(International) Rainiers Nudge Portland 4-3 To Gain Share of Lead in PCL By NORM HITTER United Press Spoils Writer The rampaging Seattle Rain iers, early season Pacific Coast league leaders, had a 10-game winning streak today and 50 per cent ownership of the top rung of the league ladder that slipped from their grasp last May 16. The Rainiers vaulted into a tie for the league lead last night when they edged Portland, 4-3, for their 10th straight while last place Sacramento was upending pace-setting San Diego, 5-3. Jim Walsh held the Los An geles Angels to a scant four hits as the lowly San Francisco Seals snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory. Another nifty mound display, this one a five-hitter by Holly wood's Bob Garber, helped the Stars to a 3-0 win over the Oak land Acorns. Scored Fast The Rainiers opened up fast by scoring all their four runs in the first inning. The big poke of the frame was Art Schultz's sixth home run of the year with Gene Verble and Bill Glynn aboard. Bobby Balcena singled then stole second and was doub led home by Joe Ginsberg for the run that was to become the clincher. The Beavers struggled to catch up with a run in each of the sec ond, third and fourth innings. But Suds hurler Van Fletcher, who had relieved starter John Oldham in the fifth, wouldn't allow any more. The Padres, who have grimly watched a six-game lead vanish in the last fortnight, were limit ed to four hits by the Solons mound staff. Ed Cereghino re placed starter Chet Johnson in the fifth and pitched hitless ball for the Sacs the rest of the way. Bright Homers Sacramento tallied three times in the first two innings. Harry Bright walloped his second hom er of the year in the third to give the Solons a temporary four-run advantage. Al Heist squeezed home Tommy Glaviano in the seventh for the "cushion" fifth run after the Padres had pushed over a total of three in the fourth and fifth.
