Base, Long Island, N.Y., has announced that voluntary recall to extended active duty, in grade, is possible for Air Force Reserve Airmen in 176 different specialties, according to Capt. Donald P. Hemingway, AF liason officer. Airmen 1st class with four or more years service for pay purposes may be considered for recall, regardless of the number of dependants if otherwise qualified, Capt. Thomas Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Wiring . Burns Wiring in the engine of a car owned by G. L. Wood of Klamath Falls burn ed about 4:50 p.m. Saturday when the carburetor backfired. Medford firemen said damage was limited to wiring. The car was parked in the Safeway park ing lot at Fifth and Bartlett sts. To Meet The Townsend club auxiliary will meet at the C. E. Flue Fire Medford firemen were called to the residence of E. N. Stone, 628 West Second st., about 9:46 a.m. Saturday to ex tinguish a flue fire. No damage was reported. Purchase Store Mr. and Mrs. Klamath Falls, purchased the i Burgess Paint and Wallpaper store earlier this month and now operating the shop. They also were in the paint business in Klamath Falls. Firemen Called A fire truck was sent to the residence of W. C. Lewthold, 344 North Central ave., at about noon yesterday when an electrical stove shorted out. Firemen said damage was confined to wiring in the stove. A pumper truck was dispatched to the Medford public library at about 5:20 p.m. when a circuit breaker in the lighting system blew out, causing some sparks. The spokesman said the plant was built by Studebaker at New Brunswick but never put into operation. Volkswagon al ready has assembly plants . in Brazil, Belgium, Ireland and South Africa. The spokesman said 23,000 Americans are driving Volkswa gons and the company current ly exports 2500 of the four-passenger sedans to the United States monthly. (Shorty) Conrad, 80, who died Friday, will be held in Conger-Morris chapel Monday at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. D. E. Millard and Dr. JOHN T. CONRAD Longiime Resident Dies Jouett P. Bray officiating. Inter ment will' be in Siskiyou Me morial Park. Pallbearers will include J. Henry Ruch, Carl Fichtner, Max Hawks, Gordon Barker, and Sam Jennings. Mr. Conrad was born May 20, 1875, at Salina, Kas., and had lived in Medford since 1910. He was employed by the city of Medford water department for 40 years, retiring five years ago as assistant superintendent, a position he had held since 1931. Mr. Conrad yas married July 24, 1904, at Canyon City, Colo., to Emilie Sanders, who survives. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, the Pythian Sisters and the DOKK. Other survivors include two sons, Warren H., and Ernest C, Medford; two brothers: Leland Styles, Tacoma, Wash.; Warren Styles, Fairbanks, Alaska; a sis ter, Mrs. Nettie Beller, Burton, Wash.; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. European Churches Subject of Speaker Gerry Pence, a graduate of Medford High school, will give an audio-visual account of "The Church at Work in Europe," to day at 7:30 p.m., at the Church of the Brethren. He worked for two years in Europe as- a volunteer in the program of European relief done by the Church of the Brethren and he took the pictures -which he will show this evening. He also will show a series on churches in Europe which he photographed. Mr. and Mrs. Pence and their daughters, Christine and Dena are visiting for two weeks with his narents. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Pence, 101 Kenwood ave. He will teach music this year at Laton, Calif., public schools and Mrs. Pence will teach kinder garten there, and Pence also will do graduate work in music at Fresno State college. He is a La Verne college graduate. La Verne is a Brethren institu tion at Laverne, Calif. Lewiston, Me. (U.R) When a defendant was unable to pay a $10 fine for a misdemeanor, he was sent to jail. Prior to com ing to Medford, she had lived a number of years in Grants Pass, where she was a Past Noble Grand of Etna Rebekah lodge. At the time of her death she was a member of Olive Rebek ah lodge No. 28, Medford, mem bers of which will attend fun eral services. Roseburg Coop Gets $150,000 For Lines Washington (U.R) A $150, 000 loan has been granted the Douglas Electric Cooperative of Roseburg, Ore., for the construc tion of distribution lines, the Rural Electrification Admini stration announced Saturday. (U.R) Wheat moved downstream through McNary dam lock on the Columbia river hit an all time high in July, according to the Walla Walla District, Corps of Engineers. Approximately 22,219 tons of wheat were moved downstream, most of it to Portland and Van couver, Wash. Engineers said that downstream shipments equaled half of the volume of upstream shipments, for the first time in history.
