Medford Lions Club Installs Officers At Dinner Meeting Alva Perkins, manager of the Consolidated Freightways here, was installed as president of the Medford Lions club at a meeting held at the Tally-Ho Inn, South Pacific highway, last week. Other officers Installed were Dr. W'C. Albrant, first vice president; Kenneth Campbell, second vice-president; Lee Knox, secretary-treasurer; Paul Smith, lion tamer; Nick Gier, - tail twister; and directors Art Hardy, Jim McGoodwin, Don Minkler and Oscar Gage. Wil liam Miller, Coos Bay, district governor for - Lions Interna tional, conducted the ceremony of installation. A plaque was presented to the club in recognition of its but standing service during the past year by Alwin Miller, Ashland, former-zone chairman. ... New Zone Chairman Robert Dames, Medford attor ney, and outgoing president of ;the club, received the appoint ment as zone chairman. The of fice is for supervising and co ordinating club activities ana functions for half of the Lions clubs which are located in Jack 0 son county.' Officers for the auxiliary of the club were installed during the dinner-meeting. They were Mrs. Alan Jewett, president; Mrs. Joe Patella, vice-president; (Mrs. Joe Tomjack, secretary; Mrs. Allan Cameron, treasurer; and Mrs. Robert Dyer, lion O trainer. Mrs. Dan Dwyer, auxili ary historian for Oregon took charge of the installation. Mrs. Don Minkler and Mrs. Kenneth Campbell assisted as pages. Police Department Clears 58 Per Cent Of Major Offenses The Medford police depart ment cleared 58 per cent of. the major offenses reported in the city last month, according to the monthly report of the depart ment. Of the 45 major offenses re ported, 26 were cleared. In June of last year, 43 major of ' fenses were reported, with 15, or 35. per cent, closed. . . The department cleared 97 per cent of all major and miscellan eous crimes committed in June. There were 1,824 cases reported and 1,771 were cleared. During the same month last year there were 1,595 offenses, . of which 96 per cent were cleared. 34 Casualties . Casualties, including ; motor vehicle, accidents sick cared for, dog bites, andi miscellaneous ac cidents, numbered 34. . During Jhe month, the police department made 118 money es corts, 386 vacation house checks, issued 111 bicycle licenses, checked 384 open windows and 81 doors, checked 201 night lights that were 'out, and did other miscellaneous work total ing 1,433 services. Medford police issued 286 ci tations, including 70 basic rule violations, 55 cases of parking in a two hour zone, 22 cases of all night parking, 35 cases of not stopping at a light . or sign, 15 cases of people driving with no operator's license,' and other 89 minor infractions.
