Middlecoff Sets Out in PGA Quest By LEO H. PETERSEN United Press Sports Editor Northville, Mich. Al though he doesn't have to quali fy, he will tee off with 133 oth ers in today's first of two 18- hole aualifying rounds. Most of the pros are familiar with Meadowbrook and the course has been especially easy for Middlecoff. who won two Motor City opens over it. Alex Walsh, an attorney play ing on his home Rockford Coun try Club course, led the field after 36 holes with a four-under- par 71-67138. The bulky 164-man field was trimmed to the low 90 scorers for today's third 18-hole medal round. Another 18 holes Thurs day will determine the low eight who will begin match play Fri day. Albright, 216, Los Angeles, and Hall, 196, Chicago, tangled in a featured heavyweight bout at Civic Auditorium here last night and came out even. Steaming Left Hall, a more experienced ring- man, used a steaming left hook to great advantage in the early going and had the heavier Al bright virtually out on his feet , at the end of the sixth. But Albright weathered the storm and came on to take charge in the final rounds to earn the draw.
