TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Friday, June 17, 195S Veteran Groups In Shady Cove Install- Officers Shady Cove Joint installation of officers was recently held by Veterans of Foreign Wars post and auxiliary at the post home in Shady Cove. Taking office for the auxiliary were Mrs. Harry Birch, presi dent; Mrs. Jim Hopkins, senior vice-president; Mrs. Russell Steele Jr., junior vice-president; Mrs. Ed Learning, treasurer; Mrs. Dan Krotz, secretary; Mrs. Dale Sawyer, chaplain; Mrs. Francis Miller, patriotic instruc tor; Mrs. Reed McKay, conduct ress; Mrs. Gene House, assistant conductress; Mrs. John Collins, guard; Mrs. Robert Colpitts, his torian; Mrs. Ivan Hale, trustee; Mrs. Claude Close, Mrs. Ivan Hale, Mrs. John Loper and Mrs. John Jones, color bearers. Mrs. Ivan Lusk conducted the ceremony, assisted by the install ing conductresses, Mrs. Sawyer and Mrs. Jones. Serving as color bearers were Mesdames Claude Close, John Wilson, Gene House, Dan Krotz and Jim Cassal, all past presidents. Hospital chair men from other auxiliaries also assisted. Corsages made by Mrs. Cassal were presented to guests and officers. Merle Beneka, Medford, com mander of District 7, installed post officers. They are Harry Birch, commander; James Hop kins, senior vice-commander; Russell Steele, -junior vice-commander; Ed Learning, quarter master; Reed McKay, judge ad vocate; James Cassal, surgeon; Robert Colpitts, chaplain; John Collins, Gene House and Dan Krotz III, trustees; Gene House, adjutant; John Wilson, officer of the day and Reed McKay, service officer. - Commander Dan Krotz II and Mrs. Frank Busch opened the meeting, and auxiliary officers were seated with the cross of Malta ceremony, Among the guests introduced was Mrs. Ellen Birch, who came from Seattle to see her son, Harry Birch, installed command er of the post. Refreshments closed the cere At Wedding Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Moreland, 123 Vancouver street, left today for Corvallis to attend the wed ding of their son, Ronald J. Moreland. His bride-to-be is Miss Mary Myatt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gervais Myatt, Corval lis, and the wedding is set for Saturday at three o'clock in the Episcopal church of Corvallis. Sorority Holds Formal Banquet Alpha Lambda chapter of Ep silon Sigma Alpha recently held their jewel and pledge cere monies and installation of offic ers during a formal banquet at Mon Desir inn, Central Point. Receiving their sorority pins were Mrs. Harold Adams, Mrs. William Raymond and Mrs. Ly man Smith. Receiving pledge pins were Mrs. Russell Torbeck, Mrs. Robert Shangle, Mrs. War ren Scott and Mrs. Thomas Makris. Each pledge was pre sented a corsage. Mrs. Charles Jones, retiring president, conducted installation of new officers. They are presi dent, Mrs. Chester Jines; vice president, Mrs. Lyman Smith; secretary, Mrs. Norman Oberst; treasurer, Mrs. Willie Fischer; parliamentarian, Miss Delores Lee. Mrs. Jines presented Mrs. Jones with a past president's gavel and an orchid corsage. Mrs. Jines announced the fol lowing committees for next year: Educational director, Mrs. Har old Adams; ways and means, Mi's. Robert Barbee and Mrs. Howard Phillips Jr.; jonquil girl, Mrs. William Raymond; public ity, Mrs. Chester Peterson; tele phone committee, Mrs. Russell Roseborough; historian, Miss Frances Thrun. College Student To Arrive Home Miss Joyce Bearden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Bearden, Lozier lane, is to arrive Sunday from Portland where she has been visiting sorority sisters since the close of the spring term at the University of Oregon. She is a member of Alpha Phi soror ity. Tomorrow evening she will serve as a candlelighter at the wedding of another sorority sis ters. Soon after her arrival here Sunday she will accompany her parents to Reno, Nev., where the group will visit the Beardens other daughter, Mrs. John Skyrman. Miss Bearden will re main at Reno to attend summer sessions at" the University of Nevada and her parents will re turn home Tuesday. Juniors Hold Picnic In Hawthorn Park Degree of Honor Junior club held a picnic meeting in Haw thorne park last Saturday. Guests were Mrs. J. R. Seiler, Miss Adebee Seiler, Dave and Douglas Snider Jr., Bend, Ore., Diana Carter, Wolf Creek, Ore.; Vicki Breen, Judyth Booth, Carol Town and Ronnie Combs, all Medford. Michael Finley and Diana Carter were initiated. Prizes were won by Dave and Douglas Snider, Frank and Dick Schuchard. Blaine - Wolf was given, the Young Crusader for taking a guest to the meeting. Mrs. Milton Medcalf of the committee Of awards presented Blue Bird honors to Maty Mar garet Barr, Jacque Chesnut and Nancy Morrison. This is the first honor a Camp Fire Girl may re ceive after flying up from a Blue Bird grouf. Mrs. Medcalf also presented the first rank, trail seeker, to Joan Seitz. - The girls helped plan part of the ceremonial around the birth day project "Let Freedom Ring"; lighting candles for famous peo ple, of their choice, who had helped build our country. Receiving honor beads at the ceremonial were Mary Margaret Barr, Jsque Chesnut, Sara Hinkle, Linda Medcalf, Nancy Morrison, Joan Seitz, Janice Taylor, Treva Toenniges, Donna Unger and Ann Younger. After the ceremonial the girls gave an original skit and served refreshments to their parents and friends. Rose Society Show Today The first annual rose show of Medford Rose society, being held today in the cafeteria of Medford Senior High school, will remain open until 9 o'clock to night. The general public is in vited to attend. The show' ppened for entries at 7:30 o'clock this morning and by" 8 a.m. several tables were already filled with specimens entered for competition or for identification, and with arrange ments, r The show, planned for earlier in the month, was postponed until today because of cold, rainy weather which delayed the blooming season. More than 100 ribbons and 14 trophies will be presented, with the presenta tion ceremony set for 8 p.m. to night. Dr. and Mrs. L. G. Gentner are show chairman. Chapter of Blind Installs Officers Officers were installed at a meeting of Jackson County chap ter, Associated Council of the Blind, held last Sunday in the Guild hall of St. Mark's Epis copal church. Chaplain Howard Chilson, as sisted by Mrs. John E. Ragsdale, conducted the ceremony. The officers are John E. Ragsdale, president; Mrs. Geraldine Mc donald, vice-president; Howard Chilson, chaplain; Mrs. Lydia Harris, secretary-treasurer. Appointed to office were Mrs. Ella Lance, program chairman; Mrs. Rose Munroe, social chair man; Sam Evans, white cane week chairman for 1956. Mrs. Munroe and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hanscom were accepted into membership. Delegates John Ragsdale and Mrs. Geraldine McDonald report ed on the annual meeting of the Oregon Associated Council of the Blind held iri Portland May 21. Mr. Ragsdale was elected a trus tee to the council, and Mrs. Mc Donald was named to the nom inating committee. Local. Delegates Receive Offices A heavy schedule of activities is being enjoyed by Medford delegates to Girls' state, a news release from Salem states. Among recent activities was the election of city and county officers and the nomination of state officers. Miss Jane Bash, in addition to being elected a delegate to her party caucus and to the position of a county judge, had the honor of being selected from her coun ty to run for governor. Other honors have been be stowed upon the Medford girls. Miss Marilyn Olson was elected a delegate to her party caucus and county judge. Miss Nancy McKeown was elected a city councilman and county sheriff. GOLDEN WEDDING Ashland Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Billings will observe their 50th wedding anniversary with a re ception Sunday, June 19. The event will be held, in Ashland Methodist church from 2:30 to 5 o'clock and all friends of the couple are invited to attend.
