BUT NOT DRY A violent thunder ftorm that dumped more than three inches of rain in two hours on Cleveland stranded this unidentified truck driver "awaiting rescue. Note car at left abandoned. Bus with passen gers to right of truck is also stalled. Storms Leave At Least 5 iead By UNITED PRESS An advancing storm front shook the Midwest and South with death dealing winds and lightning and moved on to whip the nation's East today. Sudden storms last night killed at least five persons. A man and two boys died at Augusta, Ga.t when 80-mile per hour winds caved in the concrete block wall of a baseball park. In Clinton City, Mich., a lightning bolt killed a father and son. Tornado funnels danced across the Midwest, menacing the me tropolis of Chicago, and touched down at Marietta, Ga., blowing away a garage and barn. Detroit and Chicago were meanwhile whipped by violent thunderstorms which spewed torrents of rain, sparked fires, and tied up transportation. Wall Collapses In the South, windstorms laced with twisters raced across Ala bama and Georgia, striking hardest at Augusta as a minor league baseball game was in progress at Jennings Stadium. Wes Bennett, about 25, David Thomas, about 12, and Sam Mad ison, about 13, had apparently tried to take shelter beside a 10 foot high section of the stadium wall which had been condemned. The wind blew in the wall and the three persons, all Negroes, were killed. Death struck with equal sud denness in Michigan, where a Clinton City father and his two 'sons took refuge under a tree. A lightning bolt forked down, killing the father and one son and knocking over the other boy. In Chicago, meanwhile, the temperature skidded 20 degrees in 60 minutes as the city was doused by 1.30 inches of rain. Appeals Court Debates Motion by Dr. Sheppard Cleveland- (U.R) Three Court of Appeals judges today began consideration of Dr. Sam uel Sheppard's motion to set aside his second degree murder conviction for the bludgeonslay ing of his wife, Marilyn, last July 4. The two-day hearing on the motion, based on alleged judicial error in the trial, -ended yester day. N The judges can reverse the original decision, sustain it, or lower the degree of guilt in their decision expected within a month. Underpasses and basements were flooded, more than 50 cars were stalled on Lake Shore Drive, and lightning touched off a $3,000 fire on the northwest side. New York City sweltered through its second day of more than 90 per cent humidity and office workers shucked their coats in many other Eastern cities. Graduation Cards to say "How proud you are! ' Let us not be so indifferent as to hold the love of personal gain above love of country. Let us pause and rededicate ourselves to the cause for which these men died to keep America free a symbol to the world of the blessings of democracy. Lets make this our triubute to those we honor on Memorial Day.
