The camp is designed for persons of all ages for recreation' and spiritual development. The camp is sponsored and paid for by the Siskiyou Baptist association and will be conduct ed Monday through Saturday morning. August 6. The morn ings will be devoted to Bible and mission classes; the after noons to games, hikes and swim ming, and the evenings to wor ship and fireside services. Those who wish to attend the camp should contact pastors of one of the following churches, Temple Baptist, Medford; Cal vary Baptist, Ashland, or First Baptist, Phoenix. Friends Conference To Open on Monday Christian Endeavors from Quaker churches throughout the state of Oregon and southern Washington will unite in the 38th annaul summer conference at Twin Rocks. Ore., beginning Monday and continuing through August 8. '"For Such a Time as This" will be the theme of the conclave expected to draw over 500 young Friends by the end of next week, it is announced here by L. Dell Lamb, Northwest Quaker promotional director. The Rev. Marshal Cavit. mis sionary of World Gospel Mission "on loan" to the Northwest Friends' Bolivian Aymaran In dians, will be the guest evange listic speaker for the conference, which will be open to the public. Presbyterians List Program for Sunday The Rev. John Reynolds will speak at both morning services in the First Presbyterian church on the subject. "What About our Religious Prosperity?" Music will include anthems by the Westminster and Chancel choirs. At the service at 7 p.m. a Fish er family film entitled, "The Jealous Heart," will be shown. Fireside will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert James, 1426 Euclid ave. Clothing, Other Items Needed for Navajo Indians A program entitled. "Giving," was presented Wednesday eve ning by Intermediate Girls auxil iary members of the Temple Baptist church when a party was held in connection with gather ing gifts to toe sent to Indians of the Navajo tribe. Mrs. Francis Gilchrist directed the program. The party theme was "Christ mas in July," and the gifts were placed under a trimmed tree. The tree will remain in the au ditorium through Sunday for others who wish to give items. Church officers point out that good used or new clothing is especially needed for adults and children. Other needed items are dolls and toys of various kinds and school supplies. The gifts will be shipped in time so that the children will receive them before school opens in Septem ber. Those who give are asked to label their gifts with informa tion as to ages of children and whether for boys or girls, men or women. The Women's Missionary un ion of the church will meet Tues day to mend used clothing. Vacation Church School To Open Vacation church school at the Church of the Brethren, at the corner of Mary and Saling sts., will begin Monday, August 1 and continue for two weeks, through August 12. The school hours are from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., each day. Worship and play, study and storytime will form the basis of each day"s program. Director of the school's kin dergarten department is Mrs. Harld Breazeale, assisted by Jean Wall. The primary depart ment, is headed by Mrs. Floyd Evernden, assisted by Phyllis Tompkins, and Delores Pool. Mrs. Charles Nelson and Mrs. Blanche Lininger will be co-di rectors of the junior division. On Friday, August 12 at 8 p.m. children of the school will hold open house. At that time they will demonstrate work of the school, and provide a program for their parents. The school is free and open to anyone desiring to attend. REVIVAL Ashland The Rev. and Mrs. Godwin, from Dallas, Tex., will begin a two-week revival at the Ashland Assembly of God church, 485 Siskiyou blvd. be ginning Sunday. Meetings will be held every night except Sat urday at 7:45 p.m. New Minister Accepts Centra! Point Puplit Central Point Paul O. Kroon of Cave. Junction has accepted the Community Bible church pas torate replecing Rolf Hansen, who is leaving Aug. 1 for Spo kane; Wash. Kroon will assume pastorate of the church here Sept. 1. and during August members of the congregation and special speak ers will have charge of worship services. Kron has been at Cave Junc tion three years. He is married and has four children. Hansen, who accepted a pastorate in Spo kane, will be honored at a fare well supper at the church tonight. CIO. Telephone Company Negotiate San Francisco (U.R) Nego tiations for a new contract be tween the Pacific Telephone Co. and 7600 members of the CIO Communications Workers of America were scheduled to begin today. The communications workers, who install and maintain tele phones and equipment in North ern California and Nevada, have asked for "a reasonable general wage increase." recognition of seniority in transfers and pro motions and a minimum pension payment of S100 over social se curity pensions. France (U.R) A group of Frejich cave explorers reported Thursday nieht that they had reached the world rec ord depth of 3.0o0 feet below the surface while groping along the reaches of an underground river. Anniversary Observances Scheduled at Camp White Camp White The Veterans administration has set aside Sun day. July 31. for special observance of the 10th anniversary of the chaplain service as it has functioned since the close of World War II. The 176 VA hospitals and homes will conduct supplement al observances and receive from Administrator Harvey V. Higley a recorded message that will be played over radio facilities and public address systems of each hospital and domiciliary, accord ing to an announcement of Chap lain Edward A. "The importance and value of Valley Delegates1 To Attend Session Among the nearly 2,000 dele gates who will attend a Seventh day Adventist layman's congress at Gladstone park. Gladstone, August 2 through 6 will be Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Jones. Mrs. Ella Stevenson and Mrs. Paul Pearce from the Medford Seventh-day Adventist church, and Mrs. El mer Fjarli, Mrs. Arthur Bisseg er, Mrs. Rueben Arnold and Harry Merriken from the Valley View Seventh - day Adventist church. This will be one of three con gresses attended by laymen from all parts of the United States and Canada. Others are scheduled for Kansas City, Mo., and Grand Ledge. Mich. Handicapped Persons Day To Be Observed The Sunday school hour Sun day, July 31, 10:30 a.m., at the Medford Church of the Naza rene, Holly and First sts., will feature observances to honor members of the home depart ment of the church. Especially honored will be the elderlv and infirm. Delegations plan to attend from Camp White, Chin-Up club and several rest homes in the Medford vicinity. Chairman for the day, Arnold Kornstad, has announced that favorite Bible verses and favor ite songs of the home department members will be featured. A tape recording will be made to be played back later to shut-ins not able to attend. A souvenir award will be given each shut-in who attends. Transportation will be provided those who call num bers 2-9459, 3-2611, or 2-6333. Speakers Slated at Central Point Church Central Point Mrs. Bertha Bursell and Dr. and Mrs. Bert R. Elliot, who were members of a Christian Herald tour of the Holy land last spring will tell of their trip at the Central Point Church of Christ on Wednesday, August 3, at 8 p.m. On the tour they visited all of the places which figured in the life of Christ. Mrs. Bursell, who is a mem ber of the Central Point Church of Christ, will tell of places visit ed during the trip, and her im pressions of it. Dr. and Mrs. El liot will show colored slides. The public is invited. the religious ministry of VA's chaplain service as a part of the total care and treatment of hos pital patients and domiciliary members will be the theme of our 10th anniversary observance next Sunday,'' Chaplain McDon ough said. The chaplain service has con tributed in no small measure to the morale and well being of members of this station. Man ager Eugene K. Ricker empha sized in making public plans for this special event in the VA cal endar. During the 61 years Camp White has been operating as a VA installation there have been five chaplains in the service here. Pastorsfamed They have been Father John Cummisky, succeeded by Father Lawrence Eskay in January, 1954. representing the Roman Catholic faith, and Rev. Henry Anderson, now at Vancouver, the Rev. Perry Johnson, of Med ford, part-time chaplain, and the present Protestant chaplain, the Rev. Samuel Feller, transferred last May from Roscburg VA hos pital. , In addition to this resident service, visits are scheduled for Chaplain Philip Kleinman, of Portland, representing the Jew ish Welfare board, who holds a quarterly congregation, and Fred G. Morris, of the First Church of Christ Scientist. Medford. whose services are held each Monday evening. Present Head Monsignor McDonough, pres ent head of 1he VA chaplains, is the third director of the-, service and has held the post five years. Chaplain Crawford W. Brown, who served from 1945 to 1947., an Episcopalian, was the first. He w-as succeeded by the late Chap lain Alexander J. McKelway, a Presbyterian, who served from 1947 to 1950. Chaplain McDonough visited Camp White in 1953. He is a na tive of Boston, Mass. "Of the chaplains in the VA chaplain service, only a few are not veterans of World War I, World War II, or of the Korean I conflict. She is here to attend a friend's wedding and will re turn to Mexico in a week. GENERALS LEAVE SEOUL Seoul, Korea (U.R) Gen. Lyman L. Lenmilzcr and Gen. I?aac D. White, the two top U.S Army commanders in the Far East, fly back to Tokyo today after a whirlwind three-day visit that helped move Far East Army headquarters to Seoul from JaDan. Wyatt Criticizes Morse, Neuberger Astoria (U.R) Wendell Wyatt, Republican State Central Com mittee chairman, today criticiz ed Oregon Senators Wayne Morse and Richard Neuberger for the postponement of Congres sional hearings on the John Day Dam bill. Wyatt labelled the postpone ment "a tragedy hindering the industrial development of Ore gon and the Pacific Northwest." He said objections to the bill by the two Oregon Democratic sen ators were "largely responsible" for cancellation of the hearing on the measure. The John Day Dam bill was sponsored by Rep. Sam Coon (R Ore.). Hearings on the measure were postponed until next year by the House Public Works sub committee after objections were filed .against it. 29 YEARS LATE St. John, N. D. (U.R) Mrs. Charles King chose matrimony in 1926 instead of graduating from high school. But she vowed some day to finish her education. Mother of three sons and three daughters and a grandmother she received her diploma along with eight other graduates here this year. LONG RUN Edinburg. Tex. (U.R) Edin burg Fire Chief Elbert Sanders claims to have made the longest fire run in the world. Sanders was driving to a firemen's con vention in Carthage. Tex. more than 500 miles from Edinburg when he noticed a night-time blaze at a filling station. Sanders woke up the owner and helped him put out the fire.
