sightseers
Youngstown, N. H. (U.R) Old
Ft. Niagara, many scores of years
ago a guardian outpost at the
mouth of the Niagara river and
now a tourist attraction, is prov

sightseers.
. During the past fiscal year
some 238,826 persons visited the
ancient landmark, the highest
number on record. The old fort
ress was refurbished some years
ago to preserve its original look,
but plans now are being made to'

Rest in $20,000 Caskets
Wilmington, Mass. (U.R)
Two old-time Wilmington physi
cians, who were married to each
other, rest in Wildwood Ceme
tery in two of the most expen

The caskets, specially con
structed of rare woods for Dr.
Henry Hiller and his wife, Dr.
Frances B. Hiller, cost $20,000
each at a time when a dollar was
worth a dollar.
The elaborate burial cases
were the idea of Mrs. Hiller, who
devoted many months to super
vising their construction.
