The event was held at the home of Mrs. Minnechi's mother, Mrs. Leo "Williams, 1003 Reddy avenue. - Miss Rice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Rice of South Holly street, and Randy Middleton of Eugene are to be married June 19 in that city. Miss Rice and her fiance are spending the week end here with. the Rices. At the shower party, planned as a surprise for the bride-elect, she was presented with a shower of gifts for her kitchen. An ar rangement of painted daisies dec orated the serving table. Present were Miss Rice, her mother and Mrs. Don Slater, Mrs. George Witter, Mrs. Arthur Hess, Mrs. Wilbur Arnold, Mrs. John Laird, Mrs. Lewis P. Rentchler, Mrs. E. G. Randolph, Mrs. E. Ron ald Rice, Mrs. F. Wilson Wait, Miss Ann Rentchler. Miss Mar ianne Moore, Mrs. Williams and the two hostesses. Both Miss Rice and her fiance are seniors at the University of Oregon and will graduate in June. Marion Cantrall And Gary Strong Plan Summer Rites Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Cantrall, 506 South Newton street, an nounce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Marion Cantrall, to Gary Strong, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Strong, 53 Ross court, Medford. Miss Cantrall is a member of the 1955 graduating class of Medford Senior High school. Her fiance is a 1954 graduate of Medford Senior High school He entered the Navy in March and is now stationed in San Diego. A summer wedding is planned. Darline Bradshaw To Become Bride Of James Mitchell Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Brad thaw, route 3, box 175-D, Med ford, announce the forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Miss Darline Violet Bradshaw, to James Jerome Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mitchell, Erie, N.D. The bride-elect is a member of the 1955 graduating class of Phoenix High school. Her fiance is a graduate of Erie High school and is a farmer in that area. . The wedding date has been set for June 12 at the First Church of God. Get Together Club To Hold Meeting The Get Together club will meet for a potluck luncheon and business session Wednesday, June 1 at 12:30 p.m., at the Moose hall on Newtown street. Miss Carma Ferguson (Fehly studio) Engagement News Told at Fireside On Eugene Campus ,A late evening fireside at the Delta Delta Delta sorority house in Eugene Wednesday, May 18, was the occasion for formal an nouncement of the engagement of Miss Carma Helen Ferguson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ferguson, 888 Second avenue, Gold Hill, to Jack V. Lanford, son of Mrs. Nannie Lanford, 214 Willamette avenue, Medford. The fireside and surprise an nouncement followed sorority tradition. The theme "It's a Match" was carried through with a decorated cake, served as part of the refreshments and favors of printed book matches which were given to each guest. Assist ing Miss Ferguson in the an nouncement were Misses Betty Miller, Molly Moore and Sonia Edwards. Mrs. Ferguson, mother of the bride-to-be, flew to Eugene to attend the event. Guests other than sorority members included Mrs. Carlton Moran, Mrs. Cecil Daniel, Mrs. Jerry Shaw, Miss Greta Yarbrough and Mrs. Nan nie Lanford, who is temporarily living in Eugene. Miss Ferguson, who is living in Eugene, was a 1954 graduate of the University of Oregon and is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Mr. Lanford, who is employed by General- Motor Acceptance corporation in Portland, was also a 1954 graduate of the University of Oregon and a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. No date has been set for the wedding. PATTERN FOR SOLDIER WIVE Seoul, Korea (U.R) The wife of a South Korean army officer is getting a citation for "un selfish devotion to her sick mother-in-law." Army Chief of Staff General Chun II Kown said the conduct of Ai Kyong Kim, 23, wife of a second lieu tenant, "should be a pattern for all soldiers' wives." Pair to Marry In Fall Rites Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Taylor, 331 Melrose avenue, announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Ruth Taylor, a junior at the University of California, to Eric H. Carson, son- of Mr. and Mrs. Max H. Carson, formerly of Oahu, Hawaii. Mr. Carson is a physicist with the public health department of California. Miss Taylor is majoring in psychol ogy and is a 1952 Medford Senior high school graduate. The wedding is set. for Sep tember 4 at Medford First Pres byterian church. Miss Taylor was vice-president of Torch Honor society m her senior year, and was a member of the iigh school band. Lewis, 409 East Main street, announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Miss Anelda Lewis, to Zouhdi Derhalli, Corvallis. Miss Lewis is a graduate of Medford Senior High school and is now a junior nursing student at Walla Walla college school of nursing, Portland division. Mr. Derhalli is a graduate in mechanical engineering from Walla Walla college, College Place, Wash., and is currently doing graduate work at Oregon State college. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Numib Derhalli, Jerusalem, Palestine. The wedding is planned for late August. Junior Rose Festival Royalty Selected Portland (U.R) Sharron Hocking, eight-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Hock ing, Portland, has been named 1955 Junior Rose Festival Queen. Chosen prime minister was David Peterson, nine-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl N. Pet erson, Portland. Sharron is a second grader at Applega.te school. Tiny oilman's mm J: Padlock Described As Safety Measure for Tools and Appliances Milwaukee (U.R) A thumbnail-sized padlock can be used as a safety measure for young sters by "locking out" the elec trical plugs of lamps, power tools and appliances when not in use. The tiny laminated steel pad lock contains a shackle, or "hook," only one - eighth of an inch thick, small enough to fit virtually every electrical plug. When the padlock is snapped shut through the hole in either prong of the plug, it becomes im possible for children to insert the plug into an outlet. Called the "Cub," the padlock weighs less than an ounce and stands slightly more than an inch high. It can also be used for lock ing zippers, brief cases, golf bags and mail boxes. Miss Patricia Abbott WSCS Reviews Work of Year; Visitor Talks Woman's Society of Christian Service, First Methodist Church closed the year's- business at its last meeting, May 24. Under the leadership of Mrs. Floyd Lewis the organization heard, in re ports from the various secre taries and officers that all ob ligations have been met. The group voted to give financial support to the fund for sending Michael Sterns and Stanly Culy to the National Convocation for Methodist Youth to be held at Purdue University in August. Funds derived from the an nual thank-offering service May 15 will go to missions in the form of adult life memberships to Mrs. L. G. Rankin, retiring secretary of promotion and president-elect of WSCS,, and Mrs. Lee Van Ausdall retiring secretary. Members of the group also voted to give financial sup port toward the expenses of bringing a displaced family of four persons to Medford. Following luncheon served by Circle 7, with Mrs. Clarence Jordan as chairman, the newly elected officers were installed by Mrs. J. Thomas Dixon. Mrs. Lyle Schoppert furnished vocal selections. Mrs. Bryan Pierce, program chairman, presented Miss Judy Rapharst, from The Netherlands a student at Southern Oregon college. .Miss Rapharst gave a brief description of her native land aand stated that its worst enemy is the sea. She stated that largely because of the Mar shall plan aid, the visitor to the Netherlands will see no effects of the devastation suffered in the last war. Mrs. Rankin, newly installed president announced an officer's training day June 1 at 10 a. m. First meeting of the executive group will be June 7 at 1:30 p.m. Central Point Man Taken to Hospital Kent Clark, route 2, box 268, Central Point, was taken to Com munity hospital by Medford Am bulance service Friday evening, after collapsing at the Mobilgas plant at 936 South Central ave. It was reported that he had been involved in a minor vehicle accident in Grants Pass earlier in the day, and then drove to Medford, thinking he was un hurt. He spent a fair night at the hospital Friday, and was under going x-rays Saturday to de termine whatjnternal injuries he may have suffered. His condi tion was listed as good." New. Group Formed in Eagle Point Eagle Point Eagle Point Parent-Teacher-Student association was formed at an organizational meeting held May 24 in the high school library. Officers for the new group are Mrs. Herbert Perdue, presi dent; Mrs. Ray Tresham, firse vice-president; Stewart Hopper, teacher vice-president: Mrs. Rob ert N. Meyer, secretary; Mrs. Max Hawks, treasurer and Clar ence Davies, historian. This organization will be composed of parents of high school students, the high school teachers, the high school stu dents and other interested per sons. The executive committee will include officers of the as sociation, the chairmen of all standing committees, and two student representatives a boy and a girl from each class in the high school. All those who joined the association at this meeting are charter members, as will be those who join before or at the first regular meeting in the fall. A panel discussion on the sub ject "High School PTA's" was presented by Mrs. C. F. Conley of Ashland, president of the Jackson County Council of Par ents and Teachers, Mrs. John Benson of Medford, parliamen tarian for the Oregon Congress of Parents and Teachers, Mrs. Leigh Gustison of Medford, re cording secretary for the Oregon Congress, and Mrs. Millard F. Johnson, wife of a senior high school teacher in Ashland. Following this discussion, a set of by-laws was adopted and an election held. . West Side Club Names Officers; Primary Party West Side New officers were elected when West Side Mothers' club met recently at the home of Mrs. Phillip Hum phreys for the final lesson of the year. They are president, Mrs. Walter Graff; vice-president, Mrs. S. M. Croucher; sec retary, Mrs. W. S. Cochran, treasurer, Mrs. T. F. Scanlon. Parents of the first and second grade children who received their anti-polio shots on Tues-. day are urged to watch the newspaper for the announce ment of the date and time of the second shots. Friday, May 20, the pupils of the Primary room and their teacher, Mrs. Corrinne Robbins, entertained the children who are planning on enterlnf ft first grade next fall at the pre school party. Members of the first grade welcomed the visi tors, gave the rules of the school took them on a tour of the school plant, told them of the schedule of the day and read an interesting story to them.
