E:X MZDFOHD (OMEOOH) MAIL TRIBUNE Wednesday, June 29, 195S 'Fight Against Fear Group In Chicago Aids Members to Lose Nervousness, Tensions By ALFRED LEECH United Prats Corrotpondont Chicago (U.R) A young housewife cleared her throat with a trace of nervousness and told the group she was worried about "things I know I can't change, anyway." A young man in a sports shirt arose and said he is troubled by anxiety over his forthcoming marriage. "I'm not afraid," he said. "Just anxious." Members of the group laughed and so did he. It was the weekly meeting of a group know as "Fight Against , Fear," composed of mental pa tients. Some are under treatment while others have "graduated", and no longer require therapy. But they've found a common bond in their fight against fears and frustrations, and they have learned to help each other. The meeting was held at the Oak Park Neuro-Psychiatric clinic operated by Dr. Melvin Blaurock. It was strictly infor mal. One pretty brunette wore slacks and most of the men wore short sleeved sports shirts. Young Group There were about 35 persons present, from various walks of life. Most were fairly young, in their late 20's or early 30's. The topic for discussion was "worry." A woman in a blue-and-white striped blouse called on other members for their com ments or experiences. A blonde woman ventured that the best way to avoid worry is to "trust in God." A suburban housewife named Helen said she worries about "how people feel toward me." A man named Jack said he tries to overcome worry "by meeting my problems head on." One woman had been hospit alized recently with a "break down" and had returned to work only the day before. She was worried because she had forgot ten some details of her job. "But I've decided if I can't remember something, I'll just ask somebody," she said. "If they think it's strange, I just can't help it." How To Accept People The talk switched to what the group meant to individual mem bers. One woman said she was learning to "accept people as they are." "Maybe I won't always be walking a tight rope," she said of her own tensions. A man in his late 40's said the group had taught him there were others with similar emotion problems, "and that makes me feel less lost and helps me stay on an even keel." The meeting was adjourned and the members flocked to the corner soda fountain for refresh ment and conversation. Joyce, a pretty, red-haired of fice worker, said the group is "more or less a social affair, with picnics, square dancing and that sort of thing." "But the group therapy part of it has helped a lot of us," she said. "You probably noticed the things we were talking about to night weren't our problems alone. They're everybody's prob lems. "Only some of us get thrown by them." Menon Says India Friendly to Both China, America Local CAP Cadet Receives Certificate Cadet Terry Krinock of the Medford squadron, Civil Air pa trol, received a certificate of proficiency at the CAP summer encampment at the Portland In ternational airport June 25. Ca- det Krinock was one of 47 earn ing such certificates. It is the highest scholastic award given cadets of the CAP. Besides Krinock, Cadets Ken neth Potucek and Mary Daniels attended the camp from here, returning by C-45 aircraft last Sunday. While there they in spected base aircraft and put in flight time in a C-124 Globe-master. Zsa Zsa Tosses Big Party for 10 Most Eligible Bachelors Hollywood (U.R) Zsa Zsa Gabor tossed the dream party of the year last night for only herself and the 10 most eligible bachelors in Hollywood, with out one movie actor in the lot. The blonde actress, through such inspiration known only to the femme fatale from Hungary, picked who she thinks are the most attractive men on the loose and invited them out to dinner. No Actors But the Rock Hudsons and Marlon Brandos were left at home. "Actors all want to be prima donnas," trilled Zsa Zsa. "One in the party is enough. Every thing an actor does is rehearsed." Most of the men were not young, either. Zsa Zsa thinks "older men are so interesting." The 10 patient men who shared -on beautiful date were antique dealer Thomas Ingersoll, attorney Franklin Lane, attor ney Edward Bosbyshell, fashion designer Jax Hanson, contractor Hal Hayes, architect John Lind say, composer Nacio Herb Brown, composer Nicholas; Brodsky, pilot Speed Chandler, and insurance man Alfredo de la Vega. Chair for Ruby An empty chair was left for the hostess current love, Por- firio Rubirosa, whom she joins in Paris Tuesday. Zsa Zsa explained she gave the dinner "because I thought it would be fun, and who knows how much longer I'll be a bache lor girl and able to do this." 'Go-Ahead' Given on New Building at SOC Ashland Southern Oregon college Business Manager Don Lewis has announced that Arch itect Robert Keeney, Medford, has been given the "go ahead" on final plans for remodelling the present physical education building at SOC, Memorial court, into a Student Union building. It will be financed in the main from funds left the college in the will of the' Britt family of Jack sonville. A snack bar, bookstore, faculty and student lounges, stu dent offices as well as several classrooms will be housed in the Student Union building. Whittier, Calif. (U.R) India's United Nations delegate V. K. Krishna Menon said last night his country was 'friendly to both China and the United States" and would like to think its "mo tives are not suspect by either side." Krishna Menon spoke before 2000 persons attending the In stitute of International Relations at Whittier college sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee.
