a combined birthday party and
bridal shower. Miss Nigl is the
bride-elect of Jim W. Hill, Cen
tral Point, who is an airman
first class in the Air Force. The
wedding is set for June 18.

Holds Initiation;

New members were initiated
into Crater Lions club auxiliary
at a meeting June 1. Initiated
were Mrs. Earl Crimson, Mrs.
Don Pelling, Mrs. John Lusk and

To Be Honored
By Grand Chapter
Two Medford women will be
honored for longtime member
ships in the Order of the Eastern
Star during a grand chapter ses
sion June 6 through 9 in Port
land. They are Mrs. Bessie Lums
den and Mrs. Maude Duffy.
Mrs. Lumsden, a member for
55 years, was worthy matron of
the Reames chapter in 1903. Mrs.
Maude Duffy has been a member
of the order for 50 years. They
will be presented their honors
Tuesday, June 7 and both plan to
be in Portland for the occasion.
A large delegation also will at
tend from Reames chapter and
three members will participate
in the sessions. Mrs. Jack Cald
well is Grand Adah; Mrs. John
Esp will be a grand page and
Morris Boughner will act as a
teller.
A chapter meeting scheduled
for June 9 has been postponed
because of the grand chapter
session.

Nurse Speaks for
Medford Jaycettes
Miss Dorothy Collard of the
Jackson County Public Health
department spoke to Medford
Jaycettes at a meeting Wednes
day evening.
The main differenece between
the public health nurse and the
hospital nurse, Miss Collard ex
plained, is that the public health
nurse teaches the homemaker
how to care for the sick in the
home. This service, she added,
is available to everyone on ire
quest. Miss Collard, who is super
visor of nurses, also explained
the immunization plan, tuber
culosis care and well baby
clinics which are available to
the public.
The Jaycettes plan a baked
food sale for June 18 for which
Mrs. Walt Smith is chairman.
Mrs. Bill Rombach served as
hostess Wednesday evening with
Mrs. Bob Foster and Mrs. Vern
Collins assisting.
A farewell gift was given to
Mrs. J. D. Smith. At a recent
party for her and her husband
Mr. Smith was presented a past
president's pin from the Jaycees.
Pulpwood is wood that has
been cut or prepared primarily
for processing into pulp, which
in turn is manufactured into
paper and other products.

History Contest
Wipners Named;
Meeting Held
Winners of an annual DAR his
tory contest conducted at Med
ford Junior high school under
the sponsorship of Crater Lake
chapter of DAR, were announced
last week. The three top winners
are Carolyn Mencke, Henry Ol
son and John Frohnmayer. Nan
cy Becken received honorable
mention. They participated in
the contest with 18 other stu
dents who were eligible for this
year's awards. The winners are
determined through a written ex
amination on history.
The local chapter has spon
sored the contest for the past 20
years and names of the three top
winners will be engraved on a
silver plaque at the school which
is a permanent record of the an
nual winners. t
A group of Crater Lake chap
ter members attended a district 3
meeting in Grants Pass last week
and gave a report on sessions of
the Continental Congress which

she attended recently in Wash
ington, D. C. Mrs. McCullough, a
member of the Ashland Tidings
news staff, also attended sessions
of both houses of the United
States congress with a press
group.

chairman, and Mrs. W. J. McCoy.

Miss Farley Is visiting here be
fore going to Los Angeles for
further voice study. She has
been studying at San Francisco
with Mrs. Verna Osborne and
she also has studied with Rich
ard Lest academy of the West in
Santa Barbara and majored in
music at the College of Pacific
at Stockton, Calif., from which
she was graduated.
The singer also has done tome
opera work with the Pacific
Opera company and the Cosmo
politan Opera company, both in
San Francisco.
In Los Angeles she will worl
toward her masters degree at
the University of California and.
will continue work in the musi
cal field there.
She also has done television
work on station KPIX in San
Francisco.
The forest reserves of the
United States were transferred

Planned for Meeting
Reports of the state Rebekah
assembly held recently at La
Grande will be made Monday at
a meeting of the Olive Rebekah
lodge at 8 p.m.
Mrs. Lewis Thompson, Mrs.
O. S. Walden and Mrs. A. H.
Gregory, delegates, will make
the reports.
Members of Siskiyou canton,
Patriarchs Militant, will conduct
a memorial service for Mrs.
Marie Hanson, who died recent
ly. She was financial secretary
of Olive Rebekah lodge.

visit of the state Rebekah presi
dent, Mrs. Edna. Bradley.

Organist Receives
Gift From Choir

her work as organist at St.

members of the church choir
