Dean and Jerry's long-smoul dering differences erupted three months ago when Jerry went to New Jersey for a premiere of their latest picture and Dean stayed home. But after Jerry returned to Hollywood the two separately approached Paramount and NBC, through lawyers and agents, to try to get out of the contracts. Buffalo Herd Hoped For Alaskan Island Astoria (U.R) Four buffalo, including a two-ton bull, are en route to a tiny Alaskan island along with 70 head of cattle where a big-game hunter hopes to build his own wild bison herd for hunting purposes. The unusual cargo was car ried aboard the converted mine sweeper, "Dragon," which sailed from Astoria late yesterday. It is destined for tiny Popoff Island, the domain of big-game hunter and guide Harold Nick les. Nickles said he intends to let the buffalo run wild on the island in the hope that they will multiply and furnish sport for himself and other hunters and guides. Nickles owns Popoff Island, which has a population of 75, mostly fishermen. The cattle will be raised for beef.
