Farley, route 2, box 18, Jacksonville, left today for Bakersfield, Calif., where he was called by the un expected death July 13 of a brother, Dewey Farley, 54. Bicycle Taken Ronald Joseph Schaecher, 1129 rfakota ave., re ported theft of his bicycle from Hawthorn park to city police yesterday. The bike was report edly taken between 1 and 4 p.m., police said. At Sacred Heart W. E. Holmes, Route 1, and John C. Malone, 132 South Oakdale ave., are listed today as medical pa tients at Sacred Heart hospital. Marshall Bessonette, Box 622, Medford, and Janice Wadley, Ashland, are there for surgery. To Convention Mr. and Mrs. Anthony R. Manno, Acme Hard ware Co., are attending the Na tional Retail Hardware associa tion convention in Buffalo, New York. After the convention, they will be guests of the Ohio Hardware association for a five day tour of Canada. Return Home Mr. and Mrs. K. B. Teeter and family, 1202 East Main St., returned home re cently ater a week-long vaca tion at Seaside, Ore. The family visited friends in Hood River and detoured to Crater Lake on the return trip. Returns Mrs. Ethel Walker arrived this week from Eugene to live in Medford. She is a former resident of the vicinity and will operate the Pancacke house restaurant at Phoenix. She operated similar businesses in the area before going to Eu gene. At Community Mrs. Malcolm Johnston, 1017 Alta st., and Lyle Houston, 10, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lindsay Houston, route 2, box 284, Gold Hill, are surgery pa tients at Community hospital.at tendants said today. Mrs. C. A. Meyers, 315 Orange st., was dis missed for her home after being there for treatment of a hip injury received some time ago. Autos Collide Cars driven by William McKinley Driver, route 3, box 370, Medford, and Nettie Jane Wheeler, 1013 North Cen tral ave., collided yesterday at the intersection of Highway 99 and Stewart ave., according to the City police department. Po lice issued a citation to Wheeler for failure to yield the right-of-way; it was reported. Scout Exams Girl Scouts who will attend the next session of camping at Low Echo are re minded by scout officers of phy sical checkups which will be needed by those who attend the session. The checkups for this group will be given today at.7:30 p.m., in Room 321 at the Medical Center building. Registration forms will be required. Employees Picnic Members of two Oregon State Employees association chapters will picnic Sunday, July 17, at TouVelle state park on Rogue river. The chapters are Grants Pass and Crater Lake of Medford. Pot luck dinner, will be at 1 p.m. Chapters will furnish ice cream, coffee and cold drinks.. All state employees are invited. To Hold Convocation The BoyaP Arch Masons will hold their, annual outdoor special con vocation Saturday, July 16, at the Thompson Creek forest serv ice park. On the agenda will be registration at 4 p.m., a no host dinner at 6 p.m., and presen tation and conferring of the Royal Arch degrse at 8 p.m. All RAMs are invited. A Royal Arch "widows' picnic will be held at the home of Mrs. Merlyn Bor ough, 1626 Myers Lane for the wives of those attending. . Grass Fires Grass fires in three areas of the rural district yesterday were extinguished by Medford firemen. One was about 5:20 p.m. along Biddle rd. in the 500 block. The rural pumper went from there to a spot near the old golf driving range in the airport vicinity where -about one-half acre was burned off. The small utility truck had al ready been sent to the scene. Firemen said that burning ma terial thrown from a car ap parently started both blazes. In the morning a grass and trash fire was put out on the fair grounds area which had been occupied by West Coast shows. Five gasoline spills from cars were flushed in downtown Med ford yesterday. Din ner will begin at 7 p.m., and members may go swimming be forehand if they wish. The club will furnish coffee and soft drinks. A dance will be held afterwards at the Upper Rogue Grange hall. DAV Service Schedule Pat Graham, Disabled American Vet erans service officer, is still tem porarily employed with the U. S. Forest service and for an indef inite period is discontinuing regularly scheduled service trips, he said today. Kendall Middleton, who is stationed in Austria with the Army, is now in this coun try participating in rifle shoots as a member of a rifle team made up of other Army men also from Austria. Sergeant Middleton, a brother of Mrs. Wil liam M. McAllister, 2615 Hill- crest rd., has been stationed for some time in Austria and re cently won second place in a rifle . shooting contest of U.S. troops of that area. He then be came a member of the team that was formed of the top men and was sent to this country to par ticipate in the present contests. He attended Medford . schools and has made his home with the McAllisters. IN TRAINING Army Pvt. David J. Sletten, whose wife. Janet, lives in Phoe nix, is receiving training as a member of the 2nd Infantry di vision at Ft. Lewis. Wash.- Pvt, Sletten is a truck driver in Bat tery A of the division's 15th field artillery battalion. Gold Hill Youngsters To Use Bus for Lessons Gold Hill Transportation will be furnished Gold Hill chil dren who wish to take Red Cross swimming lessons at Hawthorne park in Medford. The bus will leave Gold Hill grade school starting Monday, July 18, at 8 a.m. and will return at noon. Children are to register this week for the lessons. The cost will be $2 for 10 lessons. Each child is to furnish a towel and Phil Sanders of Medford and a swim suit. Instructors will be John Smock, faculty member of Crater High school. SLACKS DECEIVING - . Passaic, N. J. Croteou, a Medford resident for the past 38 years, who died to day, are pending at Perl funeral home. . CHARLES HARRIS Funeral services for Charles Cummings Harris, 52, who died Wednesday, will be held in Con-1 ger-Morris chapel Monday at 10 a.nr. with the Rev. H. A. Dier dorff officiating. Committal will be in Central Point cemetery.: Pallbearers will be Richard Larson, Frank Josephson, Au gust Sukow, Henry Guss, James Guss and Stephen. Harris. . The deceased was born Oct. 7, 1902, in Kelso, Ore., and had lived in. Central Point since 1949. He was married on Feb. 29, 1928, at Astoria, to Florence Lengel, who survives. ' Other survivors include a son, Charles F., Central Point; two daughters, Mrs. Leon Guss, Med ford, and Mrs. Carl Mays, Albu querque,. N.M.; two brothers, Clarence and Burt Astoria, Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Ray Close, Seaside, Ore.; Mrs. Louise Crump, Warrenton, Ore.; and Mrs. Monica Truman, Astoria. Hull, Ray Guches, Ike Dunford and Lester Wilcox. The deceased was born Feb. 2, 1859, on the Lacy donation land claim which was 'located between Stewart ave., and South Stage rd. Her parents, the late John S. and Sarah Lacy, came to the valley from Iowa in 1852. On May 7, 1879, in Jacksonville, she was married- to Jacob S. Walz, who at that time deeded to her the site of their home, 3045 Bellinger Lane, where she lived until her death. Her hus band died in 1912. Survivors include a son, Er nest, and two daughters, Lottie and Amy, all at home. Police Receive Request To Aid Locate Man Here Medford police today received an appeal from Mrs. L. C. Con ner of Jena, La., for aid in lo cating her husband, L. C. Con ner. Conner is believed to be in the Medford area and has work ed for Bear Creek Orchard in the past, police said. He is re ported to be driving a 1941 model car with Louisiana license plates. Anyone knowing of his whereabouts is requested to call city police. NUDIST CAMPS ILLEGAL Raleigh, N.
