On The Sido By E. V.CbURLINft (Distributed by King Feature Syndicate. Inc.) Though constantly ridiculed by critics and columnists, Libe race continues to be an outstand ing attraction. Sq comments a Chicagoan. who then adds, '"No entertainer or act in show tisi ness history has been so ridi culed as Liberace and still con tinued as a box office attrac tion." With that claim I cannot agree. How about the Cherry Sisters? Leo Woman Q The British Princess Margaret was born under the sign of Leo (July 23-Aug. 22). When young, Leo women are Inclined to let than enthusiasm for romance run away with their judgment. Many marry in haste. However, the Leo females will not stay with an unhappy marriage very long. That's why so many marry more than once. Leo women strongly brieve in the equality of the sexes. They can only be dominated g'hen they feel like it. They are fond of children. Make excellent mothers. Are not happy uftess the leader of the Itousehold. Like little remem brances of things past. The hus band of a Leo must not only re member his wife's birthday and wedding anniversary, but the day they first met, the time he first kissed her, the day she first told him he was to become a fa ther. And so on. When away from home he must also write his Leo wife a love letter every day. Leo women have great physical magnetism. They like to flirt. But their fixations are harmless. They are just trying out their male appeal.' Or, so say the stargazers. Busy Street What is the world's busiest shopping street? It is none other than 34th st. in the borough of Manhattan. Yet v it couldn't compare to a happen ing in Chicago in the early twen ties. At that time in Chicago a person referred to by the press as a "man-woman" was arrest ed for bigamy charged with be ing the wife of a man and the husband of a woman. The so- called "man-woman" afterwards made stage appearances in Chi cago. Pasting Br Bob Olin. Erstwhile ringman. Now a prosperous Manhattan restaurateurs. (U.S) Backstairs at the lummr; White House: Covering the White House or presidential campaigns some timet maltee newsmen used to working in odd settings, and President Eisenhower's work-and-play vacation is no exception. The President has moved around so much since first com ing to Colorado two weeks ago that the reporters have been working not all over the state but all over the country. Within the period of a few days, reporters assigned to the presidential "vacation" have set up shop temporarily in every thing from e chartered airliner to a tiny wooden railroad station or a mountain roadside tavern where the booths made ideal places to type. When One President was at Fraser, Colo., for a fishing so journ in the high Rockies, the little railroad station was con- verted into a crowded press room. The Chief Executive had hardly returned to Denver be fore he was off again for a 48 hour whirlwind trip east by air. Reporters found themselves writing in a chartered airliner and a few of them chosen by draw as "pool" reporters in the President's own plane, the Columbine. When the President landed at Bradley Field near Hartford, Conn., to confer with Eastern governors about the flood cris is, an Air National Guard hang ar suddenly became a busy press room for a couple of hours. The ext day at Philadelphia, where Mr. Eisenhower addressed the American Bar association, the reporters unlimbered their port able typewriters on' outdoor tables on the grounds of histor ic Independence Hall and work ed in the summer sun. Two days later, Mr. Eisenhow er was back at his fishing in the Rockies near the mountain ham let of Pine, Colo. The press corps set up for the day in a roadside tavern with the unlike ly name of "Bryn Mawr Inn." Since returning to Denver with the President last week, Mrs. Eisenhower has approach ed their vacation in almost direct ly opposite fashion to her hus band. Mr. Eisenhower rises early and retires early. But he ener getically packs his days with .work, golf, fishing, painting and traveling. The First Lady, on the other hand, has been taking it easy for the first few days". She has been resting a lot and visiting quietly with her mdther, Mrs. John S. Doud, in the comfort able grey-brick family home on elm-shaded Lafayette st. When Mrs. Eisenhower alight ed after the flight from Washing ton, she told friends she intend ed to "just sit on the front porch." Figurately, at least, that is what she's been doing. The President's newest limou sine, which he used in Philadel phia, combines the advantages of a convertible without the dan gers of standing up in an open car. The specially - built Chrysler has a panel in the top which slides back much like a "sky view" taxi-cab. The President merely stands up and can wave to the crowds over the top of the car. But the effect is odd-looking. As one reporter remarked, "He looks like he's coming out of a man-hole." One of the President's broth ers, Edgar Eisenhower, a Ta coma, Wash., attorney, got mixed up in Philadelphia over where he was supposed to ride in the presidential motorcade from the hotel to Independence hall. He tried to get into a big open touring car in which Secret Ser vice agents follow immediately behind the President's limousine. They quickly, but politely, bar red him, but just as quickly found him a seat in a car furth er back.
