TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Wednesday. July 27. 1955 Dress Rehearsals For Festival Open Beginning Tonight Ashland Open dress re hearsals for the Shakespeare festival begin in the festival the ater tonight with "A Midsummer Night's Dream." The rehearsals, beginning at 8 p.m., use full costuming and all music and lighting effects that will be used in the shows. Two people may be admitted to the theater during dress re hearsals on each season mem bership. Besides membership holders, the only people allowed in the theater for the next four nights will be out-of-towners who cannot be here for the shows, and members of the Stanford university field course in Shake speare, taught by Dr. Margery Bailey. "Macbeth" will rehearse Thursday night. "All's Well That Ends Well' Friday, and "Henry VI, part 3" Saturday. The season begins on Monday and rehear sals have been scheduled so that hardworking cast members and technicians will have Sunday off. Dress rehearsals for the season's fifth play, "Timon of Athens, will begin after August 1. Beginning tonight, the theater box office will be open in the evenings from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Membership sales close on July 30, and only single admissions will be available after that date. Memberships and single tickets are on sale daily except Sunday at the theater box office and in the branch box office in the lobby of the First National bank in Medford. Camp White Club Announces Winners For Last Meeting Camp White Mrs. Frank R. Baker and Roy Pruitt scored 107'2 points to lead north-south players for the last meeting of Camp White Veterans Bridge club. Mrs. J. P. Vachon and Marion Milne topped this when they scored 115 points in the cast-wast position. Other north -south winners were Mrs. H. J. Boyd and John Solheim who tied with the Al Gilhousens for second and third places, each pair scoring 102M points. Mrs. George Rode and Mrs. W. W. Stevenson were fourth with 94'i points. Additional east-west winners were Mrs. Josephine Clark and John Sharp, second, 105 points: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Clark, third, 99 and Valentine Fohs and Burton Sims, fourth, 93. Society and Clubs Talk Slated By Indian Chieftain White Feather, a grandson of the famous Indian leader. Sitting Bull, will speak in Medford Monday, August 1. under the auspices of Medford Council of Church Women. The meeting place will be announce later, according to Mrs. J. C. Sparks, council president. A study of the welfare of In dians in this country is on the agenda for the Oregon Council of Church Women, and the nec essity for this has been height ened by the recent decision of the federal government to ter minate federal control of some of the Indians, it is statf d. Those interested in Indian affairs are fearful that many of the Indians will be exploited by unscrupu lous persons when supervision ceases. The speaker, whose formal name is Dr. T. Ramar S. Bull, is a graduate of Friends univer sity. Wichita. Kan., and has also studied at Shelton college and Columbia university. In early life he pursued a musical ca reer under the guidance of the famous Walter Damrosch. and later turned to religious work and missionary work among In dians of various tribes. Anyone interested in learning more about current Indian af fairs in this country is invited to attend. Sojourners Club To Meet Thursday Medford Sojourners' club will meet Thursday. July 28. at 1 p.m. at the Medford hotel. Bridge, pinochle and canasta will be played. Hostesses will be Mrs. J. E. Westlund, Mrs. Marvin Nelson and Mrs. Wilson Bjorge. All women who have lived in Medford or the vicinity for not more than two years are cordial ly invited to attend and to be come members, the organization states. 4 Card Party Knights of Pythias plan a pub lic card party Saturday, July 30. at 8 p.m. in the Pythian build ing. Extension Agent Granted Leave; Name Successor Miss Eula Wintermote, home extension agent for Jackson county, who will study this com ing year at Colorado A and M college, will be temporarily re placed by Mrs. Joanne Weather ford as acting agent according to an announcement by F. L. Ball ard, associate director of ex tension service at Oregon State college. Miss Wintermote has been granted sabbatical leave from September 1, 1955, to August 31, 1956, and will study towards a master's degree, it was stated. Mrs. Weatherford is a gradu ate of Northwest Nazarene col lege, Nampa, Ida., where she re ceived a degree in home econom ics in 1949. She has since taught high school economics for four years at Kuna, Ida. The new agent has also taught home eco nomics in adult vocational edu cation and has experience in 4H club work. The appointment is subject to approval by the state board of higher education, and is to be come effective August 8. Mrs. Weatherford is the wife of Ron Weatherford, who will be on the staff of the new Jeffer son school here as teacher of physical education, health and social studies, and athletic coach. He is a son of the Rev. and Mrs. Fred M. Weatherford and lived in Medford while his father was pastor of the Church of the Nazarene here. The Weatherfords are living at 215 North Ivy street. Family Gathers In Medford Home Phoenix A number of Phoe nix residents attended a family gathering held last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Newman Caster, 1509 Terrace drive, Med ford. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Irving Hanscom and son, Danny; Mrs. Lou Fitch, Ashland: Mrs. Emma Roberts. Phoenix; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Sauer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lauren Sauer and family, Mrs. Donna Evans and daughter, Linda, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Maddox and family, all of Medford, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hanscom and son, Donny, of Phoenix, Alfred Sauer of Med ford, and the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Caster. Alfred Sauer, 76, and father and grandfather of the other family members, particularly en joyed the event. Movies were shown and refreshments ' were served.
