Blaest, the for mer Miss Alice Hastain whose wedding was an event of April, was honored at a miscellaneous shower Friday, May 27, at the home of Mrs. Herbert Tilley, 1115 West Ninth street. The eve ning was spent in games and the bride was presented many gifts. The hostess was assisted in serving refreshments by Mrs. Richard Tilley and Mrs. A. C. Allen III. Those who attended were Mrs. Lettie Robinson, Mrs. C. C. Bailey, Mrs. Ira Van Brunt, Mrs. Frank Chapman, Mrs. W. A. Hastain, Mrs. Alvy Serry, Miss Laura Lee Stevenson, Mrs. A. C. Another gift shower for the bride was held May 26 after a regular meeting of Circle 5 of the Christian Women's Fellow ship of the First Christian church. " New Graduates To Be Honored By Women's Club Graduates of this year will be especially honored at the monthly dinner meeting of Christian Business and Profes sional Women set for Monday, June 6, at 6 p.m., at the Hotel Jackson, Pioneer room. Mrs. Gertrude Neff will be speaker for the evening, and Miss Carol Gossard, president, will introduce other features of the program. Honored at Party; Wedding Day Set A shower given in honor of Miss Shirley Nigl May 20 was a combined birthday party and bridal shower. Miss Nigl is the bride-elect of Jim W. Hill, Cen tral Point, who is an airman first class in the Air Force. The wedding is set for June 18. Miss Joan Mete, Miss Margie Newman and Miss Myrna Potts were the hostesses. Table decorations included a miniature bride with an um brella and a larger umbrella holding gifts was suspended over the figurine. Yellow flow ers completed the decorations. Shower Given For Bride-Elect Mrs. Wililam Driscoll and Mrs. Richard Coats were hostesses Wednesday for a party which honored Miss Charlotte Singler. Miss Singler's wedding to Frank Lemanek of Seattle took place yesterday morning in Sacred Heart Catholic church here. Guests at the party, given at the Coats home, 1300 Winchester avenue, were for the most part former classmates of the bride. They were Mrs. William Sing ler, Mrs. Herbert Dungey, Mrs. Lee Pendergast, Mrs. Edward Cooper, Miss Beverly Noud, Miss Mary Annette Rentz and the honored guest. Cards followed dessert, and the honored guest was presented gifts for her new home. Held Thursday Eagles, Auxiliary Weed, Mrs. Walter Rombs and Clarice Garrett. Edward Olson was installing grand worthy president and Mrs. Rodney Garrett was the instal ling grand madam president. Howard Brooks acted as instal ling conductor for the men and Mrs. Edward Olson was instal ling conductor for the auxiliary. Lewis Parker was pianist. Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. the new officers of both lodges will have on officers meeting at the hall. Medford IOOF Elects Officers Tom Banks, business man from Phoenix, was elected noble grand of Medford lodge, IOOF, at a session of the group held May 31. Elbert B. Kyle, 42 South Keene way, arrived yes terday from Bend, Ore., where she has been teaching the past year. Miss Kyle's fiance, Donald Gardner, Bend, is arriving from San Diego today and their wed ding is set for June 12 at 2:30 o'clock at First Methodist church. Miss Kyle's grandmother, Mrs. Edith Pulley, has arrived from Corvallis to be here for the wed ding. Valley Couple To Marry Here In Church Rites Ashland Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Cook, Ashland, announce the en gagement and forthcoming mar riage of their daughter, Mrs. Mil dred Cook Wilson of Medford, to B. B. Anderson, Jacksonville. The wedding is planned for Sunday, June 12 at St. Mark's Episcopal church. Mrs. Wilson owns and man ages Cook's Beauty clinic and Mr. Anderson operates Ben's Food market in Jacksonville. They will make their home in Jacksonville. Crater Auxiliary , Holds Initiation; Delegates Named New members were initiated into Crater Lions club auxiliary at a meeting June 1. Initiated were Mrs. Earl Crimson, Mrs. Don Pelling, Mrs. John Lusk and Mrs. John Russell. Mrs. Lowell Edwards, presi dent, gave the annual report. An invitation from the Pendle ton Lions club auxiliary to at tend the Oregon Lions club state convention was read. The con vention is to be held in Pendle ton June 12-14. Members of Cra ter auxiliary planning to attend are Mrs. Willard Buchanan, Mrs. Jack Ingram, Mrs. Warren Bren ner, Mrs. Lowell Edwards, Mrs. Floyd Eastwood, Mrs. Wendell Vaughn, Mrs. Dan Dwyer and Mrs. James Armson. They are Mrs. Bessie Lums den and Mrs. Maude Duffy. Mrs. Lumsden, a member for 55 years, was worthy matron of the Reames chapter in 1903. Mrs. Maude Duffy has been a member of the order for 50 years. They will be presented their honors Tuesday, June 7 and both plan to be in Portland for the occasion. A large delegation also will at tend from Reames chapter and three members will participate in the sessions. Mrs. Jack Cald well is Grand Adah; Mrs. John Esp will be a grand page and Morris Boughner will act as a teller. A chapter meeting scheduled for June 9 has been postponed because of the grand chapter session. Those who plan to attend from here are Mrs. Jack Ward, worthy matron; Mr. Boughner, worthy patron; Mrs. Boughner, Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Reames chapter Past Matrons club also will postpone their meeting which was scheduled for June 6. They will meet again on June 27 at the Ira Canfield home, Coleman Creek road. Nurse Speaks for Medford Jaycettes Miss Dorothy Collard of the Jackson County Public Health department spoke to Medford Jaycettes at a meeting Wednes day evening. The main differenece between the public health nurse and the hospital nurse, Miss Collard ex plained, is that the public health nurse teaches the homemaker how to care for the sick in the home. This service, she added, is available to everyone on ire quest. Miss Collard, who is super visor of nurses, also explained the immunization plan, tuber culosis care and well baby clinics which are available to the public. The Jaycettes plan a baked food sale for June 18 for which Mrs. Walt Smith is chairman. Mrs. Bill Rombach served as hostess Wednesday evening with Mrs. Bob Foster and Mrs. Vern Collins assisting. A farewell gift was given to Mrs. J. D. Smith. At a recent party for her and her husband Mr. Smith was presented a past president's pin from the Jaycees. Pulpwood is wood that has been cut or prepared primarily for processing into pulp, which in turn is manufactured into paper and other products. History Contest Wipners Named; Meeting Held Winners of an annual DAR his tory contest conducted at Med ford Junior high school under the sponsorship of Crater Lake chapter of DAR, were announced last week. The three top winners are Carolyn Mencke, Henry Ol son and John Frohnmayer. Nan cy Becken received honorable mention. They participated in the contest with 18 other stu dents who were eligible for this year's awards. The winners are determined through a written ex amination on history. The local chapter has spon sored the contest for the past 20 years and names of the three top winners will be engraved on a silver plaque at the school which is a permanent record of the an nual winners. t A group of Crater Lake chap ter members attended a district 3 meeting in Grants Pass last week and gave a report on sessions of the Continental Congress which Mrs. W. B. McCullough of Ash- she attended recently in Wash ington, D. C. Mrs. McCullough, a member of the Ashland Tidings news staff, also attended sessions of both houses of the United States congress with a press group. - During the meeting Mrs. Mc Cullough was elected district chairman, and Mrs. W. J. McCoy. also of Ashland, was elected vice chairman. Mrs. Ray K. Bailey of Medford was reelected secretary-treasurer. Mrs. M. H. Aker- ill is the retiring chairman. Soprano To Sing At Mon Desir Inn 1 Miss Jean Farley, lyrie so prano, who is visiting her par ents, Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Far ley, Jacksonville highway, will sing as a guest at Mon Desir dining inn, Central Point, Wednesday evening June 8. Her first vocal " teacher, Mrs. Ro berta Ward Behb, will accom pany her for the first several selections beginning at 7:30 p.m. Later during the evening Joe Newman; pianist at the dining inn, will furnish accompan ment. . ,. . Miss Farley Is visiting here be fore going to Los Angeles for further voice study. She has been studying at San Francisco with Mrs. Verna Osborne and she also has studied with Rich ard Lest academy of the West in Santa Barbara and majored in music at the College of Pacific at Stockton, Calif., from which she was graduated. The singer also has done tome opera work with the Pacific Opera company and the Cosmo politan Opera company, both in San Francisco. In Los Angeles she will worl toward her masters degree at the University of California and. will continue work in the musi cal field there. S. Walden and Mrs. A. H. Gregory, delegates, will make the reports. Members of Siskiyou canton, Patriarchs Militant, will conduct a memorial service for Mrs. Marie Hanson, who died recent ly. Organist Receives Gift From Choir Mrs. James Shinn was pre sented a gift of appreciation of her work as organist at St. Mark's Episccfpal church by members of the church choir after rehearsal Wednesday eve ning at the church. Mrs. Ernest Conrad, former organist, will re turn to that position. ' A quarterly meeting of St. Mark's vestry was held June 1 at Black Oaks conference center when dinner was served by members of the evening guild. A guest at the meeting was the Rev. Robert F.
