C. after Hurricane Connie swept through. Damage mounted as winds up to 75 m.p.h. hit the town. On The Side By E. V. Durling (Distributed by King Futura Syndicate, Inc.) Note it said this year's song hits will top those of any year for the past quarter of a cen tury. Thafs covering much Tin Pan Alley territory. Young old timers will view the claim with interest. For the record, so you can check on said claim at the end of the year, the following were some of the song hits of 1930. "Five Feet Two, Eyes of Blue," "Always," "A Cup of Cof fee, a Sandwich and You," "Don't Bring Lulu," "If You Knew Susie Like I Know Susie," "Just a Cottage Small By the Waterfall," "Moonlight and Ros es," "Brown Eyes, Why Are You Blue?" "Valencia," "Remember," "Only a Rose," "Sometimes I'm Happy," "Who," "Yes Sir, That's My Baby," and "Why Do I Love You?" Large Families The saying "Fewer but better children," is fallacious. Innum erable great men have been members of large families. The following men were members of families of 10 or more children: oBeethoven, St. Francis Borgia; Napoleon Bonaparte, Salmon P. Chase, Benjamin Franklin, Wash ington Irving, John Marshall, Sir Walter Scott, Alfred Tenny son, Daniel Webster and Enrico Caruso. Asides There are only 539 genuine Stradivarius violins in the world and the location of every one is known to authorities on the subject . . . The discussion con tinues as to which beauty spells . her first name correctly, Arlene Dahl, Arleen Whelan or Arline Judge. Arline with an "i" is correct. Spelling it with an "e" or "ee" is the same as spelling - the old fashioned name of Alice with a "y" as in Alyce. Sidelights What became of cuckoo clocks? Haven't seen one in op erationQsince I "was a kid. Were once popular in Brooklyn . . . Vivien Leigh recently portrayed Lady Macbeth as a flaming red head by use of a special wig. Where in Shakespeare's "Mac beth" does it say Lady Macbeth was a redhead? - Asking Queries from clients. Q. What are "hushpuppies?" A. Corn none browned in the skil let. Is a southern dish. Cooks frequently tossed a batch to the hounds to keep them from bark ing. Hencthe name "hush pup pies" . . . Q. Saw it reported Gina Lollobrigida has a 17-inch waist. Looks larger than that to me. Please advise as to facts A. Signorina Lollobrigida's waist measurement is 22 ... Q. Where was the home John Howard Payne had in mind when he wrote "Home, Sweet Home?" A. Easthampton, L. I. Its still there. Lamb Stew What's the proper way to pre pare lamb stew? Why is it that iiyrestaurant lamb stew you nev er find (ny durtiplings? After all what is lamb stew without dumplings? . . . What's in a name? Well, sir, at times names suit situations remarkably well. For example, the new treasur er of the Los Angeles Turf Club is David MacTavish. Practically a perfect name for a treasurer. Over The Bridge Women Drivers Extensive checking on the situation reveals that women are better automobile drivers than men. In fact, 70 per cent of fem inine drivers can be properly called good drivers while only 30 per cent of male drivers can : be so rated. The reason is said to rSe the ever present urge for self improvement in the women. A woman can take criticism and profit by it. Too many men re sent criticism. They hate to be tCid what to do. Texas Again Texas is in again with some-' thing to top. A Beaumont sub-, scriber says she gave birth to i two children, single birth, in the I same year. And she was only 17 at the time. The children were born ten months and eight days apart, the first just after the mo ther's 17th birthday, the second just before her 18th birthday. Horses and Women Too many women wear clothes that are too tight. It is also re ported one of the major strug gles of the average female is get ting into a girdle. Tight clothes make a woman irritable and difficult to get along with. So husbands should interest them selves in this situation. The wo man should be made to fit the clothes, not vice versa. By that I mean, if a woman with a 28 inch waist wants to wear a 26 inch garment she should reduce her waist. If your wife is inclin ed to wear clothes that are too tight for her, put her on a diet and send her to a gymnasium a couple of times a week.
