I CD 0 0 Grange Griffin Creek Grange HEC will have a pot luck sup per at Mr. and Mrs. Jim Edge's at Eagle Point Thursday, Aug. q 18, at 7 p.m. Please bring own table service, well filled baskets and large appetite. Grange met last Thursday with a good attendance and Master Isabelle Le Vander pre siding. The agriculture committee re ported that the fruit harvest will start in some parts of the valley next week. There will be quite a large crop of pears this year, and will need many pickers. Hall committee reports that there is some work to be done on the hall. Former members of our Grange Mr. and Mrs. Joe Han son of Grants Pass lost their Ohome last week when it burned. HEC display table had beau tiful china from England, and table cloths from Japan. New officers elected to fill va cancies were Pearl Farnsworth for Aries; Pauline Kelly, Flora and Mark Slyter as gate keeper. The lecturers program was grr&p singing, home safety sug gestions and demonstration on artificial respiration. Safety slogans for finding sup per partners and a safety song by all. A reading by Isabelle LeVander. Mr. and Mrs. Farns worth and Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Larson served pie and. coffee. Shady Cot Grange Shady Cove Grange members met for their regular business meeting Aug. 10 with Master McKay conducting the meeting. Booster night was discussed, and as the school will be closed to all organizations for the rest of the month for the purpose of cleaning preparatory for the opening of the school year, plans were made to hold a potluck pic nic dinner at 7 p.m. Aug. 24 on the lawn at the home of Travis Littlefield on the river road. Chaplin Nellie Motchenbacher reported that Cecil Kee had just received word that his father, Charles R. Kee of Spokane, Wash., was seriously hurt when he fell while picking fruit. No further information had been heard at the time. H.E.C. Chairman Alice Cross reported the H.E.C. picnic din ner at Master and Mrs. McKays home, Aug. 9 was a success. Out of town visitor was Mrs. Gert rude Jory of Oakland, Calif., mother of Walter Cross. Others present were Agness Hubbell of Eale Point Grange, Lucy Eddington, H.E.C. chair man of Gold Hill, Nina Dusen berry also of Gold Hill and Mil lie Walker of Live Oak Grange. Men present for dinner were Walter Cross, Phil Motchen bacher, Grant Hubbell, Bob Bush and Master McKay, and the men enjoyed fishing in the river during the afternoon. Members welcomed Bettie Du senberry home from her vaca tion in the mountains for the most of the summer. During the lecture hour all members took part in various games prepared by Lecturer Vanderlip. After the closing of the meet ing, cake and coffee were served by Mr. and Mrs. Phil Motchen bacher. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Nyhoff and their three children from Port land visited most of last week with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Caster. Mrs. Caster is an aunt of Mrs. Nyhoff. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Caster are receiving congratulations on the birth of their baby boy born July 31. MSgt. Robert W. Loomis and family have been visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Loomis, and his sister and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Fisher. Sergeant Loomis is with the Air Force and he and his family are on their way to Puerto Rico, having been transferred there from the Spokane, Wash., Air Base. Mrs. Margaret Hoey has sold her home on Calhoun rd. to Dr. McGeary and family. She and her children are moving to the Shenandoah valley in Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Furry spent the first week of August on the North Umpqua river near Roseburg vacationing and fish ing. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Stancliffe joined them and spent the week end with them. They were also visited by Mr. and Mrs. Norvin Furry and son Bobby, of Rose burg, and Mr. and Mrs. Kyker and family of Medf ord. Miss Nannette Furry spent last week visiting her folks Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Furry. She and her mother spent the week at the summer home of the Furrys near Lake of the Woods. James Shafer and his bride of Phoenix, Ariz., are visiting with the Rev. and Mrs. Lee Shafer and family this week. He is a former Phoenix resident and a brother of Mr. Shafer. Press Turpin spent last week with relatives at Yoncalla, Ore., during his vacation week.
