Soderlund (Edris Morrison Studio) Portland Church Scene of Soderlund -Sparling Rites From Portland comes news of the wedding of Miss Donna Kay Sparling of that city and Peter G. Soderlund, Medford, on June 19 at St. Michael's and All Angel's Episcopal church. The Rev. George R. Turney officiated The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sparling of Portland and Moro, Ore., and the bridegroom's mother is Mrs. Marjorie Soderlund, 215 North Peach street. Mrs. Soderlund was in Portland to attend the wedding. Mr. Soderlund and his bride will live at San Marcos, Tex., where he is assigned to duty with the United States Air Force as an airman. The bride wore a gown of white Chantilly lace with train and a coronet held her finger-tip veil. She carried a bouquet of pale pink roses centered with a white orchid. Miss Vivette Lee Sparling, sis ter of the bride, was maid of honor. She and the bridesmaids wore pink pleated ballerina length gowns with bouffant skirts over crinoline, and deep pink sashes, pink caps and shoes. They carried nosegays of pink carnations, sweet peas and bou vardia. Bridesmaids and matron were Miss Ardyth Germeroth of Hillsboro, Miss Mary Ann Lu bick, Portland; Miss Joy Fielder, Fortuna, Calif.; Miss Yvonne Carson, Junction City, and Mrs. W. B. Eshelman, San Pedro, Calif. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Loren Soder lund, Medford, and ushers were W. B. Eshelman, San Pedro, and Clifford Cain, Bruce Ryan, Da vid Bourquin and Robert De Groot, all Medford. Junior attendants were Linda Christiansen and Stephen Nor ton. Mrs. Henry Norton, aunt of the bride, was soloist. The reception was held in the Parish hall of the church, with more than 200 guests attending. Pouring and serving were Mes dames Fred Hennagin, A. B. Christiansen, Bon Christianson, Arthur Justesen, A. B. Damon and C. L. Powell. The bride was graduated from, Oregon State college, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, and taught last year in Ashland Senior High school. Mr. Soderlund, a gradu ate of Medford High school and Southern Oregon college, . was president of the SOC student body for two years. He is a mem ber of Theta Delta Phi, scholastic honor society, and served as chairman of the model UN dele gation of SOC one year. Family Visits At Braley Home ' Mrs. Gerald Casey and three children, Kathleen, Kavin and Monica, are guests in Medford of Mrs. and Mrs. C. Rease Braley, 245 Valley View drive. Mrs. Casey, who is Mrs. Braley's daughter, and the children will leave "soon for Managua, Nicar agua, to join Mr. Casey who has taken a position there with an importing firm. Arriving soon for a 10-day visit with the Braleys will be Mr. Braley's son, Lt. Charles Braley, his wife and two chil dren, Elizabeth Prince and Charles Braley III, Palo Alto, Calif. Lieutenant Braley, a Navy officer, is currently enrolled at Stanford university for special courses. Guild Members Attend Session Mrs. C. R. Adamson and Mrs. Lionel H. Guy, both of Medford, and Mrs. Everett Faber, Central Point, left last week for Salt Lake City, Utah, where they are attending a national meeting of Wesleyan Service guilds. Mrs. Faber is a western jurisdiction officer and Mrs. Adamson is a district officer, while Mrs. Guy is president of the local guild. McBeth whose wedding was an event of June 11 at Reno, Nev. The bride is the former Miss Eugena L. Merritt, daught er of Mrs. McDonough, and P. C. Merritt of Monterey . Park, Calif. The bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. McBeth, of Jacksonville. The reception was held in the gardens at the McDonough home and about 100 persons attended. A buffet lunch and wedding cake and punch were served. Mr. and Mrs. McDonough ac companied the couple to Reno and were attendants for the double ring ceremony which was held at 3 o'clock in the after noon at the First Methodist church. The bride wore a white knit suit and pink accessories. The couple made their wed ding trip to Lake Tahoe and Sacramento, Calif. The bride attended Jackson ville high school and the Med ford Business college, and the bridegroom attended Central Point High school. He received his discharge last December af ter serving for four years in the Navy, mainly on the USS Hele na. The couple is living at Days Creek where the bridegroom is self-employed as a logger. Mrs. Tom Ginn New President Of Local Group The last meeting for the sum mer of the 8 and 40, fun and honor organization of the Amer ican Legion auxiliary, was pre ceded by a potluck dinner in honor of the retiring Le petit chapeau, Mrs. Tom Freed. Installation of officers was held and those installed were le petit chapeau, Mrs. Tom Ginn; le petit demi chapeau premiere, Mrs. Dorothy Sutter; le petit demi chapeau deuxieme, Mrs. Nettie Ellenberg; la secretaire and la caissiere, Mrs. Amel Paul; l'aumonier, Mrs. Herb Gold smith; l'archiviste, Mrs. Lillian Capsey; la concierge, Mrs. Clark Walker; and l'avocate, Mrs. H. J. Meiring. Mrs. Ginn then announced her chairman as follows: Child wel fare, Mrs. Earl Bigalow; finance, Mrs. Charles Wiley; partnership, Mrs. Leo Williams, constitution and by-laws, Mrs. Leon Haskins; ritual and emblems, Mrs. Wal ker; trophies and awards, Mrs. Capsey; .publicity, Mrs. Ross Minneci and remembrance, Mrs. Freed. ' Delegates elected to attend the grand marche to be held in Red mond July 26-27 were Mrs. Freed, Mrs. Bigalow, Mrs. Wil liams and Mrs. Herb Gifford. - University Choir To Sing Monday At Zion Church An unexpected opportunity for valley residents to attend a concert Monday, June 27, of the Chapel a cappella choir of Cap ital university of Columbus, O., has been made possible through an unscheduled appearance here of the group while on tour of the country, the Rev. G. H. Hil- lerman of the Zion Lutheran church, announced last week. The group is made up of 40 voices, both university men and women, and the concert will be held Monday at 8 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran church at Fourth street and Oakdale avenue. The public is invited. Members of several other Medford churches aret housing the members of the choir in their unplanned visit and are co operating otherwisein welcom ing the organization to the city. A critic for the Christian Science Monitor of Boston wrote of the singers, "Astonish ing mastery of styles encompass ing the music of many lands and peoples." The Chicago Tribune published, "That most excel lent Chapel choir left nothing to be desired." A Boston Herald critic wrote, "Rrefreshing vigor, attacks and releases keen, fabric of sound, transparent." UN Reporter To Visit City Mrs. Ruth Gage-Colby, cor respondent with the United Na tions, will visit Medford, July 8 under the sponsorship of Med ford chapter, United Nations as sociation. It is announced that Mrs. Gage Colby will speak and meet in formally with valley residents interested in United Nations. An nouncement of the meeting place will be made soon. Mrs. Gage-Colby formerly was an official of UNICEF, the Unit ed Nations agency dealing with the welfare of children. The auxiliary to the Crater Lake post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will meet Tues day, July 5, at 8 p.m., at the VFW hall, 42 North Front street. . . . - - - i Miss Joanne Lee Orton. Becomes Bride Of Jack Davis Henry in Church Service A ceremony at First Methodist church in Medford Sunday, June 12, at 5 o'clock wedded Miss Joanne Lee Orton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Orton of Walker, Minn., and Jack Davis Henry, son of Mrs. J. T. Welch, of Glide, and J. D. Henry, of Home Rites Wed La Rene Couts, Glenn Johnson Gold Hill Miss La Rene Elaine Couts, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Couts, Miracle Springs, Gold Hill, became the bride June 13 of Glenn Le Roy Johnson of Shady Cove. He is a son of Mrs. Madge Johnson, San Bernardino, Calif. The ceremony was held at the Couts home. The bride's gown was yellow trimmed with lace. She wore a headdress of white carnations with yellow frill and her acces sories were white. Her bouquet was of yellow rosebuds and white carnations. Mr. Couts gave his daughter in marriage. Mrs. Budd Morgan of Gold Hill was the honor attendant. Her afternoon dress of blue was worn with white accessories, she carried a bouquet of laven der and white canterbury bells. The Rev. D. E. Millard per formed the ceremony and he and Mrs. Millard furnished the wed ding music. Floral arrangements were done by Mrs. Alice Michael of Sams Valley. The bride and bridegroom made the first cut of the wedding cake during the reception and serving was continued by Mrs. Couts. Mr. Couts served the punch and Mrs. Morgan had charge of the bride's book. The bride is a junior student at Crater High school and the bridegroom is employed by Al bert E. Anderson, Eagle Point as a logger. He attended schools at San Bernardino and Eagle Point. - Combest-Joanis Rites Are Held. In Reno Church Among recent weddings was that of Mrs. Alice Joanis, Talent, to Russell Combest, Ashland, which took place June 6 in Reno, Nev. The Rev. John Thomas of First Methodist church in Reno performed the single-ring cere mony. For the ceremony the bride wore a two-pjce ensemble of toast brown and white with pink accessories and corsage. Mr. and Mrs. Combest are liv ing at 585 Terrace street, Ash land. The bride is an invoice clerk for DeVoe Sales, Inc., Med ford, and the bridegroom is en gaged in the lumber business. Herb Society Rogue Valley Herb society will meet at 1:30 p.m., June 28, at Girls Community Club. The morning laboratory on potpourri has been postponed. Los Angeles. Dr. Raymond Bal comb performed the double-ring ceremony in a setting of white gladioli, chrysanthemums and cathedral candles. The bride wore a gown of white nylon net fashioned waltz length and with a jacket of Chan tilly lace. Her fingertip veil was of illusion and she carried white roses and stephanotis. Miss Shirley Orton, Monterey, Calif., was maid of honor for her sister and wore a waltz-length gown of copper colored sheer nylon and carried gold chrysan themums. Bill Anderson of Marcola, Ore. was best man and Britton Weaver and Kenneth Calhoun of Myrtle Creek were ushers. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Orton wore a two-piece green faille ensemble with white accessories and a corsage of yel low roses. The bridegroom's mother wore a champagne faille jacket dress with pink acces sories and a corsage of pink roses. A reception followed for the family and out-of-town guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne Mitchell. The serving table was covered with a white linen, hand-embroidered antique cloth. Pink roses floated in a crystal bowl for the centerpiece. The wedding cake was served by Miss Shirley Orton and Mrs. Darrell Maher, Corvallis, Ore., sisters of the bride. Mrs. Forrest Losee, of Idleyld Park, cousin of the bridegroom, poured and Mrs. Elton Jackson, aunt of the bride groom, served punch. The bride was graduated from Bemedji State Teachers college in Minnesota and has been teach ing in Medford Junior High school. The bridegroom is at tending Southern Oregon college at Ashland. He completed a four- year term in the Air Force,' three of which were spent in Germany, and attended high school in Klamath Falls prior to entering the service. The newlyweds will live In Medford. Compton, David and Carolyn Jackson and Miss Mary Becken, all of Roseburg; Mrs. J. D. Henry and Edwin, Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Ed win were guests while here of Mrs. Henry's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Case- beer, 1012 Winchester avenue. R. Burk of Salem. The district judge at Reno read the rites at 8:40 o'clock in the eve ning at the Washoe county courthouse. Ten guests attended the cere mony and Mrs. Sadie Hannum and Mrs. Bessie Ellsworth were witnesses. Mrs. Burk until" recently was secretary for the Carpenters local union, 123V West Main street. Keene cut and served the wedding cake and Mrs. D. G. Myatt and Mrs. J. Clark Bullock poured. The bride has completed her junior year at Oregon State col lege and is a member of Chi Omega sorority. Mr. Moreland, who was grad uated from Oregon State college in June with a degree in engin eering, will spend the next 15 months with the Westinghouse Electric corporation in Pitts burgh, and the couple will live there. He holds the reserve offi cers' commission of ensign in the Navy, and is a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Mr. and Mrs. Moreland were both in Corvallis for their son's wedding. - I To Initiate Central Point Nevita chap ter will hold initiation at a stated meeting set for Tuesday, June 28, at 8 p.m. in Central Point Masonic temple. " Of interest here is news of the ' wedding of Miss Mary Elizabeth Myatt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Myatt, Corvallis, to Ron ald John Moreland of Medford. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Moreland, 123 Vancouver avenue. The ceremony took place June 18 in Episcopal Church of the Good Samaritan in Corvallis, with the Rev. C. S. Neville read ing the service at three o'clock. Two-hundred guests attended the wedding, and the reception which followed in the parish hall. , Mrs. F. Kafel was soloist. Miss Margaret Anne Myatt was her sister's only attendant, and Mr. Myatt gave his daughter in marriage. The bride wore a gown . of imported Chantilly lace over pink, waltz length, and cap of pleated tulle studded with pearls held her illusion veil. She carried stephanotis and pink roses. The maid-of-honor wore a gown of tulip pink crystalette, waltz length, with headband of pink rosebuds and ribbon and carried a colonial bouquet of pink rosebuds and white carna tions. ' Hope Bullock, Portland, cou sin of the bride, was flower girl. Her frock of white nylon was trimmed with pink rosebuds and she carried a colonial bouquet of pink rosebuds and white car nations. Brazil, and Miss Victoria Ogal of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Can., health educators now in the county, will be in Gold Hill Tuesday. June 28. for a special meeting of the Gold Hill health unit.
