TWO -MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Monday, May 30, 1955 'Rock 'n' Roll' Records Decline From National Mania To Only Small Group New York U.R) "Well, it was fun while it lasted, but rhythm and blues or call it "rock 'n' roll" has gone from a national mania down to a cult. The popularity polls in Tin Pan Alley trade papers told the story this week. Up at the top the . s" titles were in plain English and as wholesome a collection as you'll ever find "Dance With Me, Henry," . . . "Cherry Pink and Apple Blos som White" . . . "Davy Crock ett"'. Not Hiding Relief You had to look way down toward the bottom of the page to findr the kind of titles that dominated the list a few weeks ago "Bo Diddley," "Chop Chop Boom," "Flip Flop and Fly" and "Bop Ting-A-Ling." Oldtimers in the music busi ness are not hiding their relief, although popular record sales are in a slump. "Nothing in the way of a fad has come along to take the place of rhythm and blues," said one publisher. . Though they no longer dom inate the best-seller lists, R&B tunes still have a following among energetic teen-agers and others who haven't found any thing better to dance to. Their record-buying is ex pected to keep many R&B mu sicians from going hungry in months to come. Most record companies plan to continue to bring out new R&B titles as long as the cult remains faithful. Millions Sold TheV'rock 'n' roll" craze in volving blues music with heavy beat and words that didn't nec essarily make sense sold mil lions of records and put some struggling independent compan ies into the black. But it also . gave the industry a black eye, temporarily at least. Criticism of suggestive lyrics or "leerics" hit the R&B songsmiths three months ago. As a result, the whole of Tin Pain Alley promised to be more mind ful of double meanings, and doz ens of disc jockeys took public pledges to keep certain records off the air. Death of Youngster Being Investigated South San Francisco, Calif. (U.R) Doctors performed addl tional tests today on the vital organs of a 4-year-old girl who collapsed and died suddenly while playing with neighbor children. The girl, Susan Ruth Little- field, fell to the ground uncon scious moments after her father, Robert, gave her permission to play with the other children yes- j terday. Artificial respiration and oxy gen were administered for 15 minutes, but the family physi cian pronounced the child dead Her parents said Susan, who attended Sunday school an hour before her death, had been in perfect health. SPORT PLANES COLLIDE Pavia, Italy (U.R) The "Tour of Lombardy" rally was damp ened today following the death of four participants in an air accident. Two sport planes in the rally collided and crashed here yesterday, killing four of the six fliers involved. njw y , -: JF 7-' ' - i ' - - - ' - : ' 'jo;';'.--' ' -:c: -.jX-:-'::'-jy'fy :-:;: '::'' xw:-: :;:-: ::.;:::: :::y-:':'-tt Famous Trichologist Tells Truth About Saving And Improving Hair This new method of horn treament of saving and grow ing thicker hair will be dem onstrated in Medford. OKLAHOMA CITY May 28 In an interview here today D. Russell Collins, internationally famous trichologist and director of the Collins Hair and Scalp Experts. Inc., said. "There are 18 different scalp disorders that cause most men and women to lose hair. Using common sense, a person must realize no one tonic or so-called cure-all could correct all the disorders," he ex plained. GUARANTEED "The Collins firm, recognizing that most people are skeptical of claims that hair can be grown on balding heads, offers a guaran tee." Collins said. Once a person avails them selves to the Collins treatment his skepticism immediately dis appears. To insure this, we offer this guarantee. '"If-you are not completely satisfied with your hair progress in the very first 30 days your money will be re turned." HOPELESS CASES DISCOURAGED First the Collins specialists are quick to tell hopeless cases that they cannot be helped. But the "hopeless" cases are few. Only if a man is completely, shiny bald is he in this lost category. If there is fuzz, no matter how light, thin, or colorless, the Col lins firm can perform wonders. Everyone is given a complete, private examination to deter mine the condition of his scalp, and cause for his hair trouble. FREE EXAMINATIONS This examination is very thor ough and highly technical, it re quires 20 to 30 minutes. There is no charge for this examination and no appointment is necessary. After the examination he is told the required length of treatment and how much it will cost. After starting treatment, he makes regular reports to the Col lins firm in Oklahoma City, and a trichologist will retrun to check his progress periodically. To spread the opportunity of normal, healthy hair to the thousands who are desperately looking for help, the Collins frim is spending specialists to various cities throughout the United States to conduct exami nations and start home treat ment. , . ' NO CUREALL "We have no cure-all for si;ck, shiny baldness," Collins empha sizes. "If there is fuzz, the root is still capable of creating hair and we can perform what seems to me a miracle. There is one thing Collins wants to be certain every man and woman knows. If a recession appears at the temples or a spot begins to show up on the crown of the head, there is something wrong and it should be given immediate attention. HAIR FOR LIFETIME "If clients follow our direc tions during treatment, and aft er they finish the course, there is no reason why they will not have hair all the rest of then lives," Collins said. "Our firm is definitely behind this treatment, it all depends on the individual client's faithful observation of a few simple rules." HOWS YOUR HAIR? If it worries you call Tri chologist S. M. Carey, at the Jackson Hotel in Medford, Oregon on Wednesday only, June 1, 2 P.M. til 9 P.M. The public is invited. You do not need an appointment. The ex aminations are private and you will not be embarrassed or obligated in any way. References: Financial, First Nat'l Bank and Trust Co., of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. adv. On The Side By E. V.
