I Swine Men Warned On Disease Control Chicago (U.R) Swine produ cers must exert "ever greater efforts" to bring swine diseases "under the most rigid control possible," the American Veteri nary Medical association warns. Surveys show that the nation seems to be making headway in battling some of its most severe swine problei , but no gains have been made in the past year in reducing certain others, the association said. Major diseases reported brought under better control are hog cholera, gastroenteritis, en teritis complex and respiratory diseases. Important diseases for which increases were reported are swine erysipelas, atrophic rhinitis and leptospirosis. "As animal populations con tinue to increase, there is a greater movement of livestock in normal commerce, the prob lems of disease control are bound to grow more difficult," the AVMA said. Gronchi Elected President ot Italy Rome '(U.R) Giovanni Gron chi, 67, speaker of the Chamber of Deputies and a left-wing mem ber of the Christian Democratic party, was elected President of Italy today. Gronchi, a man who wants to bring leftists into the govern ment, won the right to succeed retiring 81-year-old President Luigi Einaudi on the fourth bal lot in the Italian Parliament. He needed only a simple ma jority of 422 of the possible 843 votes to win. On the first three ballots, a two-thirds majority, or at least 562 votes, was necessary. But it has lost much of its earlier splendor- since it does not now appear quite as brilliant and is no longer high in a dark sky. Mercury is now too near the sun for observation. Mars, still in the evening twilight, is the reddish object very low in the west an hour after sunset near the orange star Aldebaran in the Hyades. Aside from the moon, Jupiter excels in bright ness everything else now in the evening sky. Yellow, non- twink ling Saturn rises in the east southeast about an hour after sunset. Let us observe our spring "fixed stars" about 6:30 p.m. standard time. The familiar Big Dipper is now only a little north of overhead and is upside down. The celestial jewels in its ample bowl seem likely to be scattered. A little, west of north and near the horizon where the Dipper was dominant six months ago, the W of Cassiopeia rules the scene. In the northeast the brilliant Vega, principal star in Orpheus' heavenly harp, flashes in splen dor. If horizon obstructions do not interfere, Deneb of lesser brightness can be seen near the north-northeastern horizon. Arcturus Conspicuous Very high in the east-southeast, orange Arcturus, the har binger of spring, is conspicuous. Note the dimmer stars out to ward the left which form the figure of a large kite. The only other bright star in the eastern half of the heavens is blue-white Spica, now somewhat south of southeast, and only fairly high in the heavens. .- A little to the southwest of the zenith Regulus, at the end of the handle of the Sickle, sparkles with blue-white light. Fainter stars making up the rest of the handle and the curved blade of the sickle can easily be traced northward from Regulus. Sirius, the Dog star, is now flashing various colors almost on the horizon in the west-southwest. Much higher and above Sirius, Procyon marks the loca tion of the Little Dog. Red Betelgeuse, the shoulder of Ori on, is also near the sky line and practically due west. Well up in the northwest, yellow Ca pella is dominant. The heavenly twins, Pollux and Castor from left to right, stand side by side high in the west. Low in the sky a little east of due south there is a conspicuous little figure of four stars, none bright, in the form of a distorted square which outline the Crow. First the street was Denby ave. Then it became Paskal ave., and then Denby again. The controversial street came up again for another name change, back to Paskal ave. Jer ry Paskal, a local real estate operator, built homes on the block-long street and changed the name from Denby to Paskal.
