mm v TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday June 19, 1953 State Auxiliary Names Medford Woman to Office Mrs. G. A. Dierdorff was elected president of the auxiliary to the Oregon Osteopathic asso ciation and Mrs. J. S. Heather ington was elected secretary of the group at a state convention June 13 through 15 at Portland. Other officers are Mrs. Luceo Mossman, Oswego, president elect; Mrs. D. B. Bond, Eugene, and Mrs. David Reid, Lebanon, first and second vice-presidents, respectively; and Mrs. E. L. Burnham, Oregon City, treasurer. Mrs. Dierdorff also was elected to represent the group as a delegate to the national convention of the auxiliary to the American Osteopathic asso ciation to be held in July at Los Angeles. Mrs. George S. Jennings and Mrs. W. W. Howard also at tended the recent convention. Mrs. Paul Van Allen, presi dent of the auxiliary to the American Osteopathic associa tion was there from Indianap olis, Ind., as the honored guest. She is a registered parliamen tarian and conducted a class on parliamentary procedure. In talking to the convention group Mrs. Van Allen said, "li you are not willing to stick your neck out in a meeting, don't stick your tongue out afterward. The time to express your views is when it will do some good and that is when the decisions are being made." She further said, "That's one thing that the majority of wom en in public life has yet to learn; they can't take defeat as grace fully as men . . . Men can argue most vehemently, getting pretty hot under the collar, but when the meeting is over, they leave the council hall good friends." The auxiliary program in cludes health and welfare prob lems and scholarships for young men and women entering one of the six osteopathic colleges in the country. The auxiliary also raises money for a research pro gram of the 12,500 osteopathic physicians and surgeons of the country. Miss Jean Page Receives Degree Miss Jean V. Page, 1227 North Riverside avenue, was awarded a master of arts degree in the field of vocational counseling by Teachers college, Columbia uni versity, at the university's 1955 commencement exercises June 1, a release from the college states. In addition Miss Page has re ceived a government grant through the college for a year's additional study in rehabilita tion counseling. Miss Page will spend the summer as a camp counselor, and return to school in the fall. Teachers college is the gradu ate school of education of Colum bia university. Miss Page was graduated from Southern Oregon college in Ash land before entering Columbia university. . Dinner ' The 8 and 40, honor group of the American Legion auxiliary, will hold a potluck dinner at the Legion home Tuesday, June 21 at 7 p.m. (f -'7'j, 4 ' 4 2V ft w V m i - A Mm? A t) Mr. and Mrs. Donald Edward Gardner Miss Jean Arden Kyle IV ed To Donald Edward Gardner The wedding of Miss Jean Arden Kyle to Donald Edward Gardner was an event of Sunday, June 12. The ceremony was held at First Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon, with Dr. Raymond E. Balcomb officiating at the double-ring rites. About 80 guests attended. I The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Kyle, 42 South Keene Way, Medford, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gardner, Bend, Ore. For the ceremony the bride wore a bridal gown oi wnite lace and net over satin, ankle length, and her elbow-length veil was held by a coronet. She carried white roses andstephano- tis, and a handkerchief loaned by Mrs. Ada Neal which has been used by several brides. Mr. Kyle gave his daughter in mar riage. Miss Caroline Matter of Salem was mam-ot-nonor, ana miss Sidney Smith, Medford, was bridesmaid. Their waltz length frocks of coral colored crystal- ette were "fashioned with long bodices and very full skirts and worn with short bolero jackets. They carried white carnation bouquets. Miss Sharon Woods, Portland, lighted the candles and little Jacalyn Lee Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Brown, was flower girl. Miss Woods' dress matched that worn by the attendants and her flowers were white carnations worn as a wristlet. The flower girl wore a frock of aquamarine nylon over full skirt of white and her little bouquet of carnations matched the blossoms in her hair. Lawrence Carroll, Bend, was best man for Mr. Gardner and ushers were Harold W. Gardner, cousin of the bridegroom, and Robert F. Kyle Jr., brother of the bride. Mrs. Ralph Matlack was solo ist, and Mrs. Gerald Sherman was at the organ. For the wedding and recep tion the bride's mother wore a jacket dress of white lace over black taffeta with black velevt picture hat and corsage of gold colored orchids. The bride groom's mother wore a dress of lavender paisley with small matching hat and white orchid ccrsageThe bride's grandmoth er, Mrs. Edith Pullye, Corvallis, wore a grey-blue print with cor sage of peppermint carnations. The reception which followed was in the church parlor. Mrs. Robert Kyle Jr., cut the cake and Mrs. Richard Kyle, another sister-in-law of the bride, poured punch. Miss Marjorie Sandfort took charge of the guest book and Miss Jerilyn Smith the gift table. The cake was cut with the heirloom knife which MrsJ W." J. Warner has loaned to many val ley brides, and was also used for the weddings of the bride's two brothers. , Mr.' and Mrs. Gardner are traveling in Canada for their wedding trip and their home will be at 1030 Cascade street, Redmond. Mrs! Gardner, who taught drama in Bend High school last year, will soon take up her duties as director of Christian education for Com munity Presbyterian church in Redmond. The bridegroom is serving in the United States Navy and is stationed at San Diego. This fall he will be on sea duty. The bride is a graduate of both Medford High school' and Willamette university, and is a member of Alpha Chi sorority. The bridegroom is also a grad uate of Willamette university and his fraternity is Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Chapter Dinner Given Recently At DeWittJHome Mr. and Mrs. Nick R. DeWitt entertained thirty members and guests of Alpha Beta chapter of Beta Sigma Phi at their home, 320 North Keene Way, Saturday, June 11. Members of the women's sor ority provided a potluck dinner for husbands and escorts.- Co chairmen of the dinner and en tertainment committee were Mrs. Steve Saimons and Mrs. Richard Bates. Following the meal, games were played. A handkerchief shower was pre sented to Mrs. Richard Bates, who is planning to move away from Medford during the sum mer. Alpha Beta will resume meet- i ings and social affairs next fall. Miss Ledingham And Keith Mi rick To Marry Soon Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Leding ham, Renton, Wash., recently announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Charlotte, to Keith Mirick, son of Mr. and Mrs. I. A. Mirick, 509 West Eleventh street, Medford. The wedding , will take place June 26 in Eugene, and the cou ple will live temporarily in Med ford. Miss Ledingham attended Wil lamette university, the Univer sity of Oregon and Mexico City college. She is affiliated with Delta Gamma sorority. Mr. Mirick was graduated in June from Willamette univer sity where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta, social frater nity, and Omicron Delta Kappa, national honor society for men. He is a musician, and was out standing in musical circles at Willamette university. Medford Woman Receives Office In State Group Large delegations from Cra ter and Medford Lions clubs and auxiliaries attended the an nual convention of the two held in Pendleton. They return ed Tuesday. The assemblage was highlight ed socially by a cocktail party and barbecue Sunday afternoon at the Pendleton Country club, and the governor's banquet and ball the following evening. In a business session, the 235 registered Lady Lion delegates chose Mrs. Dan Dwyer of Cra ter Lions' auxiliary as the new state parliamentarian. Mrs. Alva Perkins of Medford auxiliary served as a convention page. A visitor at the convention was Walter Dry, superintendent of Oregon. State School for the Blind and Mrs. Dry. Superin tendent praised the Lions and auxiliary for their work for the blind, and particularly for the auxiliary's institute for parents of blind children, held annually in Salem. Crater Lions' auxiliary mem bers attending the conclave were Mesdames Wendell Vaughn, Jack Ingram, Willard Buchan nan, Floyd Eastwood, Lowell Edwards,. Warren Brenner, and Dan Dryer. Mrs. Norman Capsey of Medford attended as a guest. Medford club and auxiliary members . attending were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Flynn, Mr. and Mrs. Alva Perkins, Mr and Mrs. Jerry Lausman, Dr. and Mrs. Lee Mellish, Mr. and Mrs. Rob ert Dames, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Knox, Larry Neeley, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Alan Jewett and Mr. and Mrs. Don Minkler. Miss Segessenman . Honored at Party; Wedding Saturday Shady Cove Miss Mary Eliza beth Segessenman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest W. Seges senman, was honored guest at a bridal shower given Monday evening at Mary's casa by Miss Kay Carrara, a former St. Mary's school classmate, and Mrs. Al Carrara. Guests at the event were also former classmates of the bride elect who was presented mis cellaneous gifts. .The evening was spent mainly in discussing former school days. The young women are members of the 1952 class of the school. Refreshments were served. The bride-elect's wedding to Chester Henry Pfluke, Jr., is planned for Saturday, June 25 at 1:30 o'clock in the afternoon at Sacred Heart Catholic church. The reception will, be held at Rogue Valley Country club. Medford Couple Guests to Leave ' Mr .and Mrs. Philip Dragoo of Tarkio, Mo.,- and their hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Foose, 706 Newtown street, plan to leave Monday for a trip up the Ore gon coast and return by way of Salem, Eugene, Roseburg and Grants Pass. Mr. . and Mrs. Dragoo arrived in Medford last Tuesday and plan to leave again on Thursday en route home. Mrs. Dragoo is a sister of Mr. Foose. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Dale Lee (Landis-Shangle photo) Maloney-Davis Ceremony Held At Bride's Home Miss Marilyn Jane Davis be came the bride June 10 of El mer Earl Maloney in a cere mony held at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Davis at 247 Winema way. The Rev. Perry M. Johnson of the Bethel Baptist church per formed the ceremony at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. A few relatives and friends attended. The bride wore a lavender wool suit with white accessories and her corsage was a lavender orchid. The bride, a Jackson ville high school senior, has lived in Medford since 1939 when she came from Detroit Lakes, Minn., with her parents, who have moved since the wed ding to Lake Creek. The couple will live at the Winema street address. The bridegroom came to Med ford about three years ago from Oklahoma, and is employed at the Ross Lumber company. Announce Trothal Of Coleen Willson To Air Force Man Murphy Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Willson, route 1, Murphy, have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Coleen Willson, to Larry Richardson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Verne Rich' ardson, also of route 1, Murphy. No wedding date has been set. The bride-elect is a 1953 grad uate of Grants Pass High school and is employed in the Don Ben jamin public accountant offices m Grants Pass. Her fiance is serving with the Air Force at Biggs Air Force base, El Paso, Tex. He has eight more months to serve. Club to Meet Butte Falls Wild flowers will be the topic given by Mrs. Frank Carson at a meeting Tues day, June 21 of the Butte Falls Federated Garden club. Installa tion of officers also is slated. The session will be held at 1:30 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Harry Dalton. Lee-Gunter Ceremony Held In Medford Friends' Church Medford Friend's church was the scene of " the wedding of Miss Juanita Marie Gunter and Jimmy Dale Lee Thursday, June 9. The Rev. Clynton Cris- man read the ceremony at 7:30 o'clock in the evening, and a reception followed at, the church. The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Claude L. Gunter, 1596 South Peach street, ..and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. John J. Klenner, formerly of Prospect and now of Sierra Madre, Calif. . Arrangements of garden blos soms and candles decorated the church and reception rooms. About 40 guests attended. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a wedding gown of white lace over nylon net, fashioned waltz length. Her veil was fingertip length and she carried a lavender orchid and white carnations on a white Bible.' Miss Mary Parsons, Cottage Grove, was maid-of-honor. She wore a pink frock and carried white carnations. Miss Jean Miller, cousin ' of the bride groom, and Miss Betty Lea Gun ter, the bride s sister, were bridesmaids. Miss Miller wore a yellow gown and Miss Gunter's frock was blue. Both carried bouquets of red carnations. Sharwyn Miller, cousin of the bridegroom, was flower girl. She wore a blue frock and car ried a basket of rose petals. Charles Cook was best man for Mr. Lee. Donald Landing and Jerry Abbott seated the guests and lighted the candles. The bride's mother wore a pink dress with a brown orchid corsage and the bridegroom's mother was attired in a blue dress worn with brown orchid corsage. During the reception Miss Lillian Lewis took charge of the guest book, Mrs. Don Landing and Mrs. Tom Noud served punch and wedding cake. Mrs. Charles Cook took charge of the gift table. Garden Rites Wed Couple Miss Leah Anne Watson be came the bride of James LeRoy Kelley in a ceremony held Tues day, June 7, at the home of the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kelley, Eagle Point. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John V. Watson, 1307 Kings highway. The service was held on the lawn of the Kelley home, with 32 guests attending, and a recep tion followed. The Rev. Perry Johnson of Bethel Baptist church read the double-ring rites at three o'clock. The bride was attended by her sister Mrs. Jerry Lauchner, and George Williams served as best man for Mr. Kelley. Rhonda Kelley, the bridegroom's sister, was flower girl. s For the ceremony the bride wore a suit of powder blue with white accessories and her; cor sage was of pink and white baby roses. The corsage was made by the bride's cousin, Mrs. Edward Watson. 1 Mr. Kelley and his bride spent their honeymoon on the coast and are living at 936 Alta street, Medford. Medford Couple Plans Wedding In September Mrs. Hettie DeMent,: 319 South Newtown street, an nounces the engagement of her daughter, Delorce Elizabeth, to David Lewis Stokes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Stokes, Rogue River.
